Great update with so many lovely photos!

I love Crystal Palace, especially early ADR breakfasts there so that we get that quiet time on Main Street before :goodvibes

Awesome start to the day!! Even with the meltdown, it seems like you guys had a great morning!! Love those pics of Main St and the castle!!

Yeah, the meltdown was just a small bump in the road to a really great morning. I think it was probably our best day of the entire vacation! Lots of cute character interactions, and playing around MK. I can't wait to share it all, but it will probably take a LOT of posts to get through his birthday!!

Thanks Emma! I have been addicted to those early park entrances since doing it for the KTTK tour we shared with you in '09. Now that we have DS, breakfast is the way to do it. :thumbsup2 I definitely don't mind it though, we have had 2 great breakfasts at Crystal Palace the last couple of trips! The food & character interactions have been wonderful, and you just can't beat that time in MK before it gets crowded for the day. :goodvibes

That was really such a great update!

First of all you guys are troopers for getting there so early - in the dark. Love it. What a great shot of the train!

Then you ended up with wonderful early morning PP pics and that picture of you on Main Street is awesome!

I was just thinking how great Paxton was doing with the characters and then *bam* meltdown. Poor little guy! I am glad his awesome birthday cupcake made everything right again.

Puffed french toast = :cloud9:

Nice pictures! Too bad about the Tigger meltdown. I was never a big Pooh fan, but DD likes seeing the characters here. Crystal Palace has been our one constant on every trip we've taken going back to 1997 - before it was a character buffet, with the exception of our April 2010 mini-trip. We tend to mix it up what meal, though...though since I found out the frittata is not available at dinner, I am not so keen on THAT meal.

I think next year (edit: oops, THIS year :cool1:) we will end up taking on a CP breakfast again. We've only done breakfast once, in 2009. I'm not a big fan of TS breakfasts as (1) least efficient use of DDP (2) loss of prime park time and (3) I fell more ripped off at paying Disney prices for bacon and eggs than most lunch/dinner choices. That said, We may try it anyways.

I do like all the cool pumpkins that have out. I also really like your photopass photo the *other* way down main street. The worst part of being a frequent WDW guest is the *same old pictures* so it's always cool when you can get a photopass photographer that mixes it up. Last trip, we got a picture on the bridge to Adventureland. Just something different.

What a great breakfast to celebrate your DS's birthday! Love the cupcake pictures the best!

Your posts look funny without the Paxton avatar. :rotfl:

Luckily, I'll spare you the suspense, it was a beautiful day to celebrate a birthday in the Magic Kingdom!
Rain or not, it is always a beautiful day to celebrate a birthday there.:thumbsup2

I love the fact that you guys were able to get into the park and get some good pictures before the crowds arrived. I seriously want to do this breakfast sometime, but it never seems to work out. It seems like we're cursed. Every time we have an ADR something seems to change in their schedule or ours. :headache: I always love some good french toast, so I've got to try it sometime.

I'm glad you enjoyed your breakfast, and Paxton at least got to see Tigger again after he calmed down. I guess his minor meltdown when Tigger first got there is understandable. It isn't called the terrible twos for nothing. :lmao::rotfl2:

My mom kept commenting about how dark out it was as we were leaving! :rotfl: They have never done the early entry thing, so it was new for them, and they really enjoyed it! DH must have taken about a hundred pictures of that train to get the perfect one to frame for Paxton's room! He read that it's the only time of the day where the train will stop halfway in front of the station like that.

:rotfl2: That book!!! As cute as it ended up being, it was really a hassle sometimes because that was all he wanted. Next trip I'm hoping he will be old enough to actually understand the concept and will be better at holding the book without destroying it.

Crystal Palace is a good option for us since we don't have the dining plan because it's a cheaper option for a breakfast buffet. It is kind of hard to swallow paying so much money for typical breakfast foods, but for a character meal it is one of the better ones. That puffed French toast makes it totally worth the cost in my book. :lmao:

I totally agree on the pictures!! We love happening upon Photopass photographers in random spots and getting pictures in different places than the same old same old. Some of my favorites we have come across were on the bridge to Liberty Square getting the side view of the Castle in the background, in front of Splash Mountain, and near the Gazebo in Liberty Square when it was decorated for Christmas. I don't remember if it was us or the photographer that suggested getting one with the train station behind us, but I loved it! It's my cover photo on Facebook right now. :goodvibes

What a great breakfast to celebrate your DS's birthday! Love the cupcake pictures the best!

It was such a great morning and a great way to kick off his birthday celebration! He went nuts for that cupcake!

I know! I figured it was time for a change since that was a picture from his 6 month photos and he's now 2. :lmao:

Definitely! The rain wouldn't have stopped us, but I'm sure glad it didn't rain all day.

Hopefully it works out for you next time, because it's a really great way to start the day. We like having our one rope drop morning in MK (at least one!), and then our early entry CP breakfast day. Some people like to use it as a way to get a jump on the crowds, but to me, you can't really enjoy your breakfast or the character interactions in that amount of time. We love getting the time on Main Street for photos and then enjoying a nice breakfast with the characters, and then moving on with our day when we're ready. The puffed French toast is pretty much heaven on a plate, so I do sincerely hope you make it there sometime.

Oooh, those terrible twos! I swear, it was like he woke up that morning and thought to himself, "Oh yeah, I'm two! I'm supposed to be terrible now!" :lmao: We had a lot more patience-testing moments the second half of the trip than we did during the first half. He turned 2 and flipped a switch from angel to terrible!! :rotfl:

OK, I am joining in a little late and am going to subscribe to catch up. Your family is so cute. That's so awesome you celebrated your son's birthday there. :goodvibes Oh, and I'm jealous of your trip to Disneyland too. I am dying to go back there one of these days!

:welcome:

Thanks for coming over! And thank you for the compliment :goodvibes It was fantastic spending his birthday in Disney World. Just last night he was asking to go on an airplane to Mickey's house! I wish, buddy, I wish!!! :rotfl:

DL is so amazing! I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to visit twice in 2012. Hopefully you (and us!) can get back one day!!!

Day 5 Continued: Wednesday October 24th

After a fun breakfast with Pooh & Friends at Crystal Palace, we had just met up with DH outside the restaurant (after he had gone on a FP run for Peter Pan) and were deciding what we wanted to do. We thought about going to Fantasyland, the obvious choice, but then remembered DS was finally tall enough to ride something with a height restriction. So his first attraction as a 2 year old was...

1713_zps06f273dd.jpg

Tomorrowland Speedway!

I know, so exciting, right? But we had fun trying to get him to stand up straight to be measured for the first time, and figured we might as well ride it while it was still early before the line got too long. Nonni & Poppi wanted to sit out, so they went up to the stands while we went to get measured. After confirming DS was tall enough to ride, the CM gave DS a driver's license!

1715_zpsda31a3fd.jpg

Ready to roll!

My mom tried unsuccessfully to get a picture of the three of us before we took off, so I was a little annoyed about that, but didn't let it get to me too much. DH was driving, DS was excited, and I was taking pictures of the scenery we passed.

1720_zps9f945c0b.jpg

1721_zps94adcff9.jpg

DS seemed to really like it! I think he would be more into it now that he is crazy about race cars. When we are sitting at red lights, he will yell out, "Two...one...GO!"

1726_zps3a3e27be.jpg

Managed to take an arm-out photo of the three of us, even though you can't see the car!

After that thrilling "race" we headed to the Mad Tea Party since it's right there, but I convinced DH to stop for Alice & the White Rabbit first! He didn't want to since they didn't have a page in the book, but we had a generic page at the back that I didn't want to leave empty. And the line was not long, so we waited patiently.

1728_zps93b53536.jpg

1729_zps3eee237c.jpg

Quickly enough, it was our turn!

1730_zps618b9723.jpg

1732_zps0506ed91.jpg

Talking to Alice and showing her his shirt!

1737_zpsf49e32d3.jpg

"Are you two?"

1740_zps8694b971.jpg

"Do you know today is my unbirthday?"

Photo0419FourBySix.jpg

White Rabbit must have thought the whole generic page was for him because he signed his name HUGE! lol

Photo0420FourBySix.jpg

Photopass caught this, not sure what he was doing but I thought it was funny!

Photo0423FourBySix.jpg

He really loved meeting Alice & the White Rabbit, and luckily no meltdown over the book! We were off to a much better start now. We stopped right there for a diaper change, then decided we'd rather head over to Winnie the Pooh for a ride and save the Mad Tea Party for later.

1751.jpg

Somehow, DS ended up with Nonni's sunglasses on and was having a blast running around playing in the queue for Winnie the Pooh. It just all seemed 10x funnier with those glasses on his face!

1752.jpg

Checking to see if Piglet was home

1755.jpg

1758.jpg

He saw the vegetables and said, "Apple!" as he tried to pick one up!

1761.jpg

1771.jpg

1783.jpg

We took a couple of videos of him playing as well if you are interested. He was really having a blast!

When we went to join up with DH and Poppi in the line, the little boy behind us proclaimed that we had cut the line! lol His mom explained we had been playing in the play area, then looked at my mom and said, "Preschool rules!" It was pretty funny, and no one was mad. :-)

1789.jpg

We sat down in our honeypot, and that's when I noticed the smell. Uhhh, DS, we were not being literal when talking about Pooh! So we "enjoyed" a very smelly ride on Winnie the Pooh.

After riding Pooh, we glanced through the gift shop and saw a cute Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh T-shirt for DS. I yelled to DH over my shoulder to get one for him as I ran him to the nearest restroom to take care of that dirty diaper. :rotfl:

4174.jpg

By the time we were done, it was time for us to use the FPs for Peter Pan's Flight that DH had pulled earlier after breakfast. So we made our way down to that area of Fantasyland. But first, some photos of the construction!

1822.jpg

1823.jpg

Still so bummed that they were doing CM previews the WHOLE week we were there!! At least it will all be open for our next trip, but still. It would have been so great to have the opportunity to check it out before it officially opened.

1825.jpg

1826.jpg

With our FPs, we didn't wait long at all, and DH had another fun trip with us on the pirate ship off to Neverland! He is crazy about pirates now too, I think starting from this trip when he actually understood "pirate ship" and what was going on. Now he loves Jake & the Neverland Pirates on TV, and anytime he sees a skull & crossbones he will yell, "Pirate!" Random funny story, my mom bought a sweater for one of her dogs with a skull & crossbones on it, but it was too small for her dog so she gave it to us for Belle. DS now calls them Belle's "pirate jammies" :lmao:

Since we were right across the way from it and it had no wait, we went over to Poppi's faaaaaavorite attraction, It's a Small World!

1828.jpg

1829.jpg

1831.jpg

Another video: On It's a Small World. In the beginning, he is just kind of looking around taking it all in, then goes nuts when he sees pumpkins in the Mexican area.

So happy that he got to discover the joys of Tomorrowland Speedway. Did you let him steer the wheel a bit? This has been a favorite for our kids the past few years. Our DS didn't show any interest in driving the car and was content just riding along last trip, but I have a feeling he will want to be in charge in a couple of weeks. Just have to watch out for sideways whiplash when the kids steer! :lmao:

Of course! He didn't really know what to make of it, but I'm sure by next trip he will be all over that steering wheel! Those things steer so horribly, I think you get sideways whiplash no matter WHO is driving!! :rotfl:

Haha, smelly "Pooh" ride. Was Paxton able to enjoy the ride even with his dirty diaper?

I LOVE the IASW video! That look of amazement is so adorable. It's one thing if you had just a picture, but seeing the video and how he was so entranced makes me think IASW is one of the greatest rides (and I already love the ride because the shapes and patterns and such make me really want to craft!).

Oh yeah, he still enjoyed it. It never bothers him at all, just the people around him. :rotfl2:

That's what I love about taking him on all of the rides. You never know what is going to get him really excited! It's probably his favorite ride because there is so much he likes to point out to us (boats, ducks, suns, stars, apples, pumpkins, fish, etc.)! I have always personally enjoyed IASW, but it just a million times better sharing in DS's excitement when we ride it now. :goodvibes

Sounds like a fun morning at the Magic Kingdom! The videos of Paxton are too cute. It must be a completely different experience having a little guy with you.

Thanks! It was a really fun day, I loved pretty much every minute of it! It is a totally different but equally wonderful experience taking a child to WDW. Before having him, we kept taking trips thinking it just wouldn't be as fun as it was just the two of us because we wouldn't be able to get on all the thrill rides over and over like we did just two of us. But now that we have been taking him it is a whole new excitement experiencing things with him and seeing the World through his eyes! At one point during the first half of the trip, DH and I commented that we had not rider swapped anything yet, and it didn't bother us one bit! We were having too much fun doing everything with DS!

Paxton looks so cute measuring up for the Speedway.

I think he has a crush on Alice - or maybe its the other way around. What a great picture of Alice, Rabbit and Paxton.

Paxton certainly picked the right ride for his Pooh! :rotfl:

Another fun update!

Another fun update!

Although he was not quite understanding what we wanted him to do (thank goodness he was well above the height requirement!), it was so fun finally getting him measured up for a ride!

Looking at the pics now, I think you're right! Might have to introduce him to the Alice in Wonderland movie soon. :goodvibes That is one of my favorite character pictures from the trip.

Oh yes, I think he is secretly way smarter than we think and planned the whole thing to be ironic. :lmao:

Ok, we are home from our trip...for over a month now lol. I have been trying to keep up, but haven't been taking the time to comment, but since I am trying this whole wake up when DH goes to work to get an extra hour before Zavier wakes up I can finally take the time to comment :thumbsup2

First how exciting but sad to see that Paxton now met the height restrictions. I think I would cry that my little man is getting so big.

What a great interaction with Alice, he seems to be all smiles. The photopass picture is just adorable. So glad they were able to capture that. I feel like I had the opposite happen during our trip. Zavier would do something cute and they wouldn't get it. I'm guessing they aren't all parents so they don't realize that we wouldn't mind if they took 50 pictures at each interaction lol.

Oh the joys of a stinky diaper. DS ended up hating our travel potty we bought to take on the trip so we had our share of those moments. The best times were when he would sign to a character or waitress that he was going number 2 and they thought he was waving haha.

I loved the fantasyland expansion, it was just awesome. I really enjoyed it. The theming is just spectacular. You mention you will see it next trip. Do you have a trip planned yet. It looks like ours will be Feb 2014.

Your small world video is really cute. Its funny how certain things excite them.

I also had to let you know, that as expected Zavier had a similar experience on the carousel as Paxton. I had joked with you that I could see Zavier having the same reaction Paxton did and to my surprise it actually happened. On his first ride he was absolutely loving it and cried when he had to get off. Well a few turns on round 2 and he was reaching to get off and didn't want to sit on the horse anymore. At the end we asked if he wanted to ride again and he shook his head no. He didn't avoid eye contact the rest of the trip but anytime we asked if wanted to ride again he would say no...too funny.
