Basics of renting

You have to figure out which resorts you would like to stay at, its good to have a few picked out in case the one you really want is not available. Then look on the rent/trade thread for someone who has enough points to cover your trip. Contact them and they will check to see what available. The point owner will need your name/address/phone # and I think DOB - not sure on that one.

When I rent my points out I always only accept Paypal for the payment.

Members can book 11 months in advance at their home resort and 7 months at the other DVC resorts. So, it is better if you know when you want to take a vacation well in advance.

If you search for DVC point charts, you can calculate how many points your vacation will cost. You can rent from a private owner (see rent/trade board) for around $11-$12 per point. You can also rent from a broker for around $15 per point. So, you can estimate how much your vacation will cost.

Some things to keep in mind are that you have to be sure of the dates because most owners won't accept cancelations. Also, the owner is always in control of the reservation. So, you need to go through them if you want requests, make changes, add dinning plan. The reservation is through DVC member services and they will only speak to owners.

Have never rented a DVC room from someone but like the idea. How does this work?

Check out the sticky threads at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board. They should give you all the details.
