I don't pack my clothes in ziplocks, however I do pack small items like undergarments, socks, tank tops, swim suits, etc in ziplocks. It works well and those items don't wrinkle. I also use ziplocs or cloth bags for assorted small items that tend to get lost in the melee that is my suitcase (cords, snacks, extra rain ponchos, etc).
Pants/tops just get packed normal.
I am intriqued by the "thought" of packing cubes but in the end I prefer the ziplocks, and they are much cheaper. I've reused my ziplocks a number of times and they hold up fine. Heck I even use generics.
I like that it's easier to pack and keep track of the small stuff (I rarely use drawers for clothes and the suitcase becomes my staging area for small items so the ziplock keeps them organized). I hang my actual clothes so I just don't see the need to bag up large items.
Also the ziplocks are see through. Packit cubes are not. You can smoosh air out of the ziplocs. Ziplocks are fairly water tights. I've had a suitcase left on the tarmac in a rainstorm. NOT pretty.
Ugh to the suitcase in the rainstorm.
I researched packing cubes two years ago when people were talking about them on a thread. They were so darn expensive. Well, it probably wouldn't be too bad for just my husband and I, but for my family of 7, well...you get the point.
I purchased some 2.5 gallon bags yesterday just for kicks and giggles b/c I have never used them. I pulled them out today and packed some outfits in them. They are so nice! I am still using the gallon ones as well for certain things, but I could fit 2 outfits in each one, and they lay so nice and flat! I also put our beach towels in two separate bags so we can take them to the water parks and have a bag to put our wet items in so they don't soak through the bag.
Makes a little more sense...I imagined all these adults pulling out a ziploc bag marked Tuesday!
I used to use a couple of packing cubes, but now I have an ebags suitcase. There are so many compartments, cubes aren't necessary.
I think some parents of small children do that. I have read about it, but I am not someone who knows what they are going to feel like wearing on any given day. We match a lot, so I will just shout out to our extended family group of 12 what the next day's shirt will be. "Tomorrow is Mickey Head tie dye!"
My kids usually have everything thrown all over the place in their room every trip, so it will be very strange for me to pack up for just hubby and I this time. I swear, if I labeled the bags for each individual day I would be losing my mind by the second day. They would have it all mixed up. So, for the most part I will put one pair of shorts with about 3 shirts in a bag that match that pair of shorts so I can have some freedom with my choices.
Last trip I found one pair of shorts to be really comfy, so I ended up wearing them for most of the trip. Several of my pants were falling off by the end of the 11th day as I had lost so much weight! Had I picked out my outfits by day while packing, I would have been really bugged and OCD about it.
Sounds like you found an awesome suitcase. I just found a hard shell suitcase at Target that runs anywhere from $100-$180 I think and I paid $29.99!!! I am so excited!
Sorry if this was a bit strange, but it is waaaaaaay past when I needed to go to bed.
