Please someone explain AFT to me?

Aft is the back of the ship. Forward is the front of the ship. Aft cabins would be any cabin towards the back of the midship point.

Not sure what other significance it has....where did you see it referenced where it was not meant as the back of the ship?

Aft is a direction. If you are standing on the ship facing the front (bow) and start walking, you are going "forward". If you turn around and start walking (toward the "stern") you are going "aft".

AFT is a short version of AFTer... The back comes after the front...

If you get thrown overboard, AFTerwards you get to see the ship carryon sailing away!

If your late back to the port, AFTerwards you get to see your ship sail into the sunset without you!

Aft really only refer's to the extreme back of a vessel and is in reference to the afterwash kicked up by the props.
Although it's common usage is to refer from halfway Midships to the back of a vessel.

OP, ^^ is my understanding. Forward and aft are directions while bow and stern are locations.

Doesn't matter, I usually end up headed the wrong direction, anyway!

It depends on who you ask. I don't mind AFT but there is more motion than midship staterooms.

The general areas on a ship (fore, aft, mid) are not really seen as desirable over others. Each has it's own quirks...

Aft is closest to Food, mid to pools, and fore to shows. But deck 7 is generally very good, not much above or below to make noise. Worst think that happens AFT is some vibration. But that happens fore as well. And you'll hardly ever be in your room anyway. Enjoy your cruise!

Cool thank you. I don't want steerage or the deck directly under the pools. I think we will use our room though. DS and I are looking forward to some late night room service and chilling in the little port hole area.

It depends on who you ask. I don't mind AFT but there is more motion than midship staterooms.

Thank you. We've never been sea sick. I read Bonine does wonders though just in case. DS is used to boats and the water, just not ships and the ocean. Hope he doesn't decide he's prone to seasickness. I'm definitely not mentioning it.

We always prefer fore or aft (at least on the smaller classic ships). Better access to empty elevators, quieter halls, cheaper prices...

When I looked we seemed close to elevators but I must have had the ship turned around- lol! The one review I found on my stateroom did say it was quite and near some secret area which i think is just an empty deck with chairs. And yes it was less expensive for sure. And with the navigators porthole which is exactly what DS wanted.

I'm terrible with spacial relations and directions, the cruise should be interesting.

7622 is in two different places on the newer and older ships... I went newer just by default... Sorry!

Yall are very close to the aft lifts... but aft of the Lifts so few people will be back there... nice and quiet but accessible... Good choice!
