Yesterday I opened a savings account for our WDW trip.

All of my eBay money and any other extra bits are now going into it.

I was going to put a ticker in my signature but it's very busy down there already, so thought I'd start a thread and if anyone else is starting saving we can all keep track of our progress together.

This savings is for our fligths and accomodation at the moment.

Tickets and spending money will probably be paid for in bigger chunks once we're closer.

I like your idea :) It's always more fun and easier to stick to a plan when you're doing it with others :thumbsup2

What did you have in mind for the thread? Are we all just going to keep running updates on our progress or were you thinking of something else?

we made a big paper chart !! its stuck on the side of the fridge and the kids take turns to count and mark it up when ever we add new money

i get paid cash so have a big non opening tin and just shove my wage in that each week

we then have a seperate bank account with a dd going in to each month !!this only has about £200 at the moment as we emptied at at xmas and paid the deposit

i love the chart and so do the kids we have things marked out on one side eg price of seaworld ticket , disney ticket etc

There is already a similar thread running, started by diddldonna, geared towards saving spending money.

I like the idea of a chart - that way kids will see the benefits of the small sacrifices we make, plus they will understand the concept of saving for something. I think I might do something similar.

If only I could get hold of one of those old Blue Peter appeals props.:rotfl:

Thanks Wilma,

I didn't know if my savings would count on there as it's not my spending money?

Also, this isn't a tin it's an account, so I felt like I was breaking the rules of the 'game' a little, sort of saw this as more of a big savings thing. When we do crack open the terramundi I'll post on there though as that will be spending money. :)

Yeah I thought maybe we could all keep a graphical chart/ticker of what we're saving (online the only ticker I could find was at tickerfactory.com but there are some fundraising thermometers that might work well - like the Blue Peter props Joolz if your kids would be happy to have an online imagine to look at)

Here are some: http://www.fundraiserinsight.org/thermometer/

And then post our progress whenever we feel like it. :)

Bex - I'd love to see a photo of your chart!! :)

I'm just doing mine in % as it's a very large sum I'm aiming to save, and everybodies holidays cost different, so I thought % was more relevant and also is an easier way to see how far I've gone - have left to go.

yes the kids are more aware of what we spend on and how much things cost , dh suggested a takeaway at the weekend and our 5 year old said we couldnt have one coz of the budget

our son is 7 its his job to do the sums he will see what we have already then add on the new money we are adding , i set the chart out in multiples of 10 so its pretty easy for him but still good practice

eventually when i can be bothered to go to town i do take the tin i put my wage in and add it to the bank account but while ever i dont take it to teh bank i save £4 on bus fare :)

I have set myself little targets, I am saving one persons flights at a time right now, so far I have 2 saved for, only need 3 more!!! Then I will move onto saving for accommodation and then each persons park tickets. We are hoping to go Oct 2014 or possible summer 2014 depending on a few things. Hopefully by the time the flights are released I will have saved even for flights and a good chunk of our accommodation as well.

I have a savings account with £4000 in it - it's for emergencies but I have decided that going to Disney is an emergency.;) I want to save a total of £8000, so I am already half way there. I am only able to afford £100 per month, so I should have another £2400 by Jan 2015, (barring any emergencies) which is when I will be able to book. I am also saving £2 coins which I hope will make up some of the shortfall. I will then have a further 18months to save before we go, which will (hopefully) make my target easy to achieve.:thumbsup2

This is a really good idea. We want to do another med cruise next year but its ridiculously expensive. Having a chart we can see everyday will probably encourage us to save rather than me going shopping (again) or DH insisting we get another takeout.

I want to do this but we're going in exactly 2 months and only have £50 each left to save ^_^.

We saved about £600 a month between us since June last year and had to give up spending money on pretty much anything we wanted but it will definitely be worth it! I was so worried we wouldn't save enough that I wrote about 20 lists a week adding up how much we still needed haha

I have money alllll over the place at the moment for our trip.... in the attic, in my savings account, in DW's ISA..... and it's all tracked on an excel spreadsheet so I know what I've got and how much more to go for a 'minimum' and 'ideal' - that is to say, i can go with this much but i'd love to go with THIS much lol

Just had a pay rise so i can put about an extra £25-30 a week away which is great!! Soon adds up!

Cool, I didn't even know you could make savings tickers :goodvibes I like it, it'll sure keep the motivation up. And to see that we've saved 5,8% of the total amount (for both wedding that is in Norway in june 2014 and Disneymoon that is in november 2014) already is awesome! We haven't really started saving properly yet, so I've a good feeling about this.

Mine goes in the savings account but I have a two line spread sheet for that account. Savings and Disney savings! Disney savings are paraded on the fridge where the kids also track their saved spending money. Deal is I double whatever they save so how much they have is kind of down to them. Currently my 11 year old DD is whipping her older brother's ***!! I save spending money in cash and drop it in a different account. Still have 1k to put into this. As that's cash based I don't think it's for this thread. So... Paid for flights outright from the current account when I booked them so they are done, paid for the car hire outright from the current account when I booked it so that's done, paid for Discovery Cove plus Sea World and Aquatica the same way when I booked them so that's also dealt with leaving 3,945 for hotel, DDP upgrade and 14 day tickets. My saving line for that is at 2k so 2k left to go..... Plus about £200 for the airport hotel but that's less than two weeks supermarket food money during a period when we are away for 16 days so I'll probably just pay that when we check out from my current account. If I've saved it I'm quids in when we get home so I will try to!!!

I don't keep track of mine anywhere exciting just in my Filofax, however I know I have paid off £825 of my August trip, which is half way! I also have £400 saved for spending money :D

I have also paid my £125 deposit for DLRP in October this year and also paid off £100 which is around a quarter :D

On top of that I have saved £350 towards our October 2014 WDW trip which is around one third! and we haven't even booked that yet! :D

All of this while also saving for a deposit for a house! I must be insane haha

We have a savings account. We put any spare money in it. Hope to have all our flights saved up by the end of the year. I have budgeted £2000 for flights but hope they are a few hundred cheaper. We haven't agreed on accommodation yet as i want to stay at Disney but my 11 year old daughter and partner want a villa. I want my little girl to get to stay at Akl like her big sister did.

Great to see so many of us all saving. :)

I had a couple more paypal payments overnight so am now up to 1.7% :)

Got a bit of money today , claimed ppi, so now I have enough for all 5 of our flights and all our disney tickets. Just got accommodation and spends to go now :banana: I reckon I'm about 50% of my way there :woohoo:
