Disney Magic - 05/10/13 (May 10, 2013) - Calling All Kids At Heart

How formal is the formal night?
You'll see a little bit of everything. In my family, formal night usually involves dress shirts with ties for the guys, a long/formal dress for me, and a princess dress for my DD. You'll see many cocktail length dresses and suits, and a few in tuxes. You'll also see quite a few dressed more casually. It all depends what you feel like and if you want to take advantage of a good photo opportunity.

When I saw that on a signature today, I could believe it. We booked a long time ago and am just starting to really get into the planning/excited mode. My daughter will be turning 3 on our first @ sea day and she is already very excited about the cruise. This will be our 2nd Disney Magic cruise, and I am not sure if she really remembers the first or just what she has seen in pictures and videos.

So in 122 we will be on board & setting sail. Castway Cay & WDW all in one trip - what could be better?

Does anyone know what day the character breakfast will be on board? I had read another board and they said the 1st @ Sea day....what a perfect way to start your birthday.

We are planning on Magic Kingdom - Fantasyland specifically for our WDW day and depending on how the day goes we might park hop over to Disney Studios for the Disney Junior live show.

I installed the Disney My Experience app today and LOVE IT! I used it to make a lunch reservation at the MK. I tried to find the Shipmate app someone mentioned in a earlier post but didn't have any luck.

Glad I found this board & look forward to hear more of what everyone is planning.

Since I ask a lot of questions I thought I would post some answers I just got directly from DCL. thought they might help someone else

Friday is causal dinner
Saturday is formal attire
Sunday, casual attire
Monday, casual attire
Tuesday is open seating and casual as we are in port canaveral until 12:00 am
Wednesday is pirate night
Thursday is semi-formal
Friday is casual
Saturday Home :(

Palo is now $20 for brunch, dinner or high tea.

You can book excursions, meals, Disney busses... 75 days prior to sailing
regular, 90 days silver castaway club, 105 gold castaway club and 120 for platinum

You will get vouchers and notified the night before your scheduled character breakfast.

Hope this helps someone!

Thanks so much for all the info. When I made my reservation at MK for lunch there were only 3 options still open Liberty Tavern, Crystal Palace and Tony's Town Square Restaurant. We went with Tony's...pizza and pasta are always a winner with our DD, and I really would prefer to not have to do Quick Service dining.

We are flying in the day before and using Disney transfers to Hotel Galvez, and then transfer to the port. This is our 2nd Disney cruise so excursion will open up for us on 2/9. Seems like I saw somewhere on the Disney site that the return busses from the parks start running at 3:30pm, so for those going very early and hoping to come back to the ship for lunch and a nap - doesn't seem like that will be an option.

I saw someone posted that they are trying to book character exp for the day we are in WDW - from our experience on the 1st Disney Cruise there were so many character experiences on board and with 4 at sea days, I would vote for spending time enjoying the other park attractions and shows vs. the character lines...true there are more characters in the park and if your LO has a fav that won't be on board then priorities they do change for our LO's.

On board we only saw a "long line" for the Princess gathering, and our DD loved watching the other kids interact with the characters while we were waiting.

Characters we saw on board last time - Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, all princesses, Caption hook, Smeed, Captian Jack Sparrow, Chip & Dale...I can't remember all the princesses, but will try to look at our pictures and post later.

Does anyone know what time the busses start leaving for Disney in the am? There's also a character breakfast on board the ship but don't know what characters go!

Pictures I have seen show Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald and Chip/Dale at the Character Breakfast on board. Which is exactly the cast they have at Chef Mickey's @ the Contemporary. They also have a Tea with Alice in Wonderland that once on board you can request tickets @ guest services. I bet on a 8 night cruise they have it more than 1 time. On our 5 night cruise last year, I think they had 2 different times for the tea (we boarded late and had no problems getting tickets) and I know they did the princess gathering 2 times.

Also, allears.net has some good 1 day plans for WDW if you haven't been or not sure how to make the most have having only 1 day.

I had the same question about buses, and went looking through the boards. I did find a couple of trip reports from some who went out of NYC that stopped at Port Canaveral. I read one person said they caught the first bus to WDW @ 6:30. Got there for an early ADR. Another person mentioned they took a 7:15 bus and made rope drop.

Before DCL changed their web site I had added a bunch of activities for each port to my favorites. Since the change, I can't see my favorites and I change add favorites says come back on 2/9/2013 to book.

I can still read about the excursions ahead of time, but having them already in Favorites on 2/9 sure makes that process go faster.

Anyone planned any exursions for Key West? Very short day, I have no idea what to try and plan.

Its not until 5:30 in key west?

2/9 is for silver?

Has anyone done the adult brunch. What is it like? Is it sit down or buffet.

Thanks for all the answers:)

Just checked my reservation and says:
Key West, Florida
7:30 a.m.
12:45 p.m.

Yes 2/9 is for Silver.

So do we not have to pay in full before we pick a shuttle time to disney and book palo and such?
** got an email stating buses start running at 730 from PC hopefully they r earlier than that since it said it took 90 minutes for the drive too.

Another question: I noticed every single sailing out of Galveston has the IGT OGT VGT rates on them after final payment date and wondered if it was worth a risk canceling before final payment and hoping they add that rate to our cruise. The Balcony VGT rate would be $1968 . I have an 11b on deck 6 , a sideways cabin, for $2487 so I wasn't sure if anyone had an opinion on this.....VGT would mean they pick my cabin for me so I could get something I don't like .....any thoughts?

Yes, you have to have made your final payment before you can book excursions, Palo or time in the nursery.

The Disney rep I spoke with said buses normally start around 7am to WDW. The parks do not open until 9am that day.

Booked our shore excursions and Palo dinner and brunch very early today! Finished our on-line check-in. Now we just sit back and wait....

Fantastic!!! We're gold so we have a few more days before we can book... Still can't decide which park to start with! What did your family choose? I know we'll do a Palo dinner but not sure about brunch this trip.

I think I might be over planning our WDW!!! HaHa
Not as young as I used to be!
