And you know it is coming---

Say something positive about yourself.
:)

I have another busy day coming up, but I will try to check in tomorrow evening.
Have a great Thursday! :)

Acorn squash baked in the oven with salt, pepper and a sprinkle of parmesan!
Positive- I am so lucky to have a supportive spousal equivalent! He makes this easier for me! He even tries to hide the candy bars he is eating so I won't feel left out. More than I can say for the 9 year old!
Thanks Rose for working this in to your busy schedule!

I am only busy three days a week. :) I work part time. Compared to everyone who is juggling so much more, I am a slacker. ;) It only feels busy to me right now cause my DS is still home from college for a few more days. :goodvibes

I love squash roasted in the oven! Yum!

Can't believe I am saying this---c'mon you stinky gators! Score some points so I can go to bed. Yes, I am rooting for the gators. I know most people will not believe that. Gotta support the conference. :)

Posting early, since I really need to get to work on time and I think I will run in the morning. :)

QOTD Wednesday, January 2, 2013

How often do you weigh/ get on the scale?

And you know it's coming--say something positive about yourself.
:)

I weigh myself every morning. It helps me to monitor ... and assess the good and bad.

Positive: I don't have any gray hairs yet (thanks mom and dad for the good genes :goodvibes ).

I have a hard time cooking veggies. I like them but get really bored eating the same thing. I am looking forward to seeing what other people write. (I like the acorn squash recipe. :) )

Positive: I was under calories today, drank 8 glasses of water and exercised for 30 minutes.

I love all red vegies. Fresh, not canned beets and red cabbage are main ingredients in my purple soup!

Goodness for the day, even though I'm feeling a little under the weather I didn't let effect anyone else.

Nice to see you Magdalene! I think losing steam is a common problem.

In the past I would have a bad day, bad meal, bad week, etc and then just quit. It was an all or nothing kind of thing. I have learned that one bad meal, choice, even week, does not have to define me. It does not make me a quitter or a loser (you know, the bad kind of loser ;) ). It just means I need to pick myself up, dust myself off and keep moving forward. I don't have to be "on" 100% of the time. I just have to keep trying. :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I think I have gotten better at getting back on track over the last few years. It really is a learning process and I figured out that the more often you pick yourself up the more it becomes a habit - and hence easier. I still have a way to go though.... :goodvibes

I love zucchini (or courgette - my dictionary offers both names). I slice them and mix them in a bowl with a teaspoon of olive oil and then sprinkle with coars sea salt and pepper. Then roast them in the oven. Works wonderful as well if you add bell pepper, any squash and if you add a few potatoes you can make a meal out of it. Sometimes I even throw in a chicken breast if I need more protein, but often I just make some low fat yoghurt dip to go with the potatoes and vegetables.

I missed that positive thing yesterday, so must make sure to do it today! Since I am still a bit wet I guess I will make it that I did walk to work despite it being very rainy outside and did not take the bus! So that's the first 20 minutes of workout for the day.

Good Thursday morning.

We love roasted cauliflower. I can make an entire head for just the three of us and it will be gone.

Something positive I am a good friend. We are having a 60th birthday party for a friend at school today that I organized.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Good morning everyone! Got my treadmilling in this morning. Thanks for all the encouragement about working out early in the morning! It helps to know that we all have support in this journey. For those of you that say, I wish I could get my workouts in early. I say just try it. Give it 2 weeks. You'll be surprised at how your body adapts.

Have a great day filled with healthy choices everyone!

Yesterday QOTD: I try to weigh myself every other day. It's really the only way I an keep myself on trak - when I'm doing good, it's motivation to ontinue. When I'm not, it's a reminder to work harder ...:rolleyes1

Veggies and I are NOT good friends. I usually pack carrots to snack on during the day, and a neighbor gave me a recipe for roasted kale that's actually pretty good. Not as good as the potato chips she swore it "tasted just like" but not bad!

Positive: kept a good attitude this morning about driving my parents to the airport at 445 AM (in -6 temps!). Getting up wasn't the issue - but it meant I missed my favorite 5AM spin class. I'm working on a less rigid schedule so this was good, right? LOL. And my parents will be happy to get to warm, sunny Florida for the winter!

Yikes! This thread has taken off like a rocket!

Happy Thursday friends! Sorry I've been MIA the last few days. I am back to "normal" schedule with work, swim practice, etc. I should have some time tonight to read and reply and chat though!

FINALLY back to "normal" with my eating and exercise too! Had a fully OP day yesterday, including a good workout and a trip to the grocery store to buy lots of greens and fruit. Gym bag is packed to head straight to the Y after school today too.

I may have some time at lunch today to at least try to catch up on the QOTD! I'll BBL later when I can! Teaching Kindergarten today...........P

No matter what the scale says Pamela, I know you will be right back on track. I have felt really, really out of control as well. And I hate that feeling. But as we both know all too well, we cannot control everything and we both just need to do the best that we can. :goodvibes

Thanks for the positive thoughts. It is amazing how just two days back in control can make everything better!

I am cooking a pot of chili for chili fries (ok not that healthy, but I am skipping the hamburger ;) ) and we have a bottle of champagne and a bottle of Nuvo! I am so excited about the Nuvo--they have it at the kiosk at France in Epcot and it is yummy!

Thanks so much for the encouragement to join Pinterest. I think I am going to like it. :)

The chili sounds yummy. What kind of veggies do you add?

Count me in! I am really looking forward to 2013 and moving closer to my long-term healthy goals.

After a excessively crappy 2011, I was VERY happy with 2012. I

1. lost 115 pounds
2. dropped A1c from 7.3 to 5.5
3. dropped cholesterol from 207 to 172
4. eliminated back pain despite 2 herniated discs
5. now look forward to exercise - walking, Zumba, swimming and even the elliptical
6. went from size 4x/30-32 to size XL-1X/14-16
7. am no longer morbidly obese
8. no longer dread going to the doctor
9. enjoy just plain leaving the house again

I'm looking forward to moving to Onederland in 2013 and from "obese" to "overweight" and even to "normal".

For January, I'd love to lose 8 pounds and get away from the 200's for-evah! I think that might be a bit ambitious, so I'm going to shoot for 5.

WOW! You had an amazing 2012! I am sure with that kind of motivation you can move right on into "normal" weight zone this year!!

So I went to the DR last night and it's the flu. yay.

He gave me a script for robitussin with codeine in it. I need to get that filled today, the pharmacy was already closed last night by the time I got home.
I did manage to swing by Target and picked up a new nettie pot but I need to find distilled water, they didn't have any at Target.

Not how I wanted to start the new year but I do feel better today than I did yesterday. And other than DS12's friend calling at 11:30 last night (ERGH!!) I got a decent nights sleep.

I guess I should go make breakfast and get moving on my day. School tomorrow so we have the mad rush to get homework done.

Yuck.. flu. Glad you got something to help with the cough. The good night's sleep may end up being the best "medicine" of all.

Why do they ALL procrastinate about the holiday homework??:confused3

*************

Well..... caught up a bit.... gotta dash!............P

Hmmmm...non-traditional veggie? I love sautéed mushrooms. My favorite is mixing them with zucchini, yellow squash, and onions with a bit of olive oil and garlic salt.

Something positive: (why is this so hard?!) I'm a good cook and I enjoy it.

There was a tragic popcorn accident in my bedroom last night - gotta go clean that up.

Happy Thursday! I am getting off to a slow start, so no time for replies. I did get my run in so that's good. :)

I am at 3/365 for running at least a mile every day in 2013.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday. Drink that water. Get those workouts in and be kind to yourself today. :)

Good morning everyone!

QOTD: I don't know how different it is as a vegatable, but I love to mash turnips and carrots together. I also really like baked squash. I'm looking forward to seeing what some of you write as I'm always looking for new ways to cook my veggies and new veggies to eat!

Positive for the day: I'm really proud of myself that I actually worked out yesterday after getting the kids off to bed.

Have a great on track day everyone!

I love parsnips roasted with a little olive oil, salt and pepper with other root vegetables, like carrots, onions and potatoes.

I also like argula instead of lettuce on sandwiches and in salads. Right now one of my favorite organic salad mixes at the store has select herbs in it, like cilantro or flat leaf parsley.

I can get a lot done when I am ready to go on vacation. :cool2:

When I am really working at it I weigh Every morning when I am being really bad then i avoid the scale like the plague

Hang in there, Jen! I hope your surgery goes well and they give you the all clear to start doing something without hurting.

What a good daughter you are, Jude! :goodvibes I would be crying that I wanted to go, too. :rotfl:

Have fun with the kindergarten set today, Pamela.

Nice job with the night workout! :cool2:

Have a great day all! :goodvibes

QOTD: My favorite non-traditional veggie is kale, roasted like "potato chips". I don't like vegetables so I have a had time regularly eating them :(

As for me, I ran 5 miles after work yesterday and have a session with my trainer tonight. It's amazing how much better I feel after a workout :)

I'm a few days late to the party, but I hope to join in. This is the first time in 4 years that I'm not going down to the January races, and I'm a bit sad about it. I hope to make it down January 2014 and go Goofy! It would make training wayyyy easier if I lost some of these extra pounds. So I'm hoping I lose at least 5 in January. I'm excited! You are a great bunch of folks:goodvibes

Okay, I love veggies! Roasted, raw, canned, frozen, sautéed, whatever...yum!

As for non traditional, I guess I'll say beets. I like them whole, warmed up with a little butter, salt and pepper. Delicious!

Positive thought:
Well yesterday was a very stressful day personally and at work, followed by a craptastic drive home in a blizzard. The " old " me would have had some chips and beer and called it a day and then go to bed. The NEW me had a healthy dinner, did 30 minutes of Zumba and meditated on how to fix things in a grown up way :)

This old dog is learning new tricks :)

Good luck today to everyone!
