2013 Grammys Thread

Yay for Mumford & Sons winning album of the year. If you haven't heard 'Babel', give it a listen. The lyrics are amazing.

It's amazing! Glad Marcus Mumford was finally grabbed. I was thinking of leaving my husband and making a play for him! lol! His passion is infectious. I have only been following them for a year but their popularity has grown exponentially in that time. They sold out three 2day concerts in less than an hour last Friday.

Didn't get to watch the show last night. Can't really tell from the comments so far if I really missed much, but I'm hoping someone who saw the show can answer my question. At one point during the show the channel was changed at my friend's house and paused on the Grammys for a moment, showing Jay Z sitting in the audience holding a brandy snifter? and it looked like he mouthed thank you to someone on the stage who spoke to him -- didn't see enough to know who he was talking to.

Did they do some type of a comedy bit & involve people from the audience or why was Jay Z sitting out there with a snifter of brandy? I thought Golden Globes was the awards show with beverages and the audience there sits at tables. I'm sure I have something all mixed up because I wasn't watching the show & only saw something when a channel was changed, but it's bugging me to know what the heck I saw.

Thanks to anybody who has a clue what I'm talking about. No, in case anybody was wondering, I had no snifter of brandy or anything else myself to make me imagine this.

I think Jay Z had the drink or a drink every time the cameras cut to him last night. It was a little odd, as he was the only one that I noticed with a drink and it was almost every single time he was shown. I'm not sure who he said thank you to, but I remember someone thanking him on stage or saying something nice about him, so I'm sure that was it.

Thank you. It was bugging me to know for no particular reason.

i'm sorry, Taylor. but P!nk does the funhouse/circus bit MUCH better.

my DD loves that song and she actually left the room. :thumbsup2

This was about the only thing I saw last night, and I totally agree!! I used to be a huge fan, as did DD, but now, not so much.
And her nasty dig at Harry Styles was just mean and uncalled for.

I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift so I didn't watch her performance....what dig did she make at Harry Styles?

RE: Jay-z, not sure why he had a drink but he actually said "you're welcome" when I believe Fun. was on stage and a member of the group thanked Jay-Z.

After listening to the lyrics and title of the Best Rap Song Grammy given to JayZ and Kanye, Im disgusted with the Grammy's. Im not one to easily get disgusted by this kind of thing, but its horrible what the Grammy awards has chosen to honor. And Im completely turned off to this JayZ love. I can't even post the title because it wouldn't pass the messageboard censors.

There was a nice thank you from Frank Ocean to JayZ and he responded from his seat. Prolly what you saw. I think the whole snifter thing was a nod to Justin Timberlake's tuxedoed performance that included a tuxedoed JayZ, who came up from his seat to perform.

Sorry, it's rap. JayZ love isn't new at all. He's the reason many of these R&B and rap, hip hop artists are around. Women too. He's the Motown of their genre and he's backed them with cash and love. He's not a bad guy really. Rap has 'bad words' and sometimes lots of them. Except at the Grammys, you'll never have to listen again.

It goes beyond bad words. The use of the N word is ridiculous and then they market it to young kids, many white, and then tell them they can't use it all while apparently condoning the use of it. The bad words is the least of my issue with this song and the N word is just part of it. Its a hypocritical mess.

Ive been around long enough to remember rap starting, and it was nothing like this.

I agree. My kids grew up listening to Rap. I hated it at first but it's grown on me. Jay Z is a huge talent among his peers.

I was sorry that Frank Ocean lost as best new artist (who I believe was discovered by Jay Z and is not a rap singer but a R&B singer). I think he is the next Stevie Wonder (minus being blind of course! )

Have not been through the whole thread, so someone else may have already pointed this out, but did anyone else feel like they were watching a small-scale version of the castle projection show when Carrie Underwood was performing?

:rotfl: YEP! I was also thinking Princess Aurora, her dress keeps changing, lol. I give Carrie credit for staying so stationary so her dress/screen didn't move.

I love Pink...but I thought Taylor's deal was treading Alice in Wonderland territory which actually bugged me even more. She did not do justice to Alice, Mad Hatter, White Rabbit OR Wonderland :sad2:
Speaking of PINK, I have a PINK channel on Pandora. I clicked it on the other day and the first song was Pink, the second was Taylor Swift's Trouble! I 'm sorry, I know she is trying to cross out of country but she is NO PINK!!!!!!!!
