Hello Everyone! This is my first post EVER on Disboards! I found this section and thought it most appropriate to post here.

My son was diagnosed with Leukemia in February of 2010. He was 5 at the time. Treatment for Leukemia is very LOOOONG and drawn out - but I am happy to say that in April of 2013 (this year) he will complete his chemotherapy regimen and will be able to see the doctor less frequently!! WE ARE SO EXCITED!!

In celebration of his great feat - we are planning a week long DisneyWorld trip!!! This is why I have come to the disboards.... I am seeking "help". I have the details all figured out -- but I would REALLY like to introduce him to the "Pin Trading" phenomenon by getting him his FIRST pin -- and present it to him the morning before we leave for Disney.

While researching, I found a website called Disneypins.com. I did a search for a "doctor mickey" pin (since I thought this would be a most appropriate pin to receive at this momentous time!) I found a "Doctors Day 2013" pin scheduled to be released in DISNEYLAND Parks on February 28, 2013. It is a limited edition pin so I am not able to order it from merchandise guest services until 30 days after it has been released (which I fear may be too late and it will be sold out.)

So my question to the community is this: Is there anyone that frequently visits Disneyland that will be visiting during the release date of this pin, and would be willing to purchase and ship it to me? (Advance payment from me of course)...??

I thank you in advance for your time in reading this post and hope that outside of my request, my sons story may bring hope to those in similar situations. He is a survivor and the medical advancements of our time are miraculous gifts to anyone experiencing cancer and/or disease. <3 Best of luck to all who are experiencing a loss or a momentary break in spirit. In the end it will all work out just as planned. <3

What FABULOUS great news that is!! I can't imagine what your entire family went through.. What a great way to celebrate.

I really am not a pin expert or even close ;), how about the trip planning boards? There you may find someone going at that time.

Or how about calling and explaining? Maybe you can put one on hold? I honestly don't know what I am talking about, but it may be worth a shot if the trip planning board doesn't work out.

I can't help with the pin, but wanted to say :jumping1: for your son finishing treatment! My daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia April '12, so we finish up in Oct '14. We'll definitely be planning a huge trip once she's done! It really is a loooooooong road.

I am so sorry to hear about her recent diagnosis, JWCJ. It is a loooong road but as you can see in my case, it will all be over before you know it. You and your child will be better people from it. Hard to believe but its true! My thoughts are with you during this tough first year... and I am praying for an easy journey for you all. Congrats on the Make-A-Wish trip!! :) HAVE FUUUNN! I know we did!

Thanks for your kind words and advice. i did post to another topic, and got quite a few replies :) Now I am working on reaching my 10 post limit so that I can PM them :D Thank you for your help, and yes: we are SUPER excited!

What wonderful news just in time for summer! How do you plan to celebrate?
I have a table reserved at La Hacienda in Epcot for Illuminations time-ish... So I am hoping I will have it planned just right for front row viewing of Illuminations :). Also at that same meal, I am going to have a specialty cake made and delivered to our table right after the show is over. What do you think? and then off course there will be many other "mini-celebrations" and "presents" for the remainder of our 7 day stay. :)

When are you going to the World? I am going down late March/early April and would be happy to look for the pin at the large pin shop at DTD for you!

And hurry and get your 10 posts done so I can IM you :)

Got my 10!! :) Yay!!! PM me anytime... and thank you for your offer. If you wouldn't mind looking for the pin for me, it would be GREATLY appreciated :) It would mean SO much to get a hold of this pin. I do have a few others on the hunt for me also!!

EDIT*
It won't let me post the url but check out the WDWSTORE online. They sell park merchandise only available at parks. Either search Doctors day or go to pin, sholiday, march. You will find it there.

Just in case anyone is unable to find it, this website offers pre-sale of the pin and it should be shipped right after the release it says!

My son has a rare auto ammuine disease and he is slowly weaning off most of his strong meds! We are celebrating with an 8 day disney cruise in april. I am so happy for you and you son:cool1: We've been taking high dose methotrexate for about 2 years and it makes him soo tired, so I can't even imagine what your son has been through. Our doc said we can stop methotrexate before our trip if we get back great bloodwork!!! Fingers crossed. My son has son exposure restrictions so we got a letter from our doctor and supposedly Disney assures me that if we show our letter at guest services in the park we will get special passes so we don't wait in line on our day at the park. My sons condition also causes extreme fatigue at times as well so the passes will be helpful. I thought the pass info might be helpful for you depending on how much better your son feels by the trip? I am going to look into getting the doctor mickey pin too!!! Good luck and I will pray for complete and speedy recovery pixiedust:

MShelby - That is AMAZING. I am so happy for your son and family! My son has been on oral and intrathecal methotrexate for the duration of his treatment (about 3 years to date), so it sounds like you and I have very similar cases. I hope your Disney trip turns out to be everything you have hoped for and more!!! You deserve it! And I am reeealllllly hoping your sons blood work comes back good so that he can have increased energy for the vacation!!! Thank you for your advice on the passes, I will look into it... I somewhat knew about them already, I guess I just don't like getting those dirty looks from people who I know are thinking "you dont LOOK sick or disabled, why are YOU getting cut in line?!?!" but i do know that it is NONE of their business and my child's health is most important. :) So I just might do the same as you. Good luck on finding the pin, let me know if you want me to look for you when I go (although who knows if any will be left by then ?!?) -- Take care and best wishes.

I guess I don't care about the dirty looks;) You're right about people thinking they may not look sick enough, etc... This whole experience has taught me that you never know what a person has going on just by looking at them! Also, after what our kids have been through I think they deserve a cut in the line regardless!!! Most kids will never have to go through all the things our litttle troopers have been through so I say that there has to be at least a few perks to dealing with all of this junk:thumbsup2

We live near Disney and when you are able to visit, please let me know and we will meet you at Downtown Disney, buy you all a great sandwich at the Earl of Sandwich, and give your son some pins to start his trading...
