1st Time Disney Magic - Lots of Questions

Our first cruise is a few weeks away. I have lots of questions about a lot of different topics. I've read FAQ's, searched the web and the boards but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Hoping someone is able to provide guidance.

Nursery
We are in the process of potty training DS. He is doing great. He will tell you he has to use the potty but still can’t pull down his pants or wipe. He currently wears underpants except for nap or bedtime.
  • When I take him to the nursery will there be an issue if he has on underpants?
  • Is there a bathroom or just changing tables?
  • If he has an accident and we send extra clothes will they change him or would we need to come back to change him?
  • We are considering a pull-up just in case he isn’t comfortable telling someone he as to go. Will they change a pull-up like a diaper?
  • What types of things do you bring with your child?
  • The charge is $6 an hour. Do they round to the nearest hour or do they break the cost into halves?

On Board Credit
I received an on board credit by booking through a travel agent.
  • If we don’t use the entire credit could remaining funds be used toward tips?
  • If we add a credit card to our account will the on board credit be used first?
  • Are there restrictions for what the on board credit can be used for?

In-Room Entertainment
  • I have read there is a TV in the room but that it has limited channels. What channels/programming are available?
  • Are there DVD players in the room?
  • Are there DVD rentals?
  • My boys are big readers. Is there a library on the ship or would we need to bring books from home?
  • Do people bring toys from home?

Room Service
Looking at information/menu online I see coffee, tea, juice, milk and chocolate milk are available on the breakfast menu.
  • Is there an extra fee for these beverages or are they free?
  • Can you only order them during breakfast or are they available all day?

I realize this is a huge list. I thought it was best to put them all into one thread rather than a bunch of threads. :lovestruc Thank you.

On your onboard account any charges are first taken out of your OBCs, then charged to your CC once the OBCs are used up. OBC is just like cash, but you don't get any you don't use back.

In-Room Entertainment
  • I have read there is a TV in the room but that it has limited channels. What channels/programming are available? There are channels that show classic Disney movies, new Disney movies, Disney cartoons, Sports (ESPN mostly), there are like 10 or 12 channels that have entertainment on them. As well as shopping info for the ports, ships information, view from the onboard camera.
  • Are there DVD players in the room? No
  • Are there DVD rentals? No
  • My boys are big readers. Is there a library on the ship or would we need to bring books from home? No libraries on DCL
  • Do people bring toys from home?

Room Service
Looking at information/menu online I see coffee, tea, juice, milk and chocolate milk are available on the breakfast menu.
  • Is there an extra fee for these beverages or are they free? Coffe, tea, jice, milk, chocolate milk are included in your cruise fare (as is room service). The only beverages from room service you pay for are alcoholic ones and sodas.
  • Can you only order them during breakfast or are they available all day?
Room service is 24/7

I realize this is a huge list. I thought it was best to put them all into one thread rather than a bunch of threads. :lovestruc Thank you.

Do you pay for sodas you have with meals? I read that cokes are free in certain places. I just haven't figured out which places yet.

Sodas are included in your cruise fare from the drink station on the pool deck, and at meals. Sodas from room service, poolside servers, and in the lounges have a cost.

So does this mean they could be used for tips at the end of your cruise? If you have a lot left can you leave more than the recommended tip amount so your OBC doesn't go to waste and the server staff gets more than usual?

When you get to a certain level of charges in your onboard account (not sure, I think it's $300 or $500), your account charges will be paid, first out of whatever OBC you have, and once the OBC is used up it will be charged to your credit card.

In the event that you get to the end of your cruise, and you still have unused OBC, you can go to Guest Services and adjust your tips, so the OBC will be used up, if you wish. I will point out that you want to do this NOT on the last night.

Your child can be in underwear and tell CMs he needs to potty. They will change any kind of diaper. They round fees to the nearest hour, but you can pick up early and they will charge you only for what you use (say you reserve 3 hours, but you pick up at 2 hours).

I usually leave a diaper bag w/clothes, juice, snacks.

When you "drop" off your child, you can't walk him in. You have to hand him over the door railing gate thing. Just FYI, b/c we were telling DD that we'll walk her in and sit her down, etc. No parents can be in the nursery room.

Have fun!

Yes, you can use your OBC for tips. And if you have any let, you can go to GS and increase the tips so it doesn't go to waste.

When "spending" your onboard account, they use first any onboard credit, then any "funny money" like gift cards, and finally charge any remaining balance to your credit card.
