Can you leave the Verandah door open, while in the room, for fresh air?

Yep. I wouldn't leave it open too long though. It can get a bit humid/muggy depending on the weather and then you'll be trying to balance it with the AC.

They ask you not to leave you veranda door open as this has an affect on the air conditioning in the rooms. If you do have it open, it is VERY hard to open your stateroom door and it also causes it to close very hard, so be careful if you do.

As mentioned above they do not want you to leave the verandah door open for any length of time...first it screws up the A/C and take it twice as long to cool the cabin down again and it creates a wind tunnel with the cabin door. if you try to open the cabin door with the verandah door open it can create such a force of wind that can slam the heavy cabin door. Last thing you want is to get your fingers slammed in a door.

We had ours opened all 4 days and nights last week, when we were in the room. Also, we did this in Sept. for our Canadian cruise.

It was not hot and humid luckily, I raised the A/C up the entire cruise.
To sleep with the door opened was so peaceful and wonderful.
Not something I can do at home often in South Florida.

Yes, be careful with the door it slams like crazy.

Our stateroom specifically instructed us on the first day to NOT leave the door to the balcony open because it supposedly messes up the air conditioning.

You can, but wouldn't recommend it. It gets really muggy in the room if you do. I did leave it open for a few minutes when our daughter was sick and we were trying to help her get her bearings. She had to make a quick dash back into the room as I figured so I did leave it open that time.

What is it about a sign on the verandah door stating to NOT leave it open or being told by a stateroom host NOT to leave it open is difficult to understand? Not sure if a couple of responses here are being sarcastic, but to encourage someone to not follow DCL's position on this saying to simply raise the A/C in the room because they enjoyed the fresh air is just another example of the sense of entitlement referenced in another thread. DCL isn't concerned with just the A/C in YOUR room. If many people do this, then it could overtax the system and cause the electrical power to go out.

In Lisa's defense here: You stated that you had the door open and the A/C "up" during the entire cruise. While maybe not worded delicately, Lisa was pointing out that it appeared you were flagrantly violating the rules.

I figured that it was something like that. There's lots of people in the DIS with many different cultures and ways if speaking that I've learned to not necessarily take things as they were written.

OP, to put it simply, the answer is no, Disney does not want to you to keep your veranda door open.

Yes, there is. DCL specifically says NOT to leave the door open. How hard is that to understand?

The AC systems on the classic ships are not like those in a typical US home. They work off a "set point" and the warmer/cooler dial give you 2-3 degrees of variance from that set point. If you need to have the set point adjusted, ask your stateroom host.

While I can't speak to what has worked for individuals, I know that there is a sign on the door asking that it not be kept open and that this instruction was reinforced by a verbal instruction from the host on day 1 along with the readon for the request. I figure that DCL knows their system better than any of us and that if they ask that we keep the door closed, this is the right thing to do.
