Wave phones and dining room assignments....

I have 2 completely unrelated questions.

1. Can someone give me the skinny on the wave phones? I know they're cell phones for use on the ships. Are there charges for phone calls and/or texts to other waves phones? I want my DD17 to carry one at all times while on the ship because I know we'll likely see very little of her during the day and want to be able to contact her. But if I know her, she'll meet a few friends and will be texting like crazy so I want to make sure that we're not hit with any surprise charges at the end of the cruise. If there's a fee, she won't be allowed to text anyone but me.

2. are you able to get your dining rotation information before boarding? If so, how far in advance? We sail in 11 days and I'm dying to know our rotation!

Thanks!

1. No charge for use in talking or texting. $250 if phone is lost or broken. My teen laughed, saying they were one of the cheapest phones she'd ever seen and they could outfit the entire deck 6 staterooms for $250. There are good and bad aspects to having kid carry phone.....

2.NO, you'll learn your rotation at embarkation when you get your KTTW. Assignments are made about 2 weeks before cruising.

1 - They a little taller than a cell phone - they are more like a thin corless phone that you can also txt. They also work on CC. They are silent and only vibrate, so make sure you don't carry it on a purse as you might not hear it. They ONLY work to talk to other wave phones or the phone in your room.

Your regular phone you want to turn to airplane mode as soon as you board and leave it like that until you disembark.

Anyone else find their wave phones to be totally unreliable on a recent cruise? I'm talking texts showing up hours or even a day later. Unable to reach another guest even when testing phones across a tabletop in Cabanas. If it weren't for the menacing $250 replacement fee I would have chucked mine overboard by Day 3! Just stopped carrying the damned thing altogether!

Day one, one of ours didn't work (fully charged but shut off). The concierge explained that the battery gets loose easily. He showed us how to pop the back off and redo the battery. Then press and hold the "end" button to turn it back on. Later in the trip I couldn't get texts to send to the wave phone that my DS had. Come to find out, his phone had shut down (loose battery) and he fixed the battery but didnt know how to "restart" it. Needless to say, I showed him! The goofy (hehehe) thing about these phones is how antiquated the text feature is! You have to press the number keys for each letter. It took me two days to figure out how to put a "space" between words, lol! (the zero key)

If the phone of the receiving party is off, then your text will not send

Hi,

Myself, DH and DD(13) at the time went on the Disney Dream April 2011 for Spring vacation. The aren't an iphone by any means, but they are still a phone, and it beats the old pager system available for kids clubs. I was happy to be able to call/text my tween even if only to touch base.

We are going on the Dream for Spring vacation this year. My DD (15) and her BFF(14) this time. With two teenage girls, any communication is better than no communication.

I thought it was awfully nice of Disney to start providing this on Dream. I think it shows understanding that cruisers would like to stay in contact, but really don't want to pay high cell rates.

There are 6 in our group and we are sailing on the Dream in March. How many people do they sit at one table? Just wondering if we would be at our own table or with other people since our group is the size of a normal table at most resturants.

The have tables that seat 4, 6 and 8.

You can also request your own table, through your TA. No guarantee, but with a group of 6 it should work.

Each dining team serves a 4 top, a 6 top, and an 8 top. Chances are, with 6, you will be at your own table. As above, you can call DCL and request this, to maybe be a little more sure that's what you get.
