Since I've seen the movie and know the quote, I probably wouldn't think much of it.

But if I had not seen the movie, didn't realize it was a well-known quote, was on an airplane with the guy wearing it, and did take time to read the shirt? Yeah, I might at least think twice about it.

Wearing a shirt that says "Prepare to die" onto an airplane = bad idea.

I don't really look that closely at people's shirts. I've heard of the movie so I get this one, but even if not it's just a slogan on a shirt. So what?
But I don't see why they couldn't let him wear it inside out thou.

I love that movie so I would have thought the shirt was rather amusing, but I guess with how everything in the world is today I can understand why it could make someone uncomfortable.

The entire quote is a pop culture classic, whether or not someone has seen the movie. I think 'a number of passengers' made a mountain out of a molehill.

What does that even mean? That because it is, per you, a "pop culture classic", that everyone SHOULD be familiar with it, whether or not they've seen the movie? I guess I'm just not up on pop culture, because I would have no idea what it meant.

I also don't get where you get the impression that a mountain was made out of a molehill. All we have from the story is that the shirt wearer is relaying what the flight attendant supposedly said, and that she was relaying what the passengers supposedly said to her. The fact that she never returned with another shirt, and despite the fact that he continued to wear it, it appears no passengers had a stroke, heart attack, or panic attack, or refused to fly with the wearer, so I'm guessing that means no one was overly distraught about it. They probably just didn't "get" the T-shirt and simply brought it to the attention of the flight attendant.

This is much ado about nothing, and I think it's the wearer who is more into making a mountain out of a molehill, because everything makes "news" these days; this is his 15 minutes of fame. Who put the story out? Sounds like HE did.

The creator of the shirt said on Twitter that he sold the shirt to Mullins at a sci-fi convention. “We made this shirt in little Wellington New Zealand. This guy has made us famous for one day!” @VerboomLeftBank tweeted.

Yeah, it all sounds so spontaneous. I'd be willing to bet it was all concocted ahead of time. Either he knew someone would question it, or he just created the story. __________________

DH has that shirt- though the " name tag" is smaller- it's the size of the actual sticky tags - about 3"x5". DH has worn that shirt on an airplane multiple times, never had any issues, though now I've probably jinxed that!!

They have a very similar one at Kohl's. The logo is smaller and on the chest where a name tag would be.

The guy should've responded "As you wish!" And whipped it off!

My husband has that shirt and we randomly quote that movie all the time so we would have laughed and thought nothing of it.
