Hoop De Do or Mickeys BBQ ?

What's the difference?
What is your preferance and why?

:)

They are 2 totally different experiences.
Mickey's BYBBQ is, in my opinion, geared toward families with young children.
It is a character barbeque held outside in a covered pavilion (subject to heat, cold and rain). There is no reserved seating and it is chaos to run to a picnic table when they open. The food is buffet style, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn, salad, beans etc. You have to help yourself. There is a show with the characters who line dance with the little ones. They do not pose for pictures or sign autographs.
HDDR is a Western Themed dinner show. It is held in air condidtioned Pioneer Hall. It is an "All You Care to Eat" meal served family style. It is corn bread, salad, fried chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes, baked beans, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The price includes tax, tip and beverages including beer, wine and sangria. The food is good "down home cooking"
It is good for groups of all ages.
The show is a high energy Western themed show full of singing, dancing, corny jokes and lots of audience participation.
I love the HDDR

I agree with the previous poster.

We did the Backyard BBQ when our DDs were younger. And they enjoyed it, but it was hectic with people trying to get close to the characters. Fun, but hectic.

When they were about 6 we tried the HDDR to see what it was like, and it was a big hit. They laughed soooo hard. Now, HDDR is one of the first places put on their list to book each year.

I've never done the BBQ but the HDDR was great. Highly recommend it. The show was so funny (corny but funny), the food was excellent. We had a great time.

We prefer HDDR for all of the reasons given by Hopefully, who really nailed the pros and cons.

hooked me for life! The food, the bottomless adult beverages, the corny western ho down antics, the actors that seemed timeless...all good reasons to go. The food has changed over the years but has always been top quality. I still have pictures from my first time there...great memories!

Backyard BBQ did once and would never go again....just not a fun time...but it was like 90 degrees out and much uncontrolled mayhem with the little ones..

Even with small kids, the BBQ is terrible. Just way too chaotic -- mothers will cameras trampling little kids on the dance floor, etc. The show was kind of lame too. We left about three quarters of the way through and I think half the place was already gone.. We loved Hoop -- the food is better, entertainment is much, much better..

Never done the "barbecue" but have done Hoop Dee Doo at least three times and would do it again. Entertainment is fun for all ages. Food is excellent and plentiful. Audience participation is hilarious!

We enjoy both. We were only at HDDR once, but DH was pulled on stage to play the part on the Indian. The kids thought that was great!

The BBQ is my DD favorite and is her must-do. I wanted to comment that it isn't a free for all when getting a table anymore. The last two times we went, the CMs seated you. It is hectic during the dance party, though.

Sorry I can't comment on the BBQ but we LOVE HDDR! Even my only Disney-tolerant DH loves it and insists we go back over and over. (DS and nephew have also LOVED it at various ages as young as 1 year!)
