Grand Floridian DVC Info, Speculation, and Update Thread - Part 1!

I am really hoping that the 1-BDR Villas sleep 5 like Jambo/Kidani, BLT and OKW. Would love to stay at some of the other resorts with Villas, but would have to jump to a 2-BDR for 5 people--so expensive. Anyone know what the room configuration for the GF Villas will be? Have stayed GF standard room. Would love to stay there with more space.:goodvibes

I think the DVC Resorts board would be a better home for this thread, so I'm going to move it over there. :)

Nice thread, thanks for getting it going. Not planning to add on any, but hopefully we'll have some luck with a seven-month booking.

I'm so ready to purchase here once it opens up.

I was too....but now I am leaning towards BLT resale. I just am having a hard time justifying the price difference. If they would have started selling GF last month I would have bought. They took to long and I have had time to think and when I can get a BLT resale for $80 or close to it....I can't bring myself to pay an additional $60 - $85 a point for GF.

The other part I am having a hard time with is not being able to walk to MK from GF. I REALLY like that about BLT. I love the GF, but prudence is prevailing as of today.

Would be amazing if this opened in time for our early September visit, but I won't hold my breath :rotfl:

This is a great thread! I'm so excited for the villas at GF!! We would like to add on here as long as the price isn't too crazy. ;)

We were at WDW for Xmas and took a look at the construction & couldn't believe how much has gotten done since our last visit.

3 different DVC CM's (take this with a grain of salt) told me on 3 seperate occasions that the sales center at SSR is currently constructing the GFV models. So, I'm hoping on our trip in Aug we can view some of the models & possibly purchase then.

If the GFV are suppose to open by the fall/winter of 2013, when will they start selling points?

What an eyesore!! So close to the Beach Pool, and will kill the view from the beach. Plus it will make the pools packed at the GF. Wish it was never built.
But money talks.

Here are some of my thoughts:

AKL had a occupancy issue so converting rooms was a no brainier. There is also a timeshare law where the developer can not start selling until a certain percentage of the resort is completed. Converting rooms enabled Disney to start selling quickly and making money while they built the real resort Kidani.

Club level was already on the 5th and 6th floor at AKL. When DVD took over that area, the AKL club level rooms were moved to the 4th floor and the lounge stayed on the 6th. The views from the 10, 6th floor rooms are so poor, DVC got them.

My issue with club level is that Disney made the money selling the extra points but the DVC owners fund club level with their yearly dues.

If DVD can make money by selling club level at GFV, they will do it.

GFV may be delayed as DVD gets their 3rd executive for the project. Each wants to put their personal touch on the project.

The views from GFV don't seem to be the greatest. The MK will be blocked by the GF, there is a island looking West, and the Poly and wedding pavilion looking South. East is the parking lot. (I'm guessing on the directions).

:earsboy: Bill

and it looks to me that some of the rooms will face the monorail side, what do you think of that view, it looks too close to the monorail to me.

I can't even properly communicate how close a few rooms - on the angle - are to the monorail!!! :rotfl2: One corner room seems like ongoing special effects - to watch the monorail swing on by!

At first I thought "Wow, I would LOVE that!". :goodvibes

A couple of more times around the loop on my vacation - my brain kicked in ;)and I thought "umm maybe not!". :lmao: I'm sure any movement or action in that one room would become the special effects in reverse! Laughing. Loudly.

It's CLOSE. :goodvibes

Never stayed at GF, will there be any reason to use the POLY boat launch instead of the GF boat launch? POLY seems about the same distance anyway.

EX you may see the boat going by to POLY so you can walk over and get right on? Or if at MK-do they always share?

Or is the monorail always better/faster?

I think the close monorail view is going to be a draw for families whose kids are train and monorail enthusiasts. I agree though after the 200th time it rumbles by it could get very old for adults (myself excluded)

As I remember DVD has started selling in FL when the main structure is up and the roof is on. I am guessing that with mechanical rough in and some windows that is close to 50%.

I am sticking by my sales by the end of the month idea, although with the leadership change I am getting a little doubtful

Those rooms are close enough to the monorail to be a stop. That'd be a pretty interesting booking category.

I just looked at Google Maps and sure enough, it looks like the view of the Magic Kingdom will be blocked by the GF itself. How odd. I'm sure they are going to charge mountains of points for those units and they don't even have decent views.

Some years back we stayed at the Polynesian Resort and had a "monorail view" room. With the balcony door shut you didn't hear it at all.
