Moderate Resort Comparison

Last year, we upgraded from a Value (POP) to a Moderate (Coronado Springs) and fell in love with CSR and vowed never to go back to a value.

We are looking to go September 28 - October 6 this year and it appears that CSR is fully booked (does not look good for FD either).

If CSR is truly booked and we cannot get in, what are others suggestions and opinions on the other resorts in the Moderate level. I've read the unofficial book for each resort, but would like to hear from those who have actually stayed at these resorts.

Thanks!

I have stayed at all of the mods more than once and CSR is my favorite too .

However in the last 2 years I have revisited them all.
CBR is nice because the resort really has that ISLAND feel. I would recommend a preferred room here if you want to use hot tub or eat there. Walk from other side is far. Bed choice king or 2 doubles. Downside rooms are bland but large
Very relaxing lush and beautiful resort.

POR to me feels like Liberty Square at MK. I feel like I stepped back in time! I enjoy the boat to DTD too. I have only stayed in the AB section and enjoy the woodwork. The pool was centrally located so I was fine being in a back corner. I don't eat too many meals at resorts and if I did I would usually get off bus , eat, then walk to room. I think this Foodcourt is large and seating was never a problem.
FQ s very charming! The walk to Riverside isn't too bad either. Some downsides is that there is no sit down eatery, and the pool temp is not as warm as other pools. When I was there March 2012 I walked to POR just for warm water. Also the rooms were gorgeous here but a little feminine.

These 2 have king or 2 queens.

Go to allears.net for videos and pics of these resorts. I would recommend CBR if you want same lushness at a resort and POR if you want a new experience. I also like to leave a park and take a bus to POR/FQ, explore, then take a boat to DTD and from there my bus home. Maybe try that this trip so next time you will know. Remember, the resorts are always way more beautiful in person and the details are always interesting . Have a great trip!

Thanks for the responses.

I think we may eliminate CBR due to the large size of the resort, bus transportation (heard horror stories) and they only have double beds.

I've also read that buses pick up FQ before R...any issues with bus transportation at either of these two resorts?

I loved POFQ, one of my all time fav resorts!

We had no problems with the buses, except one night after a busy night at the parks they drop off at POR first and they have 3 or 4 stops and then to POFQ. A lot of the resorts are like this though so not a big deal.

cswolfpack - is that a NC reference? I'm in NC :thumbsup2

All the mods are nice I think, I've also stayed at them all multiple times. CBR you've ruled out.

POR - if you've got any one who loves princesses with you, I think the Princess rooms at POR are wonderful. I took my very blase 12 year old last summer, who thinks she's too old now, and we stayed in a Royal Guest Room - instantly turned her back into my little girl who was thrilled with all the princess touches. We had a garden view room and I know there are many who will disagree with me but next time I'd book a water view. We were on the edge of a parking lot so I guess technically garden view but I love the ambiance around the water view rooms much more. POR is large, like CSR, I've stayed on both sides and it's personal preference but I think I like the mansions more. They've got the carriage rides and a nice main pool, you really do feel like you are back in time.

POFQ - I don't feel quite as immersed in a theme here but I thought the rooms were great and it's half the size of the other mods - which is really, really, nice. No matter where you are it's a short walk to the food court, bus and pool.

I enjoy the boat ride to DTD a lot, especially pretty at night. One thing though is every time I've ridden from POR it's taken about half an hour to get through the line and get on - maybe because I'm always trying it at night. I think it'd be an advantage to get on the boat at POFQ, ride up to POR and stay on to go to DTD, maybe that's another reason why it takes awhile to load at POR?

Enjoy, they all have pros and cons but are equally pleasing and Disney!

I like POR. Beeeeautiful resort. So pretty. Love the food court and the main pool. I love the fact that there's bike rentals on site, plus a horse/carriage ride. I personally didnt care for POFQ. The smallness didnt appeal to me at all. Food court was too small. Just didnt care for it. But the pool is fun!

just wondering about por and csr, which pool do you disers prefer? i have a 15 year old boy who loves to swim! i was leaning towards csr but por looks more 'disney' to me.

We have stayed at CSR & prefer POFQ. We like the size & boat to DTD. But CSR had better bus service. Have you priced WL? It is kinda of an in between Deluxe & Mod pricewise.

Phew...a very Magical Day...booked our 9-day Disney vacation through AAA this morning and we are all set at CSR for my best friend's family and mine (Sept 28 - Oct 6)...no need to look elsewhere for a resort. :worship:

Now hoping for FD...but not holding my breath.

Hey LadyTrampScamp&Angel...I am in Rochester, NY but I follow NC State in college hoops...hence the name tag.

:thumbsup2 for that! I'm hoping DS might be going there in a couple of years. Enjoy your vacation!

Both POR & CSR are very good....I think CSR exceeds it on all counts though.

CSR has better theming ,. bus service, rooms, QS, & TS,& Main pool. POR is right behind but beats CSR with having the Boat ride to DTD, & their lounge w/ YeeHaw Bob is better.

POR Mansions is where we stayed in. I think it was called Magnolia Bend, just across the main bridge from the pool...Perfect location.

If CSR were booked I would definetely stay here, Now if both were booked than I'd drop back down to a value...Just my honest opinion.

CSR is just as big and we didn't have any problem with the transportation. The double beds are what will likely turn me off to CBR in the future.

CBR is the only moderate I've stayed at, so I can't really comment on the others. We've decided to stay at POFQ for our next trip, because it's smaller.

I had no issues with buses at cbr or its size. With a preferred room it was perfect. I had issues at pofq. The tranporatation there i felt was worse than cbr.

We love POR and are going back in June. They have campfires, fishing, bike rentals, and the boat service to DTD. It's definitely the best value for us because we have three children. My oldest always begs for more time at the resort :)

Thanks DizDaD7...will keep POR in mind for our next Disney vacation. Most likely will check out the place during this vacation to check it out.

CSR is a touch smaller than CBR. And has only 4 bus stops compared to the 7 at CBR, so the rides going to/from the resort are noticeably shorter.

I've stayed at all 4 and would rank them this way:

POR
CSR
POFQ
CBR

I would stay at any of the top 3 again in an heartbeat, but I wouldn't stay at CBR again unless I had my own car and paid for a preferred room location. CBR is just too big, and the food court lacks selection.
