17th August 2013 Magic in the Med (7nights)

Hi! We are considering this cruise although still haven't finalized our plans. We would also like to spend some time in Barcelona before the cruise - if any of you find hotels to recommend or decide where you will stay, please let me know!

We are me, DH, DD14 and DD15 (at cruise time).

We did - we are booked! It will be me, DH, DD14 and DD15. I am hoping to spend a week in Madrid and Barcelona before the cruise. We've been to Italy before on an ABD but there's still so much to see, we are all incredibly excited.

We have booked our flights and a hotel for the Thursday and Friday night. It was very hard finding a hotel that was in our budget as we had to book two rooms and we didn't want to be to far away from the main sights.

I am glad it is all booked now. :)

Hi,
I have a question for all of you who will be flying back to the US immediately post-cruise. We are considering this cruise but I am limited in the amount of time I can take off work. I have heard that with past Med cruises, DCL was very good about getting guests off the ship and to BCN with plenty of time for early return flights. For our dates, BCN to Philly departs at 10:30am. I worry this is so early but really if we had to stay over another night in BCN we would probably not be able to do this cruise (we would have to be at work the next day.) Past cruisers have said even with 10-something am flights they had plenty of time. We would use DCL transfer to BCN just to keep it simple.

Is anyone doing this?

So- we figured out how to post, and found this thread. Not sure what to do. I'm new to boards believe it or not, but i like the idea of talking to people we'll be traveling with before we go. My DH, DD 13, DS 8, and DD 5, and my Mom will be with me. Any advice, tips, etc...? Can't wait!

Hi all!:wave2:

We just booked this cruise in late December.
It will be me, dh, ds16, ds13 & my parents.

We'll be staying 2 nts in Barcelona pre-cruise at the Hispanos 7 Suiza.
They are apartment-style accommodation that are very family-friendly.

For 230Euro/night we get a 2BR/2BA condo with kitchen, LR, & W/D. (190E for a 1BR that sleeps 2 guests.) This was a pre-paid rate. It was more if you want to be able to cancel. We need to save where we can so this works for us. I like that we don't have to book 2 separate rooms and stress if they're not close to each other.

Is anyone else staying here? What are you doing for airport/port transfers?
I'm looking for suggestions. The hotel offers them too but I have no idea if their price is high, low or what. It's 75Euros from airport to hotel & 55E from hotel to port.

I'm so excited to be able to do this cruise! :cool1: :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2:

Hi

I was wondering how everyone is doing with their planning.

British Airways have changed our flight times but I actually prefer the new times; so all is good.

I am looking at transfers at the moment and they seem awfully expensive. Our hotel is only 4 miles from the cruise terminal and I have been quoted 70 euros. I think we may just get two taxis as I will have the little ones car seats with me.

Does anybody know what time we can arrival at the terminal?

Lisa :)

It is expensive; ours as well. Our hotel (Hispanos 7 Suiza) offered transfers: 75E from airport to hotel, then 55E from hotel to port. This is for 6 people. I got another quote from Barcelona Day Tours and they wanted 79E for each transfer. Makes the hotel price look good. I haven't booked it yet but sounds like the best deal. I'm kind of afraid to dig too deep for a better rate since BDT is the only other company I've heard of with recommendations.
I think 6 is too many for a taxi.

How is everyone else getting around?

Hi all :wave2: I hope this will post in the right place! I am new to this forum tonight and am just finding my feet!

We will be cruising with u guys in August and although we are not new to DCL (My husband and I cruised with Disney in 2008), I had no idea that a forum like this existed where you can chat 2 fellow cruisers before setting sail! I am bursting with excitement about cruising with DCL again (as you can probably tell by the time of night I'm posting this!) and this seems to be the only place to chat to like minded people - my friends just don't get the whole Disney obsession thing!!

Anyway, I'm rambling now! Our party consists of me, my husband and our 2 sons who will be 13 and 2.

We have booked our flights into Barcalona on the Friday evening and the hotel but have not yet sorted transfers. I was beginning to think it was just me looking in the wrong places for transfer quotes because I can't believe how expensive transport is in Barcelona! From reading your posts I think we might just jump in a taxi when we arrive at the airport and then ask the hotel to call for one in the morning. it doesn't seem to be cheaper to pre-book. If it were just my husband and I we'd give public transport a go but I really don't fancy getting several buses with a toddler!

I'd better stop rambling now - I just wanted to say hello really! :wave2:

hi Lisa,

I was just wondering if you had found any info re what time the terminal is open for checking in? it might be just me but I'm finding it quite hard to find practical information for Barcelona sailings, especially compared to the abundance of info for USA departures

Emma :)

Hi Emma

Not much luck. I have read a couple of trip reports which say they got to the terminal around 10:30 and boarding was at 12:00. I think that unless we have to pick arrival times on-line then we will probably get there at 10:30.
