Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

I havent seen any announcement from Run Disney that the event has sold out yet (just double checked their Twitter). Have you tried registering online?

OMG! I nearly had a panic attack!!! I don't even seen a "this full" bar on the site... and you can definitely still register.

Definitely just realized I posted this in the wrong thread! It was supposed to be in the Everest thread...sorry guys!!!

I'm In! Registered yesterday, this is my first 10 Miler, I did the WDW marathon in 2012 and the first TOT 5.k/13k a few years back. Very excited to be with you all.

:yay:

Jack

Still so many questions...

For people who have run this (or other Disney races) before, do you typically incorporate it into full-scale Disney vacation? If so, how do you plan around it? I guess I mean, do you start or end the vacation with the race, or do you put the race somewhere in the middle? Which way works out best for you?

Also, do you really have to pick up your bib at the Expo?? The Expo hours seem so horribly inconvenient. There's no other way to get your bib?

Also, also... are there any sort of meet-ups planned? I hope to be able to drag at least one person to Disney with me for this but I'll quite probably end up alone.

Also, also, also... one of the RunDisney web sites linked me to GET Travel. Is there any advantage to booking through them? Are the discounts they offer any different/better than the ones that Disney offers directly?

I'll try to help with some of the above. I've done it both ways - ran Princess at the beginning of my vacation and Wine and Dine at the end. Honestly, I preferred running at the beginning as I had to be aware of what I ate until the race for Wine and Dine. Doing that during the Food and Wine Festival can be a bit tough especially when a lot of my favorite foods do not make the best running fuel.

You do have to pick up your bib at the Expo - I've found the hours pretty reasonable, we'll just do it late Friday or Saturday during our "rest day". It's pretty fun and if you're patient can find some free goodies.

As we get closer people will start posting where they're staying, so I'm sure you can meet up with us. I ran Wine and Dine alone and have to admit I prefer having friends to be silly with :) Can't wait - keeping running all!

Went out yesterday for my first long run (8 miles) since the WDW 1/2 marathon in January. Not feeling too bad today. The back of my left knee is a little sore. Not sure what is going on. Maybe it was the zumba after the run?

I'm thinking about attempting my first triathlon in June so I'm starting to train for that. Has anyone else done any tri's that can give me some advise?

Have a great day everyone! :cheer2::cheer2:

I am registered for the ToT 10miler! I ran it last year and plan on being legacy for this race!

Another solo traveler here...just signed up for the ToT 10 miler. This is my first Disney race and I'm wicked excited.

I was really not comfortable with the idea of traveling solo for this race, but all of the other solo travelers here have made me more comfortable and even excited about the idea of traveling solo...I can't wait!

I know what you mean. I was a bit nervous about doing this solo too, but I am feeling more and more comfortable with it each day after reading so many posts from other solos.

I registered for this the other day and I am SUPER excited. :cool1: I cannot wait to run this! I do have a couple of questions, though, if you all would be willing to help me out.
1. What will the weather be like for a night run in Florida in October?
2. I am going by myself, will probably stay at one of the host resorts. What would you all consider the absolute cheapest price I can get at a value resort to be? Right now, it looks like they're running around $122/night.

Thanks so much for your help!

A little more precisely, the AVERAGE temps for the first week of October are a high in the mid 80’s and a low around 70. That would mean a 10 pm temperature in the mid 70’s on average. Of course these are averages and temperatures could vary +/- 10F

The traditional thought is to schedule the bulk of your vacation after the race. That will help assure that you are not going into the race on tired legs or with a dehydrated body. Though for a 10 miler, I will say that the rule of thumb is not as critical as it would be for a longer race. I would let your personal schedule dictate when you take the vacation for this race. If you are there early, make sure you stay hydrated prior to the race.

Yes, one must attend the expo to get their bib. Think of it as a shopping trip and a way to stay out of the sun for a couple hours.

Make your reservations through CRO (407 WDW Disney). They will be able to help you with the getting discounted room rates, if they are out in early October. The sports folks will generally not be able to meet the lowest published rates. NOTE – not all resorts serve the race so make sure you reserve a room at a Host resort.

I am signed up for both the 5k and the 10 mile. I have a question about the 5k since I have never done them, I have always done the halfs. My plan on the 5k is to take it easy, have fun, and stop at all the characters greets. Do they sweep on the 5k's? I always feel like I have to pick and choose on the halfs for the characters that I want to just have fun for one race.

We registered for the TOT 10 Miler while we were at the Princess Expo this past weekend. Now, I'm reconcidering and wish I had waited. The Princess Half was WAY overcrowded and not fun. I hope Rundisney will concider limiting the amount of partipants in all events.

In general, no. That doesn't mean that if one decides to take a nap they would not be asked to move on or hop a van... Recently, the 5k courses have reamined open for just over an hour after the last wave starts - allowing plenty of time to stop and take in the scenes.

If the course remains the same – remember it is cross country so footing varies from concrete to grass to graveled road to dirt.
