Do you wear glasses? What you should know about the Aquaduck

So, many of us wear glasses...
to see...
not to look cool, but to actually SEE things in life.

Well, many of us also happen to have prescription sunglasses, as the sun is very bright and sunglasses make it more comfortable.

Do NOT try to wear your prescription sunglasses on the Aquaduck. The CM at the bottom will tell you that you aren't allowed to wear any glasses on the Aquaduck. Well, at that point, I may as well not ride, as I will probably fall going UP the stairs to it, as I can't see a darn thing.

After visiting Guest Services, here is what I learned:
You aren't allowed to wear SUNGLASSES on the Aquaduck. BUT, if you wear your regular, clear lenses on your face, you ARE indeed allowed to wear them on the Aquaduck. It would be very nice if the CM at the bottom of the duck knew this rule, and told the people.

So, hopefully this helps someone who, like me, would not see anything on the duck without their glasses.

Thanks for the information. I wear glasses/contact lenses, and I honestly can't remember if I wore my contacts the time I rode or my glasses. You are right, the CM should have been more informative.

And consistent... I wore sunglasses both times I rode last year with nary a peep!

Me too! DH as well! Is that new? We are both blind without our glasses I'm sure we both wore them when we rode it last year...

I actually rode one time with the sunglasses AND a sunhat! Which is why the next time I went (a different ship), I was so frustrated! Seriously, the CMs need to be consistent.

I wear prescription sunglasses, all year long because my eyes are very sensitive to light. I wish they'd let us wear prescription sunglasses on the AquaDuck. I'm not sailing on the Fantasy until next year so I hope they consider changing this rule before then.

4 weeks ago I rode the 'Duck many, many times with my prescription glasses, never a word from anyone. I never even gave it a second thought. I don't think it's an issue.

i don't suppose you happened to ask about the transitions lenses? that's what my hubby has so he has no "clear" lenses anymore.

maybe he'll just hide them in his suit until he passes the "guard" and then put them back on. by the time he sees the next guard in the tunnel they should be clear again.

kind of an odd rule in general. why don't they just require glasses to be secured with strap and then it shouldn't matter if they're prescription or not. do they think it's really that dark in the tunnel that people with sunglasses on become blind and safety hazzard? just weird.

The rule about glasses/sunglasses pertains to anything else not attached to your person (flip flops, cameras, etc.). Essentially, they do not want you to drop ANYTHING in the AquaDuck. Yes it's generally a smooth ride and chance of tipping over is slim-to-none, but I suppose it's a catch-all so the CMs don't have to police exactly what anyone is carrying and whether or not it might drop off the raft. The ride has to close and a CM walk the whole route if a guest happens to drop something. Then there's also the small risk of damage to the ride or mechanisms if something drops off the raft and gets caught, but I think it's primarily to keep the ride open and moving.

I think I rode without my glasses - it would be nice if they could be consistent on the rule. Problem is, sometimes people get in line and the CM either isn't at the bottom of the stairs or is otherwise occupied (with another guest) and not paying attention.

I was on the Feb 2-9 cruise and I wore my prescription sunglasses on 5 different occasions. I would also not have a good time without my glasses.

We were told that it was to prevent any potential loose articles from scratching the inside of the tube.

I wore prescription sunglasses to ride the Aquaduck on the Dream in January 2013.

And I wasn't the only one in line wearing them.

I would be fine without them, but they didn't tell me to leave them in the cubby with the shoes so I just wore them.

I wore my sunglasses on the Aquaduck this past February and last year. The only thing they told me is that I have to "wear" them...not on my head holding my hair back and not tucked in my bathing suit. DH & DS wore theirs also...

I'm positive I wore mine, too. They never left my face or head the entire time I was on the ship except for showering, sleeping, etc. I would have remembered if I was asked to take them off.

right, i totally get that, but they have straps to secure glasses to your head. if they are concerned about fly off, then just require all glasses to be strapped to your head. rather than the arbitrary "clear glasses ok, sun glasses not" rule. which is why i consider it a weird rule.

Regarding transition lenses - my daughter has those - and when she was told she had to remove her sunglasses (as I did, mine), all I had to say was "they're prescription" and the CM allowed it.

Seriously - she's blind as a bat. It's more of a safety issue for her to not be able to see the stairs!

I thought that I remembered wearing flip-flops and then just sitting on them. I don't know what we did with DD's glasses though.

I will wear my sandals to the top next cruise also and sit on them. We burned the bottom of our feet walking up the steps one morning while in port.
