Going into a state of panic now :(

We travel to gatwick Sunday and fly on Monday, my daughter 14 is unwell. She is coughing, saying she's cold when she feels hot, she has gone to bed but I am worrying myself sick :( also I went in her room and turned the light on and said I got you some tablets and water and she asked where I was looking right at me, then acknowledged where I was, this has freaked me out but hubby says its probably because she still hadn't woke up properly.

Has anyone else been in this situation, how did you cope?

I'm ill at home at the moment with pretty awful seasonal flu

Dose her up with as much water as you can and try not to let her bury herself under the covers when she's saying she's cold but you know she's got a temperature (it will just incubate the virus and make the fever worse) and keep her spirits up!

I'm sure it will be fine! Don't worry!

xxxx

awww no, hope she gets better really fast.
Do everything you can to get her better eg lots of fluids, vitamins etc.
If shes hot but feels cold, instead of letting her wrap up, get a fan and try to cool her down. It may feel odd at first but believe me, she will feel so much better for it.
hopefully this time tomorrow she will be a lot better. :goodvibes

good luck and have a great holiday.xx:)

She hasn't got a fever just warm, I keep trying to give her water and hope she drinks it :( just been in and seen her and now the duvet is on the floor and the light on? She's confusing me lol.

Ihope she feels better quickly. It seems to be the cough that is annoying everyone at the moment, but hopefully the rest will pass quickly enough. She can get some sleep on the plane. You have some good advice on here already and there is not much else you can do except monitor her and take care of yourself so that you stay healthy x

If you turn a light on when DD has been in darkness she is totally blind for a few seconds. She probably couldn't focus when you turned the light on

I'm coming out of a nasty 3 day virus that sounds similar to what your DD has. I was boiling hot but felt cold, no desire to eat, just wanted to sleep etc. lots of fluid and regular paracetamol and ibuprofen helped. Still got a horrid sore throat but its not bad enough to stop me doing things.

Hope your DD gets well very soon and you have a great trip :-) x

Hope your DD feels better by the morning pixiedust: pixiedust: paracetemol, rest and lots of fluids seem to be the best thing.

I've never forgotten on our first trip to WDW, waiting in the queue at twilight check-in when my youngest DD then age 7 announced she felt sick and we had to rush off to the rest room. I thought it was probably just a mixture of excitement and nerves but the staff weren't taking any risks and although they checked us in, our suitcases were put into isolation. After a good night's sleep my DD was fine but I spent the whole flight worrying that our luggage wasn't going to turn up in Orlando with us! :)

Oh no bless you, hope you had a lovely holiday other than that xx

We just dealt with this for our 4 year old. He came down with a fever the day we flew to wdw. Our whole trip the poor thing was miserable. He actually threw up while riding his dads shoulders waiting in the que for pirates. Luckily I had wet wipes!! I took my essential oils with me and I know they atleast made him able to tolerate the day (although he was not 100%) Use tea trea (melaleuca) for cold symptoms. lemon is good. I use doterra brand, so I carry onguard for flu symptoms. other companies have similiar blends....

good luck! I hope she gets better!!!! I feel like we need a do over for our little guy!!

From a nursing point of view plenty of fluids paracetamol and if she has a cough try pholcodeine
linctus. The codeine helps relieve the irritation. If she doesnt have a fever its more likely a cold brewing.Viruses tend to spike a temp give headaches aches etc. adversity to light can obviously ring the old meningitis alarm bells even if viral but she would have high temp sensitivity to light stiff neck. From what iv read and her age girls are funny creatures( of course we are the best:) ) with hormones etc. if she is sitting up in bed with the light on I wouldnt worry too much but if u are concerned get her to the gp for peace of mind. Ask the gp for some abx as u will be away just incase she has a chest infection brewing. Sorry cant be more helpful but im sure she will be fine. I always worry as my DD has terrible ear and throat problems but my go always give us both a script for abx as nothing worse than being away and being ill. Have a fantastic holiday. The sun will do her good

Can u recommend one for sore throats and headaches.? I know lavender is good and would love to use something natural for DD to try and help with her symptoms on the plane.

She is up and about but full of cold still.

Any tips on colds and dealing with planes, she's not good with the pressure and ears popping etc. I assume a cold doesn't help this.

Thanks for everyone's advice x

Oh and yes I hope the sun will do her good and me too lol.

My doc suggested taking an Sudafed tablet an hour before take off and landing for ear pain, should help her cold too.

Thank you, will go chemist in little while :) x

For ear pain get two cups put a hot towel in each and place them over each ear.Saw a Air Steward do this on an Air France flight with a little girl in great pain on landing,it really did work :)

Hope she is feeling better, & your trip a safe one.
We are supposed to leave at the end of the week, DD has an ear infection & now she has a bump at her eye, :confused3 We might have to reschedule ours.
