Can I add a dining plan with a different credit card?

My husband is staying in Disneyworld for a conference, so we're tagging along. The hotel will be paid with a business credit card. Can I add a dining plan on a different card?

Except for a few exceptions (business conferences not being one of them), the dining plan has to be a part of a package that includes room and tickets. If he has to book his own room for the conference, I'd ask when making that reservation if there is way to split the cost of the package, but I'm thinking they won't know how to do it.

I don't know of a way to specify what the payment is for but you can split tender.

You could pay for part of it with the business card & the rest with a personal card.

While you can use different cards to pay, the problem will be the reservationist will not have a break down of how much the hotel is apart from the rest of it. You, however, could figure it out on your own by checking out prices on the WDW website. Make a reservation for the hotel by itself and note the price. Then do a package reservation with what you want, note the difference. Then you could ask the reservationist to put X amount on the business card and X amount on the other.

Thanks for the quick replies! Now, the problem is that the original hotel booking will very likely be made by a travel agency, not us. I thought I could call the hotel afterwards and add the dining plan + tickets to that reservation on our card, but I don't know if it's just wishful thinking. I should've been clearer on my original post.

I fear it is wishful thinking. You can't just add the tickets and dining plan to a room only reservation - which his will be. When people say they do that, what actually happens in the background is that the original reservation for room only is cancelled and a new package reservation is created. For those folks it seems like they are adding and it works fine, but in your case I don't know if you want to do that.

1) TrustTheScupper.
2) This is done all the time.
3) Payments can be split in just this manner.
. . . buy the hotel room on a card
. . . call in afterward and charge dining/tickets to another card
. . . the ressie is changed from room-only to a package
. . . but, it does work
4) But, the glitch is
. . . the dining plan will show on the "folio" (READ: hotel bill)
. . . the payments to/for each card will also show
. . . since they are a "package", they can't be split off from the bill


NOTE: I have gone to Disney on several "conferences" and used
corporate cards, then charged and paid personal charges. Many
companies know there are personal or non-allowed charges, and as
long as they are repaid, there is no fowl. Just put a note on the hotel
bill showing personal charges so the Accounting Dept doesn't go ballistic.
Or, do as you plan, and attach a note on the hotel bill circling the dining
plan and tickets and note they were paid by personal card.

It will show on the bill as a package with tickets and dining included in the charge. But you can split the payment however you want.
What I wasn't sure about was if a conference booking could be converted to a package.

If your reservation is being made as part of a group reservation for a conference, of the type that usually comes with a discount and is made on behalf of the conference by a travel agent or third party, you won't be able to get a dining plan at all. These types of reservations are not packages. They are room-only reservations.

To get a dining plan, except for a few very narrow exceptions (conferences are not one of them), you must be booking a regular package reservation including at least 1 day tickets through the Walt Disney Travel Company, or have a travel agent book it through WDTC on your behalf. Conference bookings aren't the right type of reservation. Unless the travel agency used by the conference is willing to book a regular package for you or change your reservation to a package, in which case you would probably forfeit any conference-related room discount. If the business is paying for the room, they may be more amenable to pay for the discounted room.

If you book through a travel agency, the travel agency must be the one to make changes to the reservation. You are not considered the owner of that reservation - the travel agency is. So while you could split the cost between cards if you are able to book a package reservation, you would need to do it through the travel agency (if your reservation is eligible for DDP in the first place).

You could bypass the travel agency and book the package yourself but then I don't know whether your husband's business would pay for the room portion. Likely they aren't interested in paying for park tickets either.

So what you need to do is either you or your husband contact the travel agency and find out exactly what kind of booking this will be, and if it's not a package, if he has to stick to that booking to get the business to pay for the room.
