Dining Solo in Palo

Hey everyone!

First off, I'm VERY excited about our Disney cruise in April I'm a single mom traveling with my 8, 5, and 3 year old.

I don't live in a town with any family, so I very seldom have any alone grown up time - no family sitters

Aside from having a fantastic vacation with my kiddos, I'm looking forward to a little me time while taking advantage of the Oceaneer's Club. We vacation at least twice a year, but always do everything together, so 1. Our dining options are limited to restaurants with children's menus, and 2. I very seldom dine solo.

Do you think it would be difficult to get a Brunch reservation for 1? Is it unusual to see solo diners? I don't want to stand out. When dining solo, I usually take a book to read to keep me company, but I really want to focus on the yummy food, and not lug a book.

It is no more difficult (or easy) to get a reservation for one than for two. Forget the book. The staff will fuss over you no end!

I've eaten solo at both Palo and Remy, and as kcashner said, the staff will fuss over you, talk to you, make sure you're doing well. However, I do like to take a book along, to read between courses. Now, of course, if you're doing brunch, there's not really "courses".

It's not at all unusual to see people dining alone there, and I think it's a perfect opportunity for your "me" time!

We had brunch last week on the Wonder and there was a woman eating alone. The waiter hooked his arm in her arm and walked with her as she made her selections and gave her alot of attention, but not so much that it would have been uncomfortable. Previously I would have thought I would not want to dine alone, but after seeing how well she was treated and how the staff really went out of their way to engage her, I would dine in Palo alone.

Thank You for this post. I am sailing on he Magic for Easter with my dd(16) and she has been insisting that I go to Palo and have me time. I felt awkward going solo. Now I am comfortable. This is great.

Another suggestion is to find another single on your cruise meet and arrange to dine at Palo together.

Agree with this. Also, there's often married women who will also go with you without their husbands just for an additional opportunity to go.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I'm traveling with my daughters also and I'm a single parent. I plan to book Palo and a spa day just for me. I don't think we'll get out in Nassau so I plan on catching a movie, pool, spa, and Palo. And let the girls enjoy the club that day.

You will love it! I have cruised twice alone with my DD (and looking forward to the third!). I have done Palo both times for dinner and brunch. I didnt feel uncomfortable by myself at all and really enjoyed it.

But, I also agree with meeting others on your cruise meet that might enjoy going with you if you want. Last year I met another single mom on the cruise meet thread and we enjoyed both dinner and brunch together.

PS - the spa is great too! Have a great time.

Just returned from the Magic cruising solo.

Went to Palo and it was fabulous!! Being there as a single person, the staff takes extra special care of you, talks to you lots (if you wish). I also brought a book, but didn't read too much. Spoke with the staff, and enjoyed just sitting and relaxing.

Don't be worried about being solo. It's a fantastic time and definitely not something to miss!!

I'm super excited. I booked an early Palo Dinner one night. We have the 2nd seating for dinner, so I can still hang with them for dinner that night, and a Palo Brunch at 12:30 the following day.

I also booked an Alone Time package at the Spa. I think I may enjoy the cruise more that my kiddos

You will love the alone time. I have done that on both cruises on the Magic. So relaxing! The first time I was in the hot tub watching as we pulled out of Key West - one of my favorite memories

I am disappointed to hear that on the newer ships, they only offer the Villas for couples and not for singles I was looking forward to doing it again on the Fantasy.

I just got off the Fantasy yesterday. I did both brunches & both dinners at Palo and Remy alonr since i was sailing solo. All 4 were amazing. The food is so good and the servers and managers were so friendly and came over to talk often which I appreciated the company and sharing stories of our international travels. I would never hesitate to book Palo or Remy alone.
