SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

Thanks for the replies regarding dietary restrictions!

So I finished reading the entire thread (whew!) and will be booking my room today for the last week of August. :hyper: I would like to be close to the walkway to the Poly and a pool and be able to view the MK fireworks. I would also like a fresh room, with two sinks if possible. Tall order, I know! Can you give me any tips on what to ask for when booking?

Thank you! I made my reservations online and requested the Magnolia wing. Now...how to pass the time the next five months...

Quick question...my DH has been dragging his feet about making our official reservation and it's driving me mad!! Does he, being the military member eligible for SoG, need to make the reservation? I'm so ready to just pick up the phone and call for him. I know it will make him :furious:, but I need our reservation to be made!!

Yes, you can make the reservation (phone/online). I always make ours. I'm not sure DH even knows how! ;)

I make them for my father and the only thing they ask me is his rank.

Thanks everyone! Turns out he had made the reservation but was just messing with me. He knows how excited I am with this, he couldn't resist picking on me.

My dh and I have reservations for the end of August! (At least that's if he doesn't get sequestered one day a week!!!) Anyway, though we love staying at SOG, we always miss the meal plan. Even though I don't think that we save much money with the meal plan, I love the fact that everything is paid for and all that We need is spending/alcohol/tip money. So what we do is.... We make our dining plans, check out the menus, and buy disney gift cards to cover all of our meals. We buy a certain amount each month (its a bill for us) and then we use them for our meals. My question is, does SOG accept Disney gift cards? My gut says that they don't. But if they did, I would increase the amount of gift cards that we are buying and pay the SOG bill with them also. I just love having everything paid for in advance!!!

Now... Onto praying that they work out the budget issue so that we don't lose 20% of my dh income!!

Have you thought about purchasing some prepaid Visa gift cards to use at SOG? You could then use them at SOG or in the parks, even at home should you have some money left on them :rotfl2:

Just a warning. We cashed come loyatly points in for VISA gift cards to use at SOG for our room bill. Check before you count on doing this because we were told by the issuing bank after I ended bringing them back home with me that travel related vendors, including hotels, and dining will not run the card for the face value. So when I tried to pay $500 with a $500 VISA it was actually running it for $600 because they hedge 20% in case you add tips (or something) and the card was coming up as insufficient for the face value. Kind of embarassing and madening.

Made our reservations for Star Wars weekend! We will begin Orlando using our free AFV Club rental from their current promo, and then move over to SOG for the fri-mon of Star Wars. DH won't be able to stay the whole time, so it will just be DS and I at SOG. I'm excited, every time we have booked in the past we have ended up at the Contemporary, which was great, but I'm excited to enjoy SOG. We will have a car, so I asked for a room near the garage, since it will just be me dragging all our gear in. I don't suppose they have any carts rouse from the garage? One more question, moving from a condo we will have perishables. I know at other Disney resorts they will hold them in the fridge until your room is ready, will the same go at SOG?

W just got back from SoG - love it there. Just be sure that which ever person is military is with you at check. They have bell services that will handle all your luggage. You can pull in, take all your luggage out, park your car. Bell services will deliver it all once you know your number and call them. That's what we did last week. Don't know about the fridge but I know our fridge was not cold when we got to the room as the temp had been turned all the way down. Thankfully we were only dealing with water and juice bags.
Have a wonderful trip.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll leave everything in the cooler until the fridge gets cold! My son is a milk-a-holic, so we can't go anywhere without a gallon. I'm a military spouse, my husband has to report back before we check into SOG - it's fine for me to check in with my spouse ID right? I didn't even think of that when I booked it!

It's fine for you to check in with your ID. Last year I went on a solo vacation and didn't have any trouble at all.

My father is the retired military in our family and doesn't always go to Disney with us and my mom is fine checking in with her military ID (sponsor ID). You should be good to go with yours. :thumbsup2
