Nook died....what to buy a new Nook or Kindle

My refurbished nook from 3 years ago won't hold a charge. Screen locks so it is time to invest in a new ereader.

What do you have and what do you like or not like about it?
I don't want a tablet....just something to read books on so no Ipad or anything like that is necessary or an option.
Just trying to decide if Kindle or Nook is better and which one.

THANKS

I have the original Nook which has been just fine but I'm thinking that once it goes up I'll replace it with a kindle. I've read too many horror stories about B&N dealing with problems. Amazon seems to do a better job with their customer service.

I have a Nook Color. Love it, when I had a problem I took it to my local B&N and they were very helpful and problem solved. I do like being able to have face to face with knowledgeable customer service in the store. When I originally picked Nook over Kindle it was because I could borrow from the library in Nook format only, now Kindle also has that option, so they do even out in my opinion because my reading addiction would be too expensive without a library option.

If and when I replace mine, I will probably stick with Nook because I do have a decent amount of books I have bought over time and I do reread books, so I would want that option.

I have had both. I got a nook first, then a Kindle. I am now on my 3rd Kindle. I just got the Paperwhite with the built in light. I love it:hippie:

I have a nook color (rooted;) so it's more like a tablet now) I HAD a kindle 3g keyboard (sigh) and I have a plain old kindle reader...for straight up reading the kindle beats everything! my new goal is to get the kindle paperwhite when my current kindle dies....but for now I LOVE the kindle!
The nook has so much less content,it's ridiculous. B&N has very little free and cheap stuff.... the kindle,on the other hand,is full of great deals. there's no contest!
Seriously, the Nook has that miserable little store linked browser/app store...and a bunch of softporn 'romance' titles in their free offerings, and very little else, unless you want to pay.
Kindle is full access to Amazon site, the cloud of info and books available, even an experimental web browser that is useful in a limited way....
(using a special sd card in the nook color has turned it into a somewhat useable tablet, but so far the only good thing about it was I got a decent deal for 99.00 when I bought it)

I have a nook simple touch. Mine has had a few problems, but B&N was great about fixing them. The first time, the battery wouldn't hold a charge more than a week. It was under warranty and they just gave me a new one. The second time, it locked up and wouldn't do anything and they were able to fix it in the store. It was out of warranty, but they didn't charge me.

That said, if it dies I'm getting a Kindle. When we got the Nook, there was more free content for it, but now there's almost nothing new other than insipid Christian fiction that I don't want to read. There are much better freebies for Kindle.

Love my Nook...I had the original, DH gave me the new one for Christmas. I can read magazines, browse catalogs, check out library books, and I have a lot of BN books. If you hunt a little, you can find cheap/free nook books that are better than previously mentioned.

Sorry, hit send too soon...you might take your Nook to a BN store, then might be able to fix it. They fixed mine when it had a similar problem....no cost. I like being able to go into a store and get help.

Is there a particular reason you don't want a tablet? You could just get a tablet and have nook and kindle apps so you would have access to content from both.

LOVE the Paperwhite! And I love the Amazon case for it. Hands down the most convenient, protective, well-fitting and good looking case for an e-reader I've ever used.

That would be my suggestion....the ONLY reason I would do a kindle or nook now is for the e-ink display which limits it to basically books only.

I have a kindle and an ipad. I won't read on the ipad because it kills my eyes.

Me either. If my Kindle breaks, I'm getting a new one ASAP!

Got a kindle for Christmas from DH. I wanted just a plain ereader...nothing fancy. I love to read and like the feel and smell of books and was hesitant to get an ereader. I read so much about the nook vs. the kindle that my head was spinning. :confused3: I finally told him to get me whatever. The main thing that swayed him was that we already had an account with amazon and through our library system, downloading library books was a breeze. I also got a slim case for it...it just slides in and out and stays in securely. Love that it fits in my purse and I have more than one book to read at a time.

My sister and daughter both have nooks and they like them, but I love my kindle. I don't know why I didn't get one sooner. :thumbsup2
