Pros and Cons of OKW

We are in the early stages of planning our next visit (yay!!) We will probably be 5 women so we want space and somewhere more adult oriented ( I know we're at Disney ) We were thinking OKW because the rooms are huge and if we get a 2 bedroom we will have 2 bathrooms. I realize that a 1 bedroom sleeeps 5 but nobody really wants to sleep in the fold out chair..What so y"all think?
Are there other options you would suggest?
What are the pros and cons of this resort? TIA

Julie

Love OKW but SSR may be a good choice too. SSR is more upscale, great spa and gym, an actual food court. Closest to DTD. What month will you be going?

okw rooms are much bigger than ssr. I liked the look of okw compared to ssr. More serene. My kids loved the sandcastle at the pool. Olivias is like a hidden gem and is Delicious.

OKW would be best if everyone wants to sleep in a bed instead of a fold out (and some don't mind sharing). The master bedroom has a King and the 2nd bedroom has two Queen beds. There is a fold out in the living room. So, at least 2 people will need to share.

If you're driving it's a good choice. If not, I'd avoid OKW. The place is just way too spread out. We learned this the heard way when we had to take a bus to get to the pool. There's also not really a QS restaurant there. I know they have the little one, but it's pretty bad and doesn't have very long hours.

We are staying in a 2 BR in May and have been several times before. We love OKW. We usually stay near the Hospitality House and have never had to wait very long for a bus. Olivia's is great for lunch or dinner, we've never been for breakfast.

I was under the impression OKW had some sort of quick service?? Have I been misinformed??? Thats so sad if true! I booked near HH and was really excited about it (and the low amount of points required....).

It's a counter service with outdoor seating.
The food is pretty basic, but good.

There is also a full service restaurant that is very good.

Some people do feel it is too spread out for them, but the farthest places are really only a 10 minute walk to HH. ( and we have been with 80+ year old women who are not the fastest walkers).
All buses stop at HH last, so it is easy to get a bus to get there.

We stayed at OKW last October for the first time and loved it! We had 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) in a one-bedroom and had tons of space. I do think you are smart to go with a 2-bedroom for the two bathrooms and more beds. Actually the pull-out chair looked more comfortable than the sofa bed. So if you end up doing 2 in the king and one in each of the queens, someone might be okay on the chair or sofabed.

We ate dinner and breakfast at Olivia's and loved both! OKW does have a CS, but it's an outdoor walk-up. The walk-up area is covered, but there isn't any indoor seating, just picnic tables outside. We didn't eat there at all.

We stayed in the Turtle Pond area and enjoyed the walk to the HH area. We did have a car, which we used most of the time, but the couple of times we used the bus it was fine (although getting back from DTD we had to stop at TL, which was a pain). We would have taken the boat if we had known.

I loved the atmosphere of OKW and would stay there again in a heartbeat!

we have stayed twice at OKW. enjoyed it both times!!

it has a great pool... but if you are in the back.. then it is quite a walk to get there.

I would try to get near HH if you want to be close to the food. :)

SSR 2 bedroom was great too!!

Have you checked into the 2 bedroom suites at the Beach Club? I'm not sure if they have them at a Non CL or not, but they would definitely accommodate the 5 of you. And...you would be a 5 min walk from Epcot and the Boardwalk would be right there. Lots of restaurant choices and I hear the pool area is fabulous ! Just seems like a better choice for a girlfriend trip :thumbsup2

Pros and cons are in the eye of the beholder. Some people like the quiet, remote location, others feel it is too far out of the way and not where the action is. Some like the relaxing style theming, others feel it doesn't feel Disney enough, and is just another Florida condo complex.

It does have a large footprint, but nothing is really that far a walk, and there are internal bus stops. There are also smaller pools, aside from the main one. Food wise, Olivia's is the only restaurant, and there is counter service near the Hospitality House and also near one of the quiet pools (Turtle Pond), but that one is more limited so far as hours dependng on the season.

Very few buildings have elevators, and stairs may be an issue for some.

Location in walking distance to any parks, but there is a boat to take you to Downtown Disney. Other destinations will require use of the bus service or your own vehicle.

I like OKW. If your looking for a similar resort I would suggest SSR.

What I like about SSR is that the rooms are all newer. The hotel is spread out nicely and has alot of nice pools etc.

It is also close to DTD where there are alot of adult things to do. Including shops, restaurants and bars.

Thanks so much for all the advice and input. I think I will definatlely look into both the Beach Club and if we do decide to stick with OKW then I will request a building close to HH...

Great summation.. Hits the nail on the head.... :thumbsup2
