Royal suite in 2014?

Just running some variations for 2014 and noticed something a little odd. I can book the Royal Suite for 3 nights on the Magic for May 16, 2014 out of PC going to the Bahamas for our family of 4 for $4718. Or, I can book the Dream for 3 nights for May 15, 2014 out of PC going to the Bahamas for our family of four for $8972. Yes, basically the exact same cruise is 90% higher in cost on the Dream contrasted to the Magic in the same suite classification.

I know all about supply/demand, Disney's pricing, new ships vs old ships, etc. However, it seems like an excessive premium for the Dream.

And, yes, I know Disney can charge whatever they think they can get for a cabin.

Just curious if anybody else finds this pricing structure a little odd.

When I looked, a 5 night on the Wonder out of Miami was $6,220 on the Wonder and a 7 night on the Fantasy was somewhere around $15,000.

Wonder, here we come!

The prices could be lower since the ships are older. My question is will the price for the Magic be the same after she comes back from dry dock or will it be similar to the Dream? I wouldn't mind trying the smaller ships if our trip on the Dream goes well.

We booked the Roy suite on the Magic for after dry dock. I had never seen the Roy or the Walt available before.
If the price increases, it will not affect those who have already booked. The price they set now is the price you pay.

Right now, you get significantly more on the new ships with the lounge, complimentary beverages, etc. It isn't anywhere near worth doubling the price, but it is more than on the classics.

What will happen after dry dock, we don't know. However, they can't raise the price if you book now.

(1029 sq. ft. vs. 1781 sq. ft.)
Around 70% more space.

We love that the classic ships have four two bedroom suites available. Maximizes the private space for our family, so people can go to bed and get up at different times without disturbing others in the main cabin space. On the new ships, I think you have to book two connecting cabins to,get two bedrooms, which is more expensive since the major cost is the first two people in a stateroom.

The Sq ft includes the verandah. Classic ships have a nice 2 bedroom layout and Interior space well thought out but verandah very narrow. The verandah on new ships is gigantic with a private hot tub out there. I swear you could have a party for 75 people out there. The suite is great for entertaining.

I agree, DWF, that the pricing is bizarre when you relate those comparison quotes. The most outrageous thing is when I look at the per diems for these suites. They go as high as 4300/night ... (30K for 7 night cruise)

I couldn't snort enough pixie dust to ever justify that

This is true! I don't understand why they have such HUGE suites in the Dream class but they only sleep 5??? For that price, they should sleep more than 5, IMO. I only book the suites on the magic class because of our family's size. I have no interest, therefore to book on the Dream if we can't all fit into one room. I just can't justify two rooms at the dream price for our family when I am just fine on the Magic in one really nice room!

I hadn't realized you could book a cruise on the Magic post dry dock already. Thanks for the info.

We have stayed in a Royal on a classic ship before, and aren't the least bit interested in the suites on the new ships. In fact, DH even emailed to complain when we first saw the preview for the layout. We loved our first cruise and were planning to go again on the new ships. Then we saw what they offered and ditched DCL completely. There is absolutely no comparison between the layout (2 actual bedrooms + the separate living area + the extra library/bedroom) and functionality of the classic Royals (especially for families with small kids) to those of the new ships. Wouldn't even book one if they were cheaper than the classic Royals. We actually started going to Beaches Turks and Caicos instead. Asked our TA for suggestions for something that would compare to our week in the Roy, and she recommended it. For 1/3 - 1/2 of the price of a Royal suite on the new ships for a 7 night Caribbean, we are able to spend a an awesome week at BTC (with butler service) in a huge 2 bedroom imperial family suite. Have gone for 2 years in a row now, and will be going back next year. Highly recommend it if you are looking for an alternative because the new suites aren't a good fit for your family either. Looking forward to our 5 night on the Magic in October, but that will probably be it for us for a while.

Obviously some people love the new layouts (to each their own!), but we feel they dropped the ball completely on the design of them. Our favorite line so far when we called to inquire about them (and stated our displeasure with losing the acutal second bedroom) was that we could book the adjoining 1 BR suite! Wow - how helpful. I'm going to pay $31,000 for the suite, and now you tell me the "solution" for having a second bedroom (as you offer on the classic ships) is for me to pay an additional $13,000? Ummm....no thanks!

It's good to hear your perspective. Originally I had planned on going on the Fantasy because the ship sounds beautiful. We like technology so things like the kid's floor look amazing. As time has gone on, I am now really glad we are on the Magic. First, like I said earlier, I've always wanted to go on it since I first saw it. But also, I think it will suit us more. We are not crowd people and my youngest doesn't do well in crowded, noisy areas (for example, he doesn't like the parade at MK where everyone dances in the streets after). I'm really glad we're going on a smaller ship.

Personally, I could never afford $30k for a cruise so we'll never be on the Fantasy. Although, that balcony looks amazing, lol. We'll probably try a different line next time so I will have to check out what you recommended.

There are 5 of us and 2 of the kids are adults now so we really need the space.
