Dining attire and temperature of rooms?

I understand that there are "fashion police" on the cruise ship. I have never cruised before so I want to make sure I have the right stuff...

I know what I am packing for my husband for dinner - khaki pants, collared golf shirts, no we are not doing any formal wear. But he can still wear shorts / t-shirts during the day, correct??

I am not a dress person, more of a skirt with a tank top type person. Are tank tops ok?? The tops are no different than a top of a sundress.

And does it tend to get chilly in the restaurants? Should I pack a light weight sweater? I can't stand being cold at a meal.

Besides dinner, all other meals are just your basic clothes, shorts / t-shirts, cover ups???

Are the theaters chilly? What is the attire for there? We have late dinner, so we would probably be wearing our dinner stuff anyway, but just in case.

Last but not least, I swear every video I have seen at night, shows people wearing sweatshirts...is it really that cool on a ship at night? We are going in June. I know here at home we would melt with a sweatshirt on then.

This is my first cruise, so I am no expert.. but I can share what I found browsing these sites. Of course your husband can wear shorts or whatever during the day. It is only dinner (and perhaps the stage shows) that would be the nice pants and shirt kind of deal. For other meals, my understanding is just no swimsuits. So shorts and a tank top should be allowed. In terms of temperatures, I have no idea.. but I am looking forward to someone else giving some input on that as well.

I found it very cold in the dining rooms, I always bring a cardigan with me.

I got quite cold in the theater during the shows so a light sweater is definitely a good idea. We had the late show and tended to wear the same clothing we had worn to dinner. You can definitely wear shorts/tshirts/sundresses the rest of the time.
I was not cold on deck in the evening at all but I guess it depends on the person and what temperature they are used to. We are from GA and it felt fine on deck. I don't remember being cold in the MDRs but you may want a light sweater.

I tend to run on the warm side. I was never cold in the dining rooms. The theaters, on the other hand - were always chilly! I usually stopped by the cabin to get a sweater to put on.

Yes, breakfast and lunch are casual. Shorts, t-shirts, etc.

Our only summer cruise has been to Alaska, so we definitely needed coats to be out on deck at night. I can't imagine that you would need a sweatshirt on deck for most other summer cruises.

I take a sweater or jacket to the dining rooms. They and the theater are typically more cool than I like.

We weren't sweatshirt cool on deck in June, but we sure were in February.

Your husband will look like most of the other adult men at dinner. Many did wear suits on formal night, but not all and many of those that did not wore button down shirts with collars.
Ladies wore slacks, dressier capri pants, dresses, and skirts with dressy tops like you see over jeans. Yes, you might want a light sweater to wear at dinner, but especially in the theater and club area. It does tend to get cooler in these areas in the evening. You will want one when you walk the outer decks in the evening too.

The only time I have seen anyone wearing a sweatshirt on the ship was in Alaska, and on CC on our 1/8/11 cruise when it was in the high 50s/low 60s and windy. We have cruised in November, December, January and March, along with August.

The only time I have seen anyone wearing a sweatshirt on the ship was in Alaska, and on CC on our 1/8/11 cruise when it was in the high 50s/low 60s and windy. We have cruised in November, December, January and March, along with August.

Count me in as one of the ones who always finds the interior spaces onboard a bit chilly. In fact, on our Oct Hawaii cruise the WDT was downright freezing. So much so that most people after the first night were bringing blankets from their rooms or from the adult pool area to wrap up in during the shows there. And it was that way even during the day when they had some of the lectures in there. It took until the second to last day before they were able to adjust the temprature in there to the "normal" cool setting.

Another vote for chilly inside. It's like working in most offices or traveling on planes - layers are the key to happiness.

I found the dining rooms on the warm side, compared to other cruise lines. I was a bit uncomfortable wearing a jacket on dress-up-night. I never had this issue on Cunard, where jackets are required every night.

This was on the Dream this past August. Perhaps it's different on the other ships, at other times of year.

Keep in mind i'm a guy, and overweight, so take this with a grain of salt…

That is crazy!!! It wasn't even that cold on the interior of the ship when we were in Alaska. Yes, we were in coats and wrapped in blankets standing on deck 4 whale watching, but not inside anywhere.

There actually aren't any fashion police, trust me. Some people prefer to dress up more than others. No swimsuits, bra straps showing, short shorts, you'll be fine. I am a dress person because I find them more comfortable. But to each his/her own. It can get chilly, bring along a light sweater.
