Disney no longer offers airline/interline

It's a perk..just like the people at GM and Ford get on new cars and the people that work at stores get a discount

Correct. They are getting a perk at their places of employment. No reason for them to get Disney discounts. They already get deep discounts on airfare.

I think that is for cruiselines and hotels to decide if they want to discount there room and cruises to. I got 60% off my Dcl cruise last year because Disney could not fill the ship at full fare. I'm have never been able to understand why people on this board were always so annoyed with airline employees getting a discount. I am always happy for other people. I am guessing maybe there is some deep seated hatred of airlines and there employees. I'm not sure. Maybe you can explain.

Nothing to explain and no hatred or jealousy from me. I have no animosity towards airlines or their employees. Just pointing out to the person that I was responding to that their argument was not identical to this situation. No more discussion from me on this topic.

Sometimes, these discounts are given as part of a reciprocal agreement. FedEx is the perfect example. FedEx crewmembers were able to deadhead and nonrev on the airlines, so airline employees were able to ship stuff in the cheap.

The bottom line is that these discounts were negotiated between the companies for the benefit of the employees. From an employee standpoint, getting these discounts or not is frequently the thing that makes a crummy job worth it.

I think airline empolyees are disappointed there discount has been discontinued. The person that started this thread wanted to vent. Instead of getting any kind of empathy they have been told they never deserved it. Some posters even seemed happy about it. I don't think it has ever been a question of deserving anything. Military and Florida residents don't "deserve it" either, and I hope Disney dose not discontinue their discount. I would never take pleasure out of someone elses misfortune. That's all I have to say on this matter too.

My guess is that Disney saw that this discount was not positively impacting them enough to keep it. Companies do not give discounts to be nice. It is a business strategy that can assist them in making money in the long run. Most likely, they were not getting enough of a benefit (either through booking numbers or returning visitors) to keep the discount (and the costs associated with it).

But then again I have learned on these boards that some people don't like it when a decision is made by a business that might profit the business. Disney making money seems to be a "bad" thing...

It may or may not have been a 'bottom line' decision. Remember, many (most?) of these discounts are some sort of reciprocal agreement. It may be that the discount agreement was terminated by whatever travel association negotiated it with Disney, not by Disney itself. Alternatively, it may have simply expired and is being renegotiated.

:thumbsup2 I think you are spot on!

The only people that makes sense to me to get a perk from Disney or any other travel destination are the people the directly book people into their parks, cruise ships, resorts, etc. And NO I am not in the industry.

It makes no sense to me that a flight attendant, pilot, ticketing/check-in person, etc should get one.

The only people outside of the travel agent business to get a perk to me; are persons and family in the Military, Emergency/Fire, Police. And I'm sure I'll get flamed by some for these exceptions; but I'm ok with that.

i agree that it made no sense for airline employees to get a discount. They already (I assume) get discounts on flying, they want discounts on hotels as well?? :confused3 I can't believe it lasted this long; should have been done away with long ago, IMO.

We fly free actually, and I am sure we will continue to get discounts on hotels and cruises. I don't know why it bothers you and others so much. Unhappy with your life I guess.

yes, that must be it, lol. :rotfl:
I wouldn't say it "bothers" me as this is the first I've ever heard of an airline discount..... upon reading it all I thought was that I had no idea such a discount existed and it doesn't make sense to me. Why airline employees? Because they're in the 'travel' business? So are hotel employees - do they get discounts? What about car rental employees? I just find it puzzling because it doesn't make much sense, that's all; I'm not losing sleep or checking into a mental health clinic over it, lol. ;)

I would agree with Maxiemoms on this. If it was a benefit to them them they would have kept the discount. If the military discount does not benefit them they will get rid of that too. I don't think it has anything to do with what proffession they think deserves a discount.

Its why people go to work for the airlines for the benefits. It may not make sense to you, but its the way it is. Interline rates are offerred all over the world. I guess not enough airline employees choose disney to make it worth while.

People that work in the travel get discounts on hotels, cruises, fly free and discounts on park tickets. It's one of the perks of working in travel industry. There has always been a lot of jealousy on this board so I can see where this thread could turn ugly fast. Nobody ever said they deserved it's just something most hotel chains offer. I'm not sure why Disney got rid of it.
Not jealous at all...just realistic. Disney does away with things for many reasons.

Universal resorts offer the 40% off if your looking for a nice resorts in Orlando. Disney will be losing about 20k from me a year, but there are still lots of great places in the world to visit. I wouldn't get to down about it. I was told the are getting rid of it because the public discounts are so close to the airline discounts. I have a feeling it has more to do with closing down there interline office that deals with the reservations. They probably want to cut out a department more than they want to lose our business.

20K a year from you?? That's a pretty significant amount of vacation dollars.
I certainly don't feel happy that some aren't getting discounts they used to ge. But, neither am I. Disney has taken away a lot of stuff that they used to give us...both as DVC and AP people.
And I, for one, think the military is entitled to every single thing they can get. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

That actually makes perfect sense. This kind of thing happens all the time.

I don't think anyone here is 'happy' that airline employees aren't getting this discount any more. I think they just feel that Disney is free to make whatever business judgements they want. It's a business.

DO NOT misquote me about the military. Yes several poste have said they are happy the discount is gone even though it really does not affect them.I think you need to work on your reading comprehension.20k from me.Why is that a suprise.

Ummm, no need to work on my reading comprehension skills. I know what I see and I pretty much understand what is being said. I don't believe I misquoted you about the military. You do say they don't 'deserve it'...not sure if that's just your way of saying they do deserve it but it doesn't sound like that at all...I guess ' ' can change the meaning when wrapped around a phrase.
And that whole 20K? Sorry but that's a sizable figure for going to WDW. I'm sure you know how to spend your vacation dollars. But, to be honest?? Not that many people spend that kind of money at WDW every year. So, while Disney may miss you, they aren't going to miss the majority of people not getting this 'perk'.

This is what I get for trying to take the high ground...won't make that mistake again. It would seem that unless you agree, 100%, with some people, you are just plain wrong and need to work on reading skills. How insulting! And? It adds nothing to board discussions.
And after rereading every post, I fail to see where anyone here has said they were happy this program ended. I didn't even see anyone who seemed that they were happy. Yes, I saw posters who didn't see the sense in the discount program, but that's certainly not the same as thinking someone doesn't 'deserve' it, or that they are happy it ended!! Geez. I have a friend that used to get discounted passes to WDW through her office. That program ended years ago though. It was nice while it lasted but it's gone now. No one spent a lot of time worrying about whether or not they 'deserved' it. It was something given to them. They either used it, or didn't..up to them. Then, it ended. End of story.
