? On buying multiple point contracts over time

I am thinking of purchasing DVC points over a multi year period. For example : Purchase 100 points in 2013, 50 in 2014 and 100 in 2015. I would then at some point be able to use all 250 points in one year

I read this restriction on another site and wanted to get clarification "DVC has instituted a limit of one transfer per member (or membership) per use year*"

Does this mean that I need to set up each contract into a different use year or can I actually keep them all in the same use year and combine them when I want to use them

Thanks for any feedback

If all your contracts have the same UY, they will function as one membership and wouldn't require transfers to combine them.

All contracts have to be titled the same and have the same UY to be combined under one account/membership.

Contracts for each home resort can be used at 11 months at that resort or used elsewhere at 7 months.

What if you bought a contract before the 2011 restrictions, and then buy a resale after with the same purchasers, use year, and resort - would that contract get the same membership id?

Yes, if they are titled exactly the same and in the same UY they will be under the same membership #. Direct or resale, even a different resort, doesn't matter.

The membership numbers would be the same, but the points bought after March 2011 would carry the restrictions.

Ok so I have my SSR 320 Aug UY, I add 50 BCV and 50 HH all titled the same all same Aug UY 11 months out I wouldn't have 420 to use I would only have the amount of each resort contract. Correct? So at what point can I combine them and use them together? 7 months I am guessing. So what is the benefit of the small contracts and why are they sold at a premium.

Unless you'll be trying to get different home resorts, you'd likely be increasing your cost by around $3K over just buying a single contract for no real reason. Unless you can find a private seller who's willing to help with a cheap closing or you're planning on multiple home resorts and are certain that's what you want, I'd suggest you buy all in 1 batch even if you have to wait or even if you have to buy a few less than you're thinking and save the money your current plan would cost you. There are always options to supplement points.

You can combine at 7 months.

If you later decide to cut back your holdings, you can sell a small contract instead of a 300 pointer and small contracts are easy to sell to anyone who needs a few more points.

You can always bank and/or borrow the small contract points doubling or tripling the points for home resort advantage every 2 or 3 years.

I think I've got it, so the points typically are so you don't have to borrow, bank as much. I assumed they were to gain an advantage using 11 month window to book sooner.

I've purchased my points as I need them. I have 4 contracts, two at Disney's Beach Club Villas and two at Disney's Old Key West, with one member number (ID) and one use year.

I thought I was only going to buy Beach Club Villas but the need for the bigger rooms, the grand villas, and the cheaper points made the purchases at Old Key West a necessity. Plus, my kids like it better since they have been going there since they were teenagers.

It can give you home resort advantage for that points at that resort. And, even small contracts can get you something. For example, a SV studio at BWV during F&W in October for 4 night trip over a weekend would only be 48 points. So, having just 50 points there would allow you to get that hard to book room at a very popular time.
