Princessap: I say do this! More than likely if the pool is not open and you explain the situation, they will let you switch, especially if they go pass the scheduled done date. Hopefully it will be open when you get there. You know they do also have a "quite pool".

Anyone ever had success with this working? What would be potential outcome?move to CR or GF?

Hi everyone!

I don't currently have time to go back and read a lot right now. Can someone give me the 411 on the renos and timeline? We are planning an August trip, but want to ensure we are not dealing with construction the whole time :) otherwise we may need to head back to beach club :( thanks!!!

They will only be doing one longhouse at a time and it will be only interior work, so you should be fine. The dates for each longhouse renovation are at the bottom of this link:
http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/news/218-room-renovation

I spoke to a CM yesterday and they confirmed that Hawaii building is indeed currently closed for renovations.

Will it be done by May??

The reservation system is allowing reservations in Hawaii for mid-March, so I'm guessing that's their target date.

Looks like we might need some DIS-ers to check on the refurbs as they go, to see if they're still on schedule or not. I'd love to request Tokelau for April but it's scheduled to start refurb on 3/31....but now if I heard there was some sort of delay or something.....:thumbsup2

I'll be there 3/13-19 & will glady walk the longhouses to see what's being refurbed at that time. It's my duty lol!

I'll be there soon, and I'll check/ask around about the refurbs. We're really getting excited--I haven't stayed at the Poly in a decade, and my little two have never been!

P.S. I'm really over-thinking the longhouse request and on-line check-in. I've requested Tahiti--close to the TTC, and the garden view is very nice. Then I think that Tokelau looks nice, too, and it's closer to the volcano pool and GCH...Someone needs to smack me--any room will be fabulous!

I can't see that they wouldn't let anyone do that. Obviously you would probably pay a fee for changing and then the difference in the resort price. I have heard of people checking into a value and the being upgraded to a moderate for free due to over booking or construction, of course I would never be that lucky, lol. :)

Do all of the rooms at the Poly have a balcony or patio? Im confused. I read that its interior corridors, so where is the window and view?

1st floor rooms have patios, 3rd floor rooms have balconies. Most 2nd floor rooms have neither, but they still have the big window, just not a sliding glass door. The 2nd floor of Fiji for example does not have balconies. I believe there are a couple longhouses that just have 2 floors so their 2nd floors have balconies.

TY! Can you get a balcony with a standard view? Or are the balcony rooms paid views?

Sure can! Last year we had a 3rd floor room in Fiji with marina view, that is part of the standard view rooms. It was so nice sitting out on the balcony in the afternoon!

The "longhouses" section on the first page of this thread has the details as to which buildings have balconies on the second floor and which do not. :goodvibes

Perfect TY! Would love a balcony room with a nice view close to the volcano pool and GCH. Traveling with 4 children, so we like to be in close proximity to everything.

Sounds like Fiji or Samoa would be perfect for you! In the Fiji longhouse you can get a marina view (under standard category) which has a view of the back of the volcano that's at the pool, you can't actually see the pool, and it's right outside of the GCH. In the Samoa longhouse you can get a pool view (under standard category) and that long house is also next to the GCH. Both are great!

Agree on Fiji! We loved our view at Fiji! Looking left we saw the lagoon and the castle, looking straight was the marina and volcano pool, looking right we saw the GCH! Quick access to the GCH for refillable mugs and monorail stop. Also heard the luau (very faintly but enjoyed the drumming in the background).

There's a lot of talk about requesting a specific long house on this thread. Am I nuts for not making a request? We did request third floor but that was it. My rationale is that a few years back we made a request for a stay at AKL for Arusha savannah. Well, when we checked in we not only didn't get our request, but were put in one of the trails that everyone said was the worst. Come to find out there was a watering hole just outside our balcony and we had every kind of animal outside 24/7. So my thought is maybe if I don't request this trip we'll get something special and unexpected. Is that stupid?

Not stupid at all! All of the longhouses have their perks and I don't think there is a "bad" one. It just depends on if you have specific preferences: close to GCH or TTC, near the volcano or quiet pool, quiet, removed longhouse or near the action, etc. For me, we loved staying in Tokelau our first trip because of it's convenience and view of the quiet pool, but I would be happy anywhere, as long as I'm at the Poly! :cool2:

Honestly, I would not do this. Last trip I thought to myself I would do the same thing at the GF. We got the absolute worst room in the entire resort - first floor looking right smack into the back of the pool house vents. Did it ruin our trip - no, but I will never do it again! You have nothing to lose by requesting.. And there is a huge difference between the pool view rooms and the ones overlooking the parking lot. Same price. Just my 2 cents.. After last time, I will always request.

If you're unsure, take a quick walk-through before you check in and find what you think is the right view for you and then ask at the front desk. :flower1:

There is no need at all to request a specific longhouse. If you are concerned about getting a bad view (which there aren't actually that many rooms at the Poly with horrible views) then you could make your request something like "third floor, facing pool" or "third floor, near beach".
