Using Disney Gift Cards

Hi fellow mouse lovers!
Question from a newbie. I'm considering buying many disney gift cards from target due to the red card discount (covered in another thread).
What is the ease of which we will be able to use them? Can I charge everything to my room and then pay the balance with the gift card? if i go to my local disney store can i consolidate all the cards onto one? i want to save some money by doing this but I don't want to spend my much anticipated vacation fumbling with gift cards.

You can not consolidate them into one. My 3 girls got 4 Disney gift cards each (12 total) before our trip and I asked the Disney store and they said no way :-(

You have until midnight the night before you check out to apply your gift cards to the balance. Easier than carrying around the gc's, IMO.

I also use the redcard discount, and what i do is pay for the hotel w/cards and then place my Credit card for any charges i want to place to our room.Once we get to the parks we just use the giftcards to pay for everything(usually take $150 per day unless we are doing a nice dinner) and the rest i lock up in the room safe.

Boo! What if you wanted to buy a $200 gc and presented 4 $50 cards as payment? Lol

Yup, that's pretty much what we wanted to do...I showed the gift cards (they were even the ones bought at the Disney store with different designs) wanted to pay with them to get each child one gift card to use, thought it would be easier than fumbling with a dozen gift cards lol. We weren't allowed to do that, bummed but it turned out fine. We just locked the extras in the safe until we needed them!

Not true. If you don't do express checkout you can use the gift cards on the morning you check out.

I'll be using the Target gift cards to pay for this trip as well. I was bummed that they can't be consolidated, but it's still worth the extra money we'll save. It's enough we can go do something special like the Pirates cruise or something. All in all I'm going to need like 100 cards as they are only in increments of $50, but from what I understand while time consuming the CMs are used to this.

thanks for the idea...hopefully i can find some discounted cards

The cards themselves are not discounted. If you have a Target Credit Card all purchases made at Target are 5% off. So if you buy the Disney gift cards there you get 5% off of them as well.

Glad to know the CMs are used to this... I fully intend on going this route to save some money!

I know I am bringing back an old thread, but there is some old stale information out there on the world wide web. Thought I would offer up some info in case someone is doing research on this.

Disney gift cards can no longer be consolidated - online, on the phone or at the Stores. They used to offer this service but stopped "about two years ago" per the rep I just spoke with.

Disney gift cards cannot be used to purchase other gift cards. I thought I could get away with using my 15 $50 gift cards to purchase one $750 card at the Disney Store. As I was told by the store Manager, they cannot be used to so and it is even says so on the back of the card.

Hope this helps someone else!
