I have heard a lot of people on here talk about useing these credits. Is this something that can be purchased and used in the MK rather than carrying cash?? Where do you get these cards in order to use them

Snack credits are what's offered to those who avail themselves of the Disney Dining Plan. The Disney Dining Plan (DDP) is tied to your room card/Key To The World Card or your bracelet (depending when you go), and you present it as currency for your meals/snacks on qualified purchases.

Snack credits cannot be purchased individually, they have to come as part of the DDP. However, you can have most credit cards and debit/credit cards tied to your room key/bracelet, so you can present the card as if it were currency with the charges being added to your room. There is a limit of $500 per day before you have to call to raise or restore the limit.

Snack credits are a part of the various dining plans. If you are an onsite guest, you can just charge items to your room key and pay them off at the front desk. This would allow you to not have to use as much cash in the parks. It is always good to carry a little bit of cash,though, just in case you need it.

How does an AP holder get a dining plan if they are not staying onsite?

AP holders still have to stay on site to get a dining plan. They just don't have to purchase a package that includes tickets.

You're right, that's what I meant. You still have to be staying on-site.

If you don't want to carry cash, get a gift card in the amount of your dining budget. We pay for our trips entirely with gift cards and I wouldn't have it any other way. Plus, if you come in under budget on your food, you can use the remainder on souvenirs (or whatever else strikes your fancy.)

The only thing you can't use any sort of plastic on (gift card, dining plan, KTTW charge, credit card) are roving vendors, like those who sell light up stuff during the parade. I can honestly say that although I carry a very small amount of cash (along with ID, ticket, and room card,) I have never had to use it, and I have spent a ton of days there in the last couple of years.

The Disney Dining Plans are a method of pre-paying for meals and snacks (and yes, you have to stay onsite to get them).

They used to be a fabulous deal when first introduced around 2005, but not so much anymore; now they're more likely to be just a method of prepayment to give the feel of an "all inclusive" vacation to those who purchase Disney packages.

No, it's definitely not the kind of deal it once was. Savings will apply without working at it to relatively few parties compared to the period between 2005-2008. I'm now loath to call the DDP a "discount program."

I agree and unless it is free in Sept I will not be using the DP for the first time since 2006!!
