So yesterday I was talking with my Sister in Law and she was telling me that supposibly there is going to be a monsters inc roller coaster behind where the backlot tour is right now. Also she did say something about radiator springs racers coming to WDW but last I heard that was false. Does anyone know if this is true?

Did she hear it from a Disney bus driver? That's the real question. :)

Why are you asking if they heard it from a bus driver? Are they spreading rumors? Also, I think a Monsters Inc. roller coaster would be pretty cool. Especially with Monsters University coming out.

A lot of people hear rumors from bus drivers and usually they post them and they are pretty outlandish. This rumor has been floating around for the last couple years. We'll see what happens.

I have no idea where she heard that one. The only reason why I would believe it is because light motors action had a sign outside it that it was going to close soon

A Monster's Inc coaster has been rumored for years, the rumor seems to re-surface periodically. There have also been a lot rumors recently about some form of Carsland coming to DHS, but nothing official.

In response to the Monsters Inc roller coaster rumors, I was told by a very good friend last June who works for the Mouse (and I actually mean a trustful, close friend - not a bus driver or some other "acquaintance") that he personally saw sections of track for a new coaster style ride out back at HS. He said he is convinced that the Monsters Inc rumors will come to fruition - but if not, that at the minimum there IS something going in at HS with roller coaster style track.

So, while I wouldn't bet the farm on any specific theming for such an attraction (I.E. Monster's Inc), I do truly believe his observations that something new is coming. Of course Monster's Inc 2 does get release tentatively this June. That being said, however, if you look at Disney's opening of attractions based upon Modern Day Movie Titles, you'll see a trend:

Toy Story release date: NOV 1995/Space Ranger Spin (@WDW) opening: OCT 1998 (In case you're wondering, Toy Story 2 wasn't released until NOV 1999)

Bug’s Life release date: NOV 1998/Tough To Be a Bug (@WDW) opening: APR 1998

Lilo and Stitch release date: JUN 2002/Stitch's Great Escape (@WDW) opening: NOV 2004

Finding Nemo release date: May 2003/Finding Nemo Sub Voyage (@DL) opening: JUN 2007/The Seas with Nemo & Friends (@WDW) opening: JAN 2007

Cars release date: JUN 2006 & Cars 2 release date: JUN 2011/Cars Land (@DL) opening: JUN 2012

To sum up this data, only once has an attraction ever opened prior to an actual release (Bug’s Life was released 7 months AFTER the attraction actually opened in AK. Of the two attractions based upon Disney movies that had wide-release sequels, one opened after the 1st film was released but prior to the sequel being released while the other attraction opened only after both films were released. And furthermore, the average time between an attraction and the film’s release was: 2.95 years. But if you remove the two outliers (the shortest time and longest time), the average time between film release and attraction opening is: 3.1 years.

Interestingly enough, Monsters, Inc was released November 2001.

I think both are possible and would be happy with either. But, I put on my WDW Cost Control / Profit Calculation hat and I ask:

  • Carsland has driven huge attendance numbers in Anaheim, would it not do the same thing in Orlando?
  • Do I risk a new creative coaster that may be prone to breakdowns?
  • I already built Carsland once. Would it not be cheaper?
  • Would it be possible to tackle two such ambitious projects simultaneously?

Am thinking they are printing the Radiator Springs signs now........

Disclaimer. While I do place great value on energy drinks, beaded seat-covers, blind-spot mirrors, drivers who use turn-signals, well marked roads, kid's who do not cry/scream/puke, Waffle House/IHOP/Perkins/Dennys and good rumors: I am currently not, nor have ever been, a Bus Driver.

They could build it in DCA, just change the name California Screamin' to Monsters, Inc. Screamin'

It will be lucky to coincide with the opening of Monster's Inc 14.

Upon completion it will have been a 4 Year project (announcement to completion - not including the planning work) to build a silly Mine Train ride in Fantasyland. Why? No clue!

They build new 80K seat stadiums in 18 months? I certainly think you, me and a dozen friends can build it quicker. Doesn't Ty Pennington work for ABC? Have him and the boys bash it out in a weekend - or give them 10 days and call it a two-part special.

Love it...big ratings boost...maybe a new reality show...Building Disney.

And if they do--- you can test ride it!

~No, it won't! Harry Potter phase II will crush Carsland!!! Not to mention -- Transformers, Simpson's expansion, & possible Jurassic Park expansion!

Its well known that Bus Drivers are invited to sit in every imagineer and executive meeting!

When I heard that Toy Story Midway Mania was coming (5/08) almost 10 years after Toy Story 2 was released I had a feeling a sequel was coming. Sure enough, TS3 came in 2010. They really need another big draw like that for DHS, we had a hard time making a full day of it.

That's been our experience as well. We like DHS, but once you've done the backlot tour, you've done it 1,000 times, and Lights-Motors-Action stunt show is *really* dated IMO now. You can only walk down the fake movie-set streets so many times. I like Indiana Jones even if it is essentially unchanged, and Star Tours is a winner, but among those few things it really is hard to make a full day out of it.

A Monsters Inc roller coaster could be really a neat addition.
