Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Quick question: does anyone know the projected finish time breakdown for the marathon corrals? I had not run a 10k or half marathon by the deadline to submit a time. I'm currently in the last corral since I didn't submit a time. I'm planning to provide a proof of time at the expo but just wanted to know what corral I would be looking at for planning purposes since the starting times vary quite a bit. Thanks in advance!!

Unfortunately, after that run on Saturday, I started feeling ill... after getting through the holidays, I went to the doctor yesterday and was diagnosed with Acute Bronchitis. I'm on antibiotics, but it is also pretty likely to be viral. I'm finally starting to see some movement with the fever (below 100 this morning instead of the 100.5 - 102.2 range most of the weekend when I was without fever reducer).

Chest congestion is pretty bad, so even if I had energy right now (which I don't) I wouldn't be running anyway.

Ted

I feel I could have written this! I also have bronchitis, but I'm running the full. My last run was last thur and only 2 miles. I do not plan on running again, I'm focusing on making sure the lungs get healthy instead. I also couldn't run now if I tried- no energy and no lung ability.

Good luck on your recovery. I can't wait to feel better!

Which MK bathrooms are available during the half marathon? I would like to use a real bathroom which bathrooms have you used on course?

I am totally new to doing a Disney 5K. Can anyone give me the rundown? What time should I get on the bus (I'm staying at OKW)? What time do you want to line up at the start? Are there any sort of corrals (I've read that people just go to the area where their pace is)? Is the finish line the same as the bigger races? Do they do post-race pictures with your medal?

Thank you! :)

The race starts at 0630. I would be on the 0530 bus so that you get there and can mill around and find your spot. In the past they have not started in waves... in other 5k's this year, they have waved the start But that was also an AK race, I believe.

Because this is a self seeded race, assume a couple minute off your pace. I guarantee you that is not enough, but you will feel guilty driving that much off as you line up. The start is next to the finish line (it is the exact same spot the 1994 marathon started) on the canal and on the drive separating 4 parking areas. The race runs away from Epcot and then runs the perimeter of the parking lot. Finish is the same finish line you will finish your other races on.

There are photographers and I believe there are medal lines set up.

Have fun!

For the 2012 5K race, the start was divided into two separate waves. The first wave was up to 10/11mpm pacing, IIRC and then the second wave was 12mpm to walkers. I watched the first wave start from the bleachers and then started the second wave as the LAST person across the start line. Even though I was in corral C for the Half and Full, I started right in front of the Balloon Ladies for fun.

Pretty sure every bathroom is open and available. I usually use the ones in Tomorrowland, just outside of Cosmic Ray's. But I've seen people run off course for just about any bathroom in any park.

I used the bathrooms in Frontierland, right after the castle exit.

The bathrooms in Tomorrowland are great for freshening up because you hit them before you run through the castle and take your big picture.

I hope you feel better! If your doctor didn't prescribe you an inhaler I would consider asking for one.

Is the Frontierland bathroom very busy? The first half I did in WDW I used the Tomorrowland bathroom and it was so busy, had to wait in a line. After that I started using the bathroom right next to Pinocchio's and it is always empty or almost empty in there (I love it!) It is further off the course though, that's the downside. Whenever I get to Frontierland I wonder if that is a non-busy option, too, since a lot of people have already used a bathroom before that point.

Good idea about freshening up! I wasn't sure if we were allowed to run "off course" thanks for the tips.

I don't remember waiting on line. The only thing that held me up was having to drag my compression tights back up over my sweaty thighs!! LOL

I read that tip on the Princess 1/2 board from this year so I'm just happy to pass it along to a fellow runner :-)

Hi all,
I don't post too often but do enjoy following everyone's training. I need suggestions. I came down with the stomach bug on Christmas day and am still not quite feeling myself. I'm pretty exhausted :faint:and everything is not traveling through the digestive system just right yet. I had originally planned to do a 5 miler on Wed, and another 5 miles on Friday with a moderate 10 miles on Sunday as part of my taper plan. Well the 5 on Friday didn't happen and I'm not sure the 5 tomorrow will either. Should I try for a moderately slow 3 or 4 miles tomorrow and then maybe 10 on Sunday if I'm feeling ok? Or should I just bag tomorrow's run and run 6 miles on Sunday. I did my last long run of 20 miles on the 23rd and had planned a moderate three week taper but not quite this quick of a taper. I could use some advice. I'm usually pretty cautious with illness/injury and running, but this close to the marathon and being this sick is new to me. :worried: Help?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Keep up the great training everyone, we're almost there!

Jeanne

First, take time to get well. Pushing through a bug can make it last longer. Saying that, if you are feeling well Saturday then run 10 on Sunday and call it good. No sense backing off the planned miles other than skipping the ones that the bug keeps you off the road.

Love the video! Makes me giddy for the race!!

I hope they have a good shirt for the 1/2 because I'm having a hard time deciding what to wear. :headache:

Actually, in an 'old school' way, running in the current race shirt is bad form. In the old days, shirts were finisher shirts and handed out as you crossed the finish. From a practical standpoint, you would be running in a new shirt that you had never used on a run. It could easily chafe.

So saying all this, to the older folks (like me) running in the race shirt screams rookie. However, only a tenth as much as the runners you see with their bib on their back. (why do would they call it a bib otherwise?) Will anyone pull you aver or call you out. Doubt it. In fact as the sport opens to more and more new runners it seems to be even more common to see runners in the race shirt. So maybe its a coming thing where not wearing the race shirt will be considered bad form. Further, as a friend pointed out, it was going to be the only time she would ever wear the shirt. I only post to let you know the history and why some folks may give you a funny look....

Have a great race....

That's goota be a girl thing. You'll see the guys reaching down to smear a little dirt on the face for the photo...:cool1:

Seriously a great tip, though washing my face would not help with the look at that point in the race.

runDisney has posted the corresponding times for each corral on the assignment lists on the runDisney site.

What do i need to bring as far as a camera? Or are there photopass people at all the character stops? I really didn't want to run with one (I was hoping to not wear a running belt). But if some of the photo ops I have to do myself then I need to find a small lightweight camera. Any suggestions?

I picked up a small Olympus water resistant Point & Shoot camera that fits well into my running pouch. I thought the water resistant part might come in handy.

I'd use my iPhone, but it's darn near impossible to get out of my arm band until it dries up a bit after the race.

I'm bringing the Olympus again for the next race, and I REALLY do PLAN on taking some pictures along the route!!

PLEASE - a little Etiquette!!!

As you run out of the castle, there are 40-50 of your closest and newest friends running with you. Please do not run like a little kid in an zigging and zagging airplane motion trying to get a photo from each photographer. Besides not getting as many of you as you think, you are ruining everyone else's photo.

Brightroom and Disney has a spot just AFTER the ramp on course left where you can pull over and take a great Castle photo and ham it up as well.

Off Soap Box

This is EXACTLY what happened to me! As I started down the ramp I saw the photographer right in front of me and thought "This will be an Awesome picture", instead, 2 girls that were in front of the photographer on the left JUMPED over to the right, right in front of me. When Brightroom had the video up, you could actually see this happen.

It really kinda put a spoiler on such a great feeling of coming out of the castle.

The killer deal for me is that it's a long sleeved shirt. I normally avoid long sleeved shirts like the plague. So with that being said, I've only worn my 2012 1/2 Shirt like twice.

My Indianapolis Monumental shirt is short sleeved and I've already worn it on many runs :) One was a long run in West Palm Beach a couple weeks after the event (Saturday after Thanksgiving) and someone started chatting with me while we jogged because of it.
