Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

i am considering running this, but do have a question about transportation.

can my family not park at HS for the party? we were going to stay at AoA for our long weekend trip, which isn't a host resort. so, does that mean we'd have to either park at WWoS and bus to/from HS? or can they park at HS and we can go back to the resort from there (after the party)?

also, can you upgrade the discounted tickets? for example, i'd want to upgrade mine and my kids' tickets to APs. i am fine with only getting the discounted price for them, but do need to upgrade them.

thanks!

Last year there were a little over 10,000. I hope disney keeps it the same, but they will probably up the capacity
:thumbsup2 Princess was entirely TOO many people. I'm really looking forward to a smaller TOT, so I'm crossing my fingers...

The traditional thought is to schedule the bulk of your vacation after the race. That will help assure that you are not going into the race on tired legs or with a dehydrated body.
Having just done the opposite for Princess, ITA with this thinking. I live down here and can hit the parks another time, so I opted out of an awful lot of fun things my group of fellow racers did - park time, meals out, etc. I know my body can't handle all that and run a strong race. Had we had vacation time afterward, I'd have been all in.

Last year, there as no option to park at DHS. I don't really know what they'd do if you parked there early and left your car... I'd fear it being towed. At the very least, you wouldn't have tram transport back to it.

I registered tonight woohoo. I am super excited first race ever and I am going solo a bit unsure my cousin would like to join me but we will see. Hope there is a meet up! Can wait to cross the finishline. For those that ran last year were there hills a lot of them wondering how I should train?

I didn't run the ToT race last year but did do the full Disney marathon which did go through the same streets as the ToT race.Obviously with Florida being very flat there aren't many real hills around, the biggest hills you'll see are a couple bridges on Osceola Parkway between Animal Kingdom and WWoS.I plan to run this race in October and the one thing I would tell you to expect are hot temperatures, the first cool fronts don't usually come around until mid October so early October is usually just as hot as September,90's in the day and lows in the 77-83 range.

In general, no. That doesn't mean that if one decides to take a nap they would not be asked to move on or hop a van... Recently, the 5k courses have reamined open for just over an hour after the last wave starts - allowing plenty of time to stop and take in the scenes.

If the course remains the same – remember it is cross country so footing varies from concrete to grass to graveled road to dirt.

Thank you for the information.

We registered for the TOT 10 Miler while we were at the Princess Expo this past weekend. Now, I'm reconcidering and wish I had waited. The Princess Half was WAY overcrowded and not fun. I hope Rundisney will concider limiting the amount of partipants in all events.

I completely agree that Princess was way too crowded. TOT was A LOT smaller last year, in fact, I never got bottlenecked except for the dirt path at WWOS. Hopefully runDisney keeps the size of TOT the same.

Last year final race instructions said that if you parked at DHS, you risked your car being towed. They really wanted to keep the parking lots cleared for the corrals, runDisney busses, etc. You can park at WWOS and they will shuttle you from/to DHS. We ended up parking at a host resort for dinner, and taking the bus to/from there at the end of the night.

Define "hill"... ;) West-Central Floridian here - we don't have hills like up north (I'm originally from NY), so I expect you'll find it pretty flat. What we do have on the course is a cloverleaf overpass; it's not all that steep so far as going up, but our roadways are steeply canted to allow for stormwater runoff. That comes as a surprise for most non-Florida folks.

::yes:: ^ This, exactly. A cool front is possible, but not probable.

hi everyone, it's been awhile since i have been on this board.. i have done a few races in WDW, but not in the last couple years.. This year i am planning on my first mom/daughter trip alone for the october 5k. My dd is 12 and has done one previous disney 5k.

My question as i wait for my vaca. time approval at work is this:
Do you get the 40% off park tickets if you only do the 5k vs the 10 miler?

And, for those who have booked hotel with the discount, what are you getting for prices and how many nights will they allow you to use that discount to book?

thanks so much, i am so looking forward to this trip, we have been to disney lots of times but this is my first time planning it solo and being able to financially support myself and dd to go on our own! :)

Congrats! Way to celebrate an awesome accomplishment!

I think it is like 5 nights or something. I tried to book AsMu for 7 nights and was told I had a night or two too many. I gave up and just called the regular reservation line. I think it was only a $7/night difference (for Value). Now I am contemplating a split stay so might call back and book three nights at CBR. For the park tickets only the first three days are at 40%, the rest are at regular price. I am waiting to see id I get FD PIN before I buy park tickets... So complicated, I know!! :confused3

I too want to congratulate you on your achievement. :cheer2: I know what it's like. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone
If we stay at the Boardwalk is there anything stopping us from simply walking along the lake to the start?
I don't see the point in walking to the Beach Club to get the bus but wondered if they keep the walkway open as usual to DHS.

From the FAQ on the event website:

If I'm staying at an Epcot® resort, can I walk to Disney's Hollywood Studios to reach the start line?

If staying at the Boardwalk Resort, or the Yacht Club Resort and Beach Club Resort, you can walk to the start at Disney's Hollywood Studios and then back following the Disney Villains Hollywood Bash. The Friendship Boats will also be running to and from Disney's Hollywood Studios for guests staying at an Epcot® Resort.

Thank you! I am prob. only looking at 5 nights, so maybe it will work.. and i would need 4 day tickets, so i will have to price it out. I just wasnt sure if they were offering ticket discounts to the 5k people or what.. i will have to price it all out for my best deal.. i would love to do CBR, but budget may dictate a value.. its all ok,as long as i am there!! Hoping for a MNSSHP night too.. do u think theywill have one that week? I'd rather do that then the villan party...

If we stay at the wilderness lodge, will I have bus transportation to/from the race?

I called the run Disney reservations today. The person I spoke with told me the Wilderness Lodge was a host hotel(even though I didn't see it listed). She could only give me a price for Port Orleans Riverside. What's the deal? Have they not released all the rooms yet??

I originally called and booked a room at POFQ a few days after registration opened, and I registered. At that time, I asked for price quotes for BC and POFQ, and ended up booking with POFQ (but didn't put down a deposit). I called a few days later, because I decided to change to BC and was told that BC and YC were now fully booked. :(

I tried again a few days later, and again was told BC and YC fully booked.

Finally I called again yesterday, as I was getting close to the day I had to put a deposit down on POFQ reservation, and the CM told me that BC and YC SOLD OUT on the first day after registration. He said that even if people call and cancel BC and YC now, that those rooms probably would not be put back into circulation for the race discount. :(

So I went ahead and put my deposit down on POFQ.

Anyone else hear anything similar? I'm really surprised that the rooms are fully booked this far in advance--but it's my first Disney race, so maybe that's typical?

I called yesterday and had a similar experience... only with a value. For the dates I was looking at only one resort had availability (POFQ) Pop had sold out for some of the dates I was looking at.

Hi everyone! DH and I registered for TOT tonight so I thought I would join in this thread! This will be my second RunDisney event and hubby's first; we are super excited to run it together!

Does anyone know why there aren't as many host resorts for this race vs Princess this year??

Time to begin thinking about costume ideas woohoo!!
