Can I run the 5K and still make a 9:00 tour

I wanted to run the Castaway Cay 5K but DH and I also wanted to do a group activity that starts at 9AM Can I do both? What time does the 5K start?

Just got off the Fantasy on Saturday, and the 5K started at 9:30. Not sure if it starts at the same time each visit. You might check a few Navigators (above, click on "Staterooms" and then "Navigators") to see if that is the set time across the board or if it varies. Did the 5K in summer of 2011 and it was miserably hot. I skipped it last week, but once I got on Castaway Cay, there was a nice breeze, so I regretted not doing it...but still bought a t-shirt to commemorate my prior run! There are now two styles of t-shirt, and there were plenty of both available throughout the day.

Last August it was ~930 as well. Ended up not doing it because it conflicted with excursions. Seems like it used to be before 9...

They like to leave time for the group picture with sports Goofy and for the kids club to open up on the island (for those runners that need child-watch). The club needs to hook up their computer system, on the island, to log kids in and out.... it's plug and go, but they have to unpack them from their indestructable-looking cases first.
There's a little bit of a warm-up walk to the starting point (near the island's runway), so you can catch the tram to catch up if needed... they don't wait for those dropping off kids.

The start time on the Dream was earlier than the start time on the Fantasy on our cruises. Maybe something to do with the itinerary? I don't know. Personally, I think it starts pretty late in terms of heat and planning the day. On the other hand, there are many other things happening before we are allowed off the ship, so I know they start as early as they can. On our last Dream (following Sandy), it didn't start until about 11 because it took that long to dock in the choppy water. Way too late for me.

The fantasy docks later than the dream. On our 11/17 fantasy cruise, my BIL ran it (<30 min) and barely made it to our 11AM jet ski time.

To answer the question, no, probably not going to work.

That's funny, your mentioning the time made me look back at my last 5k time: 27 min10sec...pathetic. I recently watched a 5k and watched a guy come in at 15 min 15sec. I thought maybe he took a taxi, but nope, it was legit. Then I looked it up, the world record for 5k is about 12min30sec...just amazing.

OP, the CC5k is more of a run than a race, per se. It's fun, but it can be really hot...like unbelievably hot. Like this is me after the first 1000meters :furious: Starting after 10am? Forget about it. Way too hot, probably not safe unless your gonna drink like a whole gallon of water before you start, or you really take your time.

27 min 10 seconds, pathetic.... that hurts! And I felt so happy that I finished in the mid 30 minute range!:sad2:

Thanks everyone, I am a little sad about having to pass it up but I really can't make DH miss something he would enjoy doing because I want to run. Maybe next time!

Ran the 5K on 12/14 - Fantasy, the start time was 9:45. Got the shirt as well, this was my second Castaway 5K finishing in 50 min. So unfortunately you will not be able to do both.

Ummm.....did it in June in 44:00. Who's pathetic now? :goodvibes:

In my defense, it was my first one ever, having just completed a Couch to 5K and it was in the low 80's with high humidity and high winds.

I'm a little better now (my last one was 37:00).

Do people walk the 5K? I am currently working on a couch to 5K WALK. Got a replacement knee and don't want to run, but I can walk without pain now and that is all I need.

:cool1:

As far as I know you can walk it. I know the whole basis of RunDisney is just to get people "healthy". Have a great time.
Does anyone know if you have a "Double dip" do they run it 2 days in a row? I would love to do both days but will settle for 1 :rotfl2:

You can walk, but the CMs won't necessarily wait around for you. On the Fantasy they've had the medals available (I believe at the finish line?), so if you walk slowly I would assume you need to go to GS afterwards to get the medal. But by all means, everyone, get out there and walk it!

When we were on the Dream last year and hit CC twice, they did indeed have the 5K on both days. Can't promise that they still do that, but at one point in the recent past, they did, so there's hope.

I ran it last Friday, 12/21. We did not even get off the ship until 10:30 -- big jam up at the aft gangway. The run didn't start until after 11:00. Finished in a monsoon. A woman that day finished it as a walk in a little over an hour.
