Anyone just back from the Winter Wonderland trip? I'd love to get some feedback on how it was. We are considering this trip for next Christmas

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Winter Wonderland version of that tour is a shorter one only offered in December....

If you're thinking next summer, you might be looking at the regular Wyoming trip.

We are booked for the day after Christmas: Me, DH, DS (will be 6).

We are so excited and would love to hear anything about the trip. We are doing Ireland this summer and did Greece last summer but don't know much about this trip (other than it looks amazing). Would love to hear anyone else's experiences.

I'm a little confused by the date on your post. "Booked for 5/25-30". Are you booked for the 12/26 - 30, 2013 trip?

You're the first person I've heard of who signed up for this trip. Please be sure & report back after you've gone! :thumbsup2

Sayhello

Yes, I meant 12/26-30. Who knows where my brain was...We are doing a pre- and a few post- days, too so I think that's where the 25th came from but the 5---no idea!:confused3

Just bumping this thread again - would really like to hear from anyone who went on this adventure last year. Trip report? We have been considering this trip for some time, but wanted to hear what folks thought.

We've been tracking this trip since first announced and almost booked it for this past holiday season when it was first announced. So with no trip reports (ok I'm spoiled) I finally broke down and called in to ABD, twice. They are so friendly and peppy. We were leaning very heavily to the first of the three weeks this is offered -over Christmas. We were advised they may cancel this one. The other two weeks look to be a go, however. Was pleased to hear these trips max out at 24 guests. Both trips have 5 kids on them. Our twins will be 14 (Our three previous trips the kids were all kid rate...now the adult rate for all!)

We are looking at this a bit harder now...and would like to do a pre/post day.

My wife, on the other hand, thinks we are made of money and wants to do the Equador Galapogos which looks to be a great trip, but $2600+ each more...and the trip reports on the Disboards made up her mind...

I'll keep the group posted as we find out more details.

Grifdog,

As I said earlier, we are on the 12/26 trip. My TA said it was about 60% full a month or so ago. I have already booked our flights because we were using FF miles and that's a tough time to get an award ticket! We are flying in on 12/25 and leaving 1/1. We are very excited about the trip but don't know much either. We have not been able to book pre- or post-nights with ABD yet but they think that info will be available soon.

I also would love to hear from anyone that's been on the trip or been to Yellowstone during that time of year.

My son is five (will be six at the time of the trip). This will be his 3rd ABD (after Ireland this summer; we also did Greece). We are really excited about this one because we almost never get snow in South Texas. Post if you decide to book (especially on our trip!).

acndis - sorry not able to help you out with your question but wanted to ask about your Greece experience with your son. My daughter will turn 5 this summer and I was wondering if that's too young. Although we'll probably wait until next year. My other daughter is 10 and son 8 which I think are good ages for this trip and don't want to wait too long for them, I want be sure my youngest will be able to experience and enjoy the trip as well.

Kim,

I think the trip is perfect for a young child. The only things my son did not do was the donkey ride, the jump into the Aegean (he was not a strong enough swimmer then) and he was not allowed to hold a paddle on the kayak (this caused some brief tears but he enjoyed the ride anyway). He loved all the museums and the mythology and of course, the guides were great with him. The volcano walk was long and a bit hot but he did the whole thing.

I would recommend the trip for that age!

Well we are taking our fourth ABD trip. We will get to do what we originally wanted-the trip over Christmas to Yellowstone. We had bugged those wonderful vacationistas about details on this trip as we were really struggling with logistics -very hard to get flights from the east coast to Jackson hole Wyoming within the timeframes of this trip without some per and post days. They finally called us back with the information that these would be available.

So we kept asking about the over Christmas trip we were told may not go. It's still on the website, and so today we booked! What a treat to spend Christmas Eve in Jackson Hole after a full day of dog sledding and lounging in the snow and a 110 degree hot spring pool! Christmas Day is our entrance to Yellowstone. I cannot think of a better gift!

Thirty years ago I came here with friends hiking for two months through this area and the wind river to decide if I really wanted to get married and settle down. The answer was yes, and we had our 25th wedding anniversary last year. Our son is 24 and we have twin 14 year old girls. As I was cleaning up the attic last month I found my notes from that trip 30 years ago-with the note saying if I ever did any traveling, the one thing I wanted to do was to come back here in winter. What a great eye opener reminder that was. So here we go! My original bucket list.

And the girls are excited for a winter trip. We are looking at snowmobiling afterwards with a sleigh ride into the wildlife preserve. Now how to get my snowshoes into a Disney size suitcase?

Wonderful, Grifdog22!! :thumbsup2 I hope you have a SPECTACULAR trip!!!

Grifdog,

So glad you booked! If I am understanding correctly, it looks like you are on the trip that departs before ours does. If so, I am sorry we'll miss you.

However, if you do plan a day in the Tetons, let me know. I am still mulling that over and would love to hear if you select a tour company for that.

We are really looking forward to this trip!
