Would you enjoy universal if you werent familiar with the story lines?

One of my biggest things, if not the biggest, is that I want to see new technology in rides. That always excites me so whether it is Disney or Universal, if they got KUKA arm or 3D tech, etc. - that's what gets me and my family into the park. Storyline is usually less important for me as there are a lot of great stories out there but only so many awesome ride technologies/effects.

my family loves universal and....

have never seen or read harry potter

never seen the simpsons - my favorite ride!

never seen the mummy- husband and son love it

never seen JP, MIB, Twister, -- love them...

never seen Disp. me - LOVE this!!!

I wish I had been a huge fan when I first saw Hogwarts. I've seen people break down in tears. That must be a pretty awesome feeling!

I didn't cry but I was seriously in awe when I first walked into WWOHP. It made it all the better that we were the first ones in (empty!) and it was at night and so hauntingly beautiful (we had the park to ourselves bc of a private event) It was truly, utterly magical pixiedust: I'll never forget it

My best memory was when our driver picked us up at the airport and as we were heading to our hotel he told us to look out the window. There is the distance was Hogwarts. My daughter and I just about squealed like fan-girls!

It really is awesome when you have a connection like that!

Yes you can. The rides are themed after the movies but not based on them. Everything you need to know gets covered in the queues. I have never even looked at a Harry Potter book but I absolutly loved the ride (and the whole area around it).

Let me chime in: if you've never seen a Spiderman movie, know nothing of the characters, but go on the ride and watch a 3D Doc Oc (I think it is Doc Oc) slam a power cable into your car and the whole thing starts vibrating like you're being electrocuted - that's pretty amazing. You don't have to know who's who or a storyline to realize you're experiencing something special. Go, you'll love it.

The thing is, your kids wouldn't know the Disney story lines had you not indoctrinated them thusly.

Think of this as a chance for the whole fam to experience a new adventure. It just might become the new family tradition.

I took my mom to US/IOA last summer because she's a huge Harry Potter fan. I've never read the books or seen the movies. I still had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the whole area and the rides. My mom had an even better time because she knew the whole story line behind everything.

We 'usually' do Disney. This will be my 7dd 1st trip to Universal (she'll be 8 when we go). I've been to IOA twice (pre Harry Potter) and Spiderman is my favorite ride, anywhere, and I'm not a Spiderman fan.

We started to watch some of the things so that she would enjoy it more. She now knows about Popeye, Jurrasic Park, ET, MIB, and she absolutely loves Harry Potter. She isn't very happy that we won't let her watch all of them. Still not sure if I'm ready to let her watch the Simpsons.

So all in all I'd say that even if yall don't know much about the characters it will still be enjoyable. But knowing the characters makes it more enjoyable...and maybe a bit more real. Either way, enjoy your trip!:cheer2:

I am not really a fan of Harry Potter. I've never read a book or seen any of the movies. My wife dragged me to one of them and I slept through it.

But I will say that Forbidden Journey is an amazing ride.

So you don't have to be familiar with the material, as long as you love rides.

Oh and no one is every past Dr. Seuss, lol. Cat in the Hat is always fun no matter how old you are.

I even rode One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish on my own yesterday ;)

Love it, but I got SOAKED!
