Winter Storm "Q"

About an hour from you in Bloomington. Looks about the same. But I will believe the snow when I see it. Last time they said 2-4" and we barely got a dusting. Kids are really wanting some snow!!!! (And so am I!!! Then it can be 50 degrees two days later!)

Will be glad to send you some of our leftover snow from our Blizzard Nemo (27inches in one storm). Mounds of snow are still hanging around...waiting for the expected foot from "Q" to join it. :rolleyes1

Oh no. I hope you have a generator.

Between being without power with ice storms and hurricanes, having a generator is the *best* insurance we've ever had ;) Have our home wired to just flip a switch, then plug the generator in and have set number of lights, outlets, etc. Also powers our fridge, freezer, and well.

We've been without power so many times that we got tired of losing all our refrigerated stuff, and not having water. Now, at least we don't have those issues to worry about.

In-laws live in KCK and they have already gotten 10" of snow today. That seems so crazy for me as we are in shorts down here. Stay safe and warm, everyone.

My BIL finally had his home wired that way after that deracho we had last year. Our neighbor let us run a line over to his generator so we wouldn't lose everything in our fridge.

South part of metro kansas city, on kansas side.

12 inches so far. Got an automated call from the city telling everyone to stay home and off the streets unless an emergency. Me, I am staying in where it is warm!

DH got stuck coming home from work about 1 mile from home and took him 4 hours to get out. Ended up parking car in parking lot of grocery store and getting a ride home as our car wouldn't not clear the snow on the street where we live. Still not plowed.

I had to shovel a path for our dachshund to be able to go to the bathroom.

12"? My in-laws only said 10". Stay warm. That sounds miserable.

Well it's here. Sleet for about 5 minutes, and now snow is falling at a pretty good rate. The roads are covered, and since I have to go to work at 6, I'm hoping they pre-treated.

I closed the office at 4 when I found out several highways were closed. Roads not cleared, but not slick. Did struggle in my driveway even with 4wd and good tires. 5-6" of white stuff in the driveway, with a lot of it ice apparently. Power back on though :thumbsup2

Tractor wouldn't start, so I have to wait to blade the driveway. Got the charger on it. School is already called for tomorrow.

Still snowing hard here but they lowered the total to 6-8". It is supposed to stop around midnight. Now it's the big wait until the schools decide what to do. I'm hoping they make a decision tonight but I'm afraid they'll wait til morning to see if we end up on the low end of the total.

Here in Champaign-Urbana, we're expecting 2-4 inches and some ice. It's supposed to begin sometime this afternoon and continue into the night, but right now it's just cloudy and rather ominous looking.

What's it like where you are?

We had sleet balls, snow, more sleet, more snow, then more sleet followed up with a dash of freezing rain.

DD took the ruler outside and it measured 3".

We ended up getting nearly 4 inches with a layer of ice on top. I woke DH extra early to shovel, and he doesn't think it's necessary. :confused3 I'm not sure why he doesn't. I guess I'll just get out there myself and do it, since I KNOW it needs it.

Sigh, men.

So how much snow/ice did everyone get?

We got barely enough ice to say there was any. The roads were mostly fine this morning according to my husband. Most of our schools were only on a short delay. It's already nearing 50 here and everything we did have is already long melted.

We got ~7" total snow/sleet at our house ~ an hour West of STL. Co-worker who lives just a few miles from me got just 3". There's an elevation change about a mile from my house and every time it snows, there's a line where everyone on one side always gets a lot more than those on the other side. Probably 15 or 20 different times, I've seen a distinct line on the road (always at the same spot at the crest of a hill) where you can see it's rain on one side & snow on the other. We're on the side that always gets snow & more of it.
