The Official Expedition Everest 2013 Thread

I decided not to get the Princess Dooney and Bourke purse I was saving for and put that money towards registering the whole family (except for the toddler!) for EE. I'm getting excited! My 13 year old son is less than enthused, but I think he'll love it when we're there. Yay!!

Great plan! See you there!!

So, so far who else has registered?

I was wondering if someone who has done a Disney race before has possibly been in the same situation as I am and had some tips I could check out.

My SO and I have been walking since last summer. The goal was to loose some weight and get in shape but it was also a great time for us to have some alone time to talk. We have succeeded with all of that so this year, we decided we needed something new to work towards to keep us going and stay motivated.

I read about this run last week and it sounded like a perfect goal for us to work towards. Yes, it will be expensive but we love Disney and this would be something new we could experience there. Now we can also increase our workouts by giving some running a try.

OK, here is our problem. We would be traveling down there with our 11 year old son who has ZERO desire to participate in the race and as much as we love him, we really wanted this to be for us to do alone. Unfortunately, that leaves us with the problem of what to do with him when we are doing the run. We have no one that can go down there with us. I'm sure Disney has lists of babysitters that we can hire to sit in the room with him or if we stayed at one of the hotels with a kids club but we really wanted him to come with us to the party after the race and have no clue as to how we would get him there. Has anyone else been in this situation? If so please tell me what you did.

That's a tough one. This race in May will be my 5th runDisney 5K. I have two kids, and this is actually the first time one of them will run with me-- DS13. My DD11 wants no part of it. In the past, my DH had to stay home and I did the races solo (which was a great Mom getaway). But I hear that's not what you two want to do. I don't want to discourage you, and hopefully others will have better ideas, but short of someone coming with you, I don't know how he can participate in the party. The babysitter or kids club is a great option for the race itself, but I seriously doubt a babysitter would be allowed due to liability issues to escort him via Disney transportation to the race party. Also, these races can be really crowded, and finding each other could be a challenge (not impossible, just something you would need to plan ahead for). I'm not sure if you're driving or flying, or what type of room you'll be staying in, or other cost/logistical details, but is there an older cousin maybe (16+ or so) who you could bring down with you? That may be cost prohibitive, but if you did, you would have someone who could hang out as a spectator until you finish the race. Just some initial thoughts. I'll keep thinking though!

Congrats on the two of you reaching your goals!!

I'm running with my DS13 also! But he's thrilled. It's an excuse for him to get to go to Disney with just me without DH and DD11! He's like his Mama, he'll do just about anything for a trip to Disney!

Thanks Mamacrush.

Unfortunately the only relative we have is my daughter but she has college finals that week and can't get down there with us.

If you come up with any ideas, just post them :)

Wow i just stumbled upon this thread. I ran the race last year, i would've thought i would get notified for the next race :confused

Just registered with my DD12, we are Team Seize the Day (Newsies Fans here) very excited!!

Hubby, DD9 and I are registered!!! You guys are clever with team names...we drew a blank and just used our last name...ah well! Thinking about making tutus. Anyone else dressing special?

Still debating on registering, if we do, my fiancee and me would be team "Maid in France". We would both be wearing french maid costumes.

For those of you that have done this race in the past...

MUST you complete the scavenger hunt after you do the 5k or can you just do the 5k? My DS9 is a first timer and it will be late....not sure if he'll make it through both things. Plus my DD7 will be waiting with my DH.

So super excited!!! My husband and four of our friends are thinking about doing this. I have never done a 5k before... and am so out of shape! Ugh!!! I'm hoping we can get our plans, money, and bodies in shape soon! ;) I AM SO EXCITED!!! It's a long way to travel for a 5k, I know... I live in Maine! We are heading to a wedding in VA, so we thought it wasn't "that" much further! ha ha!

I think u have to do both to get them medal. I know last year...until u got that last clue other wouldn't let u finish....however the staff is VERY helpful with the clues and answers. The 5K felt longer than the scavenger part.

That was my experience also. And the medal is SO worth it! Adrenaline may carry her through!

I think that's awesome!! A trip to Disney is always fun, but when combining it with something like this, it's extra special!

Yep, you ave to turn in the correct final answer to cross the finish. But if you ask nicely for help and look desperate, the CMs will just tell you the answers. Trust me. ;)

Thanks everyone! My son is insisting he's up for it so I think we'll be ok. Plus, like some said, I think the adrenaline will carry both of us through! :-)

I can't wait to go!!!

I have been wanting to do this ... my son turns 7 on May 3rd ... he is athletic and I pretend to be (lost 65 lbs this year soooo....) why not do the
5K -- is there an age cut off (is 7 too young>>>>) --- I saw that there is a Family Edition at WDW Sports at 11 am .... IDK what that is really about ... I know he would love the individual kid races, too .... any advice would be greatly appreciate d..... and yes, those clues would be impossible to figure out unless I had internet access :p
