I keep reading about a GT rate. Not sure what this is. I just booked a cruise for 3/30/2014 out of Miami for 5 nights. We are doing an inside stateroom and we are paying 563 for Adults. We have 2 rooms since there are 6 of us. This is with a booking discount from our cruise last Feb. Do you think this is the best rate???

The *GT rates are the last-minute restricted fare that DCL sometimes offers on those cruises that aren't selling well.

With them you book a type of room (IGT-Interior guarantee; OGT-Oceanview guarantee; VGT-Verandah guarantee). DCL assigns a room at a later time within your type of room.

There are restrictrictions with these bookings, including you must pay in full at booking, there are no changes allowed, and no refunds.

Generally these last minute restricted fares are lower that the going rate at the time the *GTs are offered, but higher than the same room would have been if booked on opening day for the same cruise.

There are two types of GT rates.

A GTY rate is a guaranteed category room. You don't get to pick the actual room, but you do pick the actual category. This rate is a little discounted, but does not have restrictions. You can use your 10% on board booking discount with this rate.

The IGT/OGT/VGT rates are super restricted non cancellation rates. These come out after the PIF date. You cannot move a reservation to this rate as it's a new reservation, therefore you cannot have your 10% on board discount, nor your $100/$200 OBC. This rates only guarantees you the type - inside, oceanview or verandah. And if you book multiple rooms, you could end up on different decks.

I believe OP is looking at GTY rates as this is for a cruise about 68 days away. I don't think *GT rates are out for this.

Hope this helps.

I defer.
There is three types of *GT rates. I , O, and V, period.
There is GTY and there is *GT rates.
They are completely different as PP indicated.

And a GTY rate is not "a little discounted." It is not discounted at all. An 11CGTY is the same price as an 11C on that same cruise.

Nope. There is no GTY "rate." When a certain percentage in a category is sold, the cat goes into GTY status. You are guaranteed a room in that category or better. There is nothing discounted at all about these rooms. Lets say you choose a cat 5E GTY. DCL could assign you a cat 5E room or something higher, such as a cat 5A. It is true that u can use your 10% rebooking on it because its not anything special.

I stand corrected - I honestly thought there was a small discount for taking a GTY rate.

Anyway, from what OP is mentioning, booking on board, it has to be a GTY room and not a *GT rate (ie, IGT/OGT/VGT). Many tend to confuse the two...
