Luggage Question?

This has probably been answered but I haven't found it yet. If we take alternate transportation to the Port from MCO, what happens with luggage? I know that with DCL ground transportation, they take care of it and it shows up in your cabin. With another transporation company, do you take the luggage to your cabin? Or check it when you board and then it shows up later? Thanks in advance for any help. :)

In addition to OP's question, I forgot what the weight limit is on DCL per person.

I already noted the DCL carryon is smaller than SouthWest's dimensions.

You will arrive at the terminal and off load your luggage there with a porter (you should tip). They ensure that it is placed on board and will arrive at your cabin door by 5pm. You can carry small luggage on with you, but you must maintain your carry-on luggage until the rooms are available around 1:30 pm. It needs to be able to pass through the e-ray machine. My DW carries on her make up bag only.

no enforced weight limit that I know of.

Thank you. That's why I couldn't remember reading it.

I would prefer to use my carryon because it has wheels and I can pack the kid's first day/swimsuit+clothes in it. It's under SW's limit but larger than DCL's limit... Will they make me check it? IOW, how strict are they?

I would use a couple of backbacks for the swim stuff. everyone can carry one on. Too easy. Place all the bags in one bag to bring home. by the way, you can use the backpacks for getting off the ship if you are like us and place your luggage outside your door. It must go thru their machines or it will be checked. Needs to be a really small suitcase with wheels. You won't go wrong with the backpack IMHO.

Thank you so much. Trying to decide the transportation issue with 18 people in the group. This helps a lot. :)

Great idea, thank you!

If you guys are new to cruising DCL, I have started a Pre-Trip Report called "Magic our way to WDW". Most of the info will be the same for Port Canaveral other than the parking situation where at PC they have their own lot. just thought i would share.

Are all 18 coming from the same place or meeting up at MCO or a hotel at about the same time? If you are able to arrange a single pick up place (or even 2), the cheapest system would be to contact one of the big limo companies that can arrange a bus type vehicle. They can even supply a second luggage trailer or vehicle if needed. They will take you to the passenger unloading area where your luggage will be handed off to the porters.

We had a group about that size going from WDW Port Orleans Riverside to Port Canaveral. We used Happy Limo, which sent two large vans, and a luggage trailer. Worked out fine, and much cheaper than DCL transfers.

Another part of the extended family (same cruise) weren't able to do WDW before the cruise so they took Happy Limo to Cocoa Beach from the airport.

Not to say Happy Limo is the only service in town. DH and I have also used Tiffany Town Car and they were fine.

That's who I was thinking of using, Happy Limo. I've seen good reviews on this forum for them. We are all flying together so we can just hop on the transport together. My biggest fear was using alternate transporation, we'd have to schlep the luggage everywhere on the ship. Thanks so much for all the help you've given me.
