Which location at Poly?

I've tried to find the answer by searching, but I'm still confused! We're about to book two rooms at the Poly for early March. Normally I would be planning much farther ahead, but extenuating circumstances made this trip a now or not-for-way-too-long proposition!

We'll be a grandmother and aunt in one room, and a mom, dad, 4 yr old boy, and 11 month old girl in the other. We'll be using a big double stroller for the kids. We're choosing the Poly for convenient access to the monorail and TTC and a lagoon view to be able to see the electrical show from our room. If we could see the fireworks, too, that would be ideal. We must have a balcony to have somewhere to sit while the kids fall asleep!!!

If our number one priority is a room with a balcony that has easy access to the parks with our monster stroller, and our second priority is the view of the lagoon light show and fireworks from our room, which building and which category of room should we request? We're willing to spring for a lagoon room, but I think that's as far as we're willing to go up the scale.

Thanks in advance for your help!

location requests are simply that, requests, no guarantees. You will be booking a room catagory. No buildings are guaranteed with the exception of the Concierge bldg. First floor rooms all have patios, third floor rooms have balconies. Second floor rooms don't have balconies. Lagoon view rooms do not guarantee view of fireworks, for that you would need theme park view. I plugged in the first week of March for availability, lagoon view rooms are over $700 per night room only for each room. I believe that MArch is considered peak season now due to college spring breaks, so you may run into difficulty booking anything with a discount.

You may want to look at tikiman's website to get full details on rooms, room category locations, etc. Just google Tiki Pages. Under planning, click "which longhouse"? you will get a lot of detailed information there.

If you want a view of the Lagoon, you have to book Lagoon View. If you want fireworks, you would have to book Theme Park View.

Just know, most of the longhouses with Lagoon Views are fairly far from the main building - in your situation, I would request Tuvalu, balcony. The first floors have patios, if that makes any difference. We had a patio in Hawaii when we stayed with our 1 year old and loved just being able to walk out the door onto the beach!

We always ask for Tahiti longhouse at the POLY. All the rooms in Tahiti have balconies, except for the ground floor which has a patio. It is close to the walkway to the TTC monorail and on the beach. You can get MK views in Tahiti for a extra price but we always just get the garden-view and walk out onto the beach to view them.
It is not that close to the dining options but we don't eat every meal there and we don't do the cups so that's not a problem for us.

Whoa, some inaccuracies there. Some buildings do have second look balconies and or lagoon view Tahiti is the only building that way. The building is large enough that a request for Tahiti is likely to be met.

All lagoon view rooms can see the fireworks, they are above the castle and the castle is relatively small from there. The castle view may be somewhat obstructed but that's just the castle not the entire fireworks are. Even at that you can see the lower fireworks.

You will be able to see the fireworks and the Electric Water pageant from any LV room. We've had both LV and TPV over the last 20 odd years and that's the way it is.

And I have to add a comment about a pp statement about being far from the main building, the GCH. There is no such thing as very far away at the Poly, it is compact resort in reality made to feel big by some clever landscaping including curving intersecting paths. The GCH is 3-5 minutes from the furthest buildings at normal walking pace (yes I've measured it numerous times) and you can walk across the entire property in 5-7. So don't let distance entire the decision process at all.

So, Polydweller, if I get a lagoon view room in any building it will have a balcony, and we will be able to see the lagoon electrical show (don't know what that's officially called) and the fireworks? If that's so, and the walk times to transportation are not substantially different, I will just book a lagoon view and be done with it. Is there any building you would recommend? Should I be concerned about the fact that there will be construction at the Poly during our visit (March 2-9)? I could come a week later and stay at the Contemporary. I just like the idea of the theming at the Poly for my husband and kids' first trip.

I don't want to answer for polydweller, nor am I an expert on the poly, but each individual longhouse is different. Some have balconies on 2nd level others do not...I know Samoa, Rarotonga, tuvalu, fiji doesn't. Tokelau, Rapa Nui,tahiti, does. I can't remember if Aotearoa does (but I think so). Hawaii is CL (club level) Hope this helps.

Like a pp stated I would get on tikiman pages website. He has good descriptions and excellent reviews of each longhouse as well as the overall resort. Good luck!

No as I said only some buildings at the Poly have second floor balconies. They are the newest one's on the east side. Tahiti is the only one with lagoon view and balconies on the east side. It also has the largest rooms 476 sq ft vs other buildings 415 sq ft. For lagoon view non-club level it's the recommended building.

Actually, Tahiti has some major (at least for me) transportation advantages. It is 3 minutes from the TTC, the closest LV building to the TTC. From there you have the options of express monorail to MK, ferry to MK or monorail to Epcot. Of, course the launch, and resort monorail are 3 minutes the other way.

As far as construction, it really isn't construction. It's room refreshes, nothing major, just changing the decoration and adding second sinks in older building rooms. There may be some equipment around but nothing like if this was external repairs. Personally, I didn't find the last major refurb an issue and this should be less.

The refreshes will be ongoing building by building until the end of August. Tahiti is scheduled to start July 14th so nothing to worry about there. The two small buildings being done at the time of your are out of the way and you may not even notice.

There may be work on the main pool at that time but it will be finished by the week after your time frame. If the pool is important then I would delay the one week you suggest.

Agree with above poster. Check out the tikiman website for a map of all longhouses and their room categories. There is also a map of the distance between the longhouses and the lobby, TTC and pool.

We stayed garden view 1st floor. The 1st floor patio's are huge and wonderful for extra adult space. It was really easy to walk out of the patio door to get to Captain Cooks.

We love the Poly and hope you do to!

The Poly is awesome! Rather than request a particular longhouse, consider stating your room request just as you stated above on the forum. That will give the folks that assign your room more flexibility and there should be (hopefully) some longhouse that has a room with the type of access you desire, as well as a balcony with a view of the fireworks. Ditto on Tikiman's website. He's the place if you want info on the Poly.

Thank you all for your advice! I did go to Tikiman's website and concurred with those of you who suggested Tahiti. When I booked, I described what I wanted, as a PP suggested, and the person said, "We'll, you'll want to be in Tahiti." You were right!!! I paid in full for March 2-9. Although it's all over the place that the pool will be closed, the reservation person had no note of that, so it may or may not be. I'm not too worried about it. I've never been to Disney with little children, only as a little child, but I've never swum in a Disney pool! We always have spent all our time at the parks or napping. My guess is that will be true this trip, too. Thanks again for your help!
