Thoughts on Flying Fish?

We were debating on going to Flying Fish over at the boardwalk but I have been hearing mixed things. Any opinions would help. Thanks!

Flying Fish is one of my favorite restaurants on the dining plan. We are usually adults only and prefer bluezoo at the Dolphin but for family dining or for dining plan dining, Flying Fish has good food. I've dined here a half a dozen times in recent years, the most recent was Christmas Day last month.

I've always been satisfied with the food. While not as creative as bluezoo, I think they do a decent job here. The snapper is good and I've enjoyed the tuna entrees also. The cheese plate is one of my favorites at Disney. I'm not a dessert eater so I can't speak for those.

The service here can be a bit spotty, not always, but sometimes. And the restaurant is noisy. Definitely not a pick for a romantic meal. The tables are close and the acoustics in there echo. Also, there's an open kitchen with bar seating which adds to the noise. For our meal last month we were seated in the middle of the restaurant and I could hear the conversations of the parties seated on either sides of us.

We are also a group of adults whose first choice is bluezoo especially because we don't do the dining plan. Our one meal at Flying Fish was excellent! From appetizers to dessert, we enjoyed everything. The only drawback is the tables are very close and the table next to us overheard our conversations and ended up joining in! We do like the quieter, upscale feel of bluezoo.

While we also like bluezoo a bit better, FF is tied for tops when it comes to Signatures on the dining plans (Citricos is the other restaurant that tops our list, they are 1 and 1A for us).

We have enjoyed several dinners there and have also done the Chef's Wine Tasting Dinner which was a great meal as well. We have never had a bad meal and luckily any server we have had has been great.

FF is at the top of my list of restaurants at WDW. It is fantastic, I think, for food quality, preparation, and service.

I agree with the PPs that the food is wonderful. I also underscore that it is very loud. Its the loudest TS on property in my opinion. However, I wouldn't let that stop you from giving it a try.

We can't say enough good things about the special Chef's selection wine dinner at the "Chef's counter" at the FF.

It's our new “date night” location in WDW. We used to go to Bistro de Paris, but after two less than memorable meals (actually horrible) we decided on the Flying Fish and have not looked back! The food, wine and service were impeccable.

I know the cost isn’t for everyone, but for a special occasion they truly make you feel special! I can only hope the regular menu is as good, but with this event as an evening for us we may never make it back for a family dinner.

We had a very good meal here the one time we tried it; especially the appetizers...they were amazing! If you go here on the DDP, do yourself a favor and spend a little OOP to sample some appies. The mussels were the best we have ever had, and we eat a lot of mussels. I didn't care for the signature snapper dish...I failed to see how the veal glace went with the snapper? But others love it, so maybe it was just me. For a party of 4, we had 2 great entrees (steak, scallops), one very good (seasonal salmon) and one meh (snapper). Desserts were all very good. It was not our favorite signature restaurant on property, but not our least favorite, either.

We have never been to Blue Zoo...

FF was the best meal we had at Disney hands down. We had eaten in the majority of all signature places and this one was by far the best. The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing. Can't wait to go back in May.

We did the Chef's Wine Tasting Dinner on our last trip (I had proposed to my fiancee at the beginning of our trip and this was one of the special dinners I had planned to celebrate a bit). We had no intention of eating off the regular menu durring the trip. But I did miss having a few things off the regular menu, mainly the mussels and Caramelized Banana Napoleon. So, when our flight home got cancelled and we had to stay a few extra days at WDW (poor us, right?), we ended up adding a dinner off the regular menu at FF just to get our fix.

We actually like FF better than Bluezoo, but I would recommend both. We had one bad meal at FF, but probably the 5 or 6 other times we've eaten there, it was the best meal on that trip. Agree about their signature potato wrapped snapper not actually being that special, they have a lot of other things on the menu that are really killer and much better. Love their tuna rare, pork tenderloin is excellent, have had many other great fish dishes, and oddly enough, their steak may be the best steak in WDW. (Disclaimer: have not tried Shula's yet.)

We ate there on our honeymoon and they gave us free champagne, all kinds of free appetizers, and a free dessert. They made a big deal about us being newlyweds so it holds special memories for us. It's one of my favorite not just because the food was so delicious, but because it was a really enjoyable experience. None of the other places we ate that trip was as generous as FF.

My parents have been huge FF fans for years but for some reason, I never had the urge to go there. We finally decided to give it a whirl in 2011 and I was pleasantly surprised! The food and service was very, very good. I had the scallops over risotto with pancetta cracklins and it was so good! For dessert we got the trio of Boardwalk treats, which was cute and tasty.

I will say the atmosphere is not my favorite of the signatures. I found it to be very loud and the decor didn't wow me.

It is on my "must do" list after our last meal there. It joins Via Napoli and Raglan Road on it. The food and service were both top notch.

The Flying Fish is very popular here, but it is not one of my favorite Signature restaurants. It just seems like something is not quite right every time I have eaten there. Either I don't care for the entree or the vegetable accompaniments are wooden and inedible. I also have an issue not directly connected with the food. The last time I was there, May 2012, the bathroom was filthy. It does share a bathroom with another restaurant, but the condition was shameful. I complained to the desk at the Flying Fish and they said there was nothing they could do because the cleaning department would not pick up their phone. It is the only restaurant at WDW that I have had this problem with. For me, this really affects my overall enjoyment of a restaurant.

It's one of my top Signature restaurants at WDW. We eat there every trip.

They have a # of wine "flights" that Mrs U enjoys very much. Their char-crusted NY strip is among the best steaks on property.

It's been too long since we were there last. It's on our list for our next trip. We have had so many wonderful meals at Disney we always want to try something new each time. We still have so many on our list yet to do. We our skipping the next on our list to go back it was that good.

My wife and I had such a wonderful evening at the Boardwalk that night. Our meal, the service was incredible (always there when needed but never hovering) and the Boardwalks ambiance was so incredible. Upon our return I researched DVC membership and purchased a contract at the Boardwalk Villa.

We've had dinner several times at Flying Fish and really love it. The food is delicious and the service is, hands down, the absolute best in WDW in our experience. Each time we have dined here, the servers always do a little something extra, are very attentive (without being annoying) and nothing is a problem.

We love FF Our favorite place to sit is at the counter by the open kitchen area. It's entertaining and sometimes some of the chefs will send a sample your way - this is how I first tasted mussels some years ago - would never touch them before but I forced myself to try them because I didn't want the chef to feel bad and boy what a pleasant surprise I was in for. The amazing thing about it, is to this day they are still my favorite ANYWHERE I have them.
