wow...go away for a couple weeks and the original thread just disappears. Oh, wait...part2.

Reading through everything to catch up.

I am also a walking Zomibe. Fatigued as can be. Seem to be eating everything I can get my hands on (luckily no weight gain).

Finished 20 miler yesterday morning...was jazzed. Will do 12 mile this coming, but schedule calls for another 20 following weekend.

Trying to decide if I should just rest and recoop or just charge forward with schedule. That 20 miler is the last super duper long run....

Not decided.

See ya all in a few weeks!!!:cool1:

So I went to my regular doctor last Thursday. She gave me a prescription for meloxicam and a referral for a orthopedic group. She said that I should be able to run next Saturday's 5k, just not to run more than that.

The group had a bunch of locations and offices and I didn't know which one would be best so I just called one and told them I had a knee injury from running and would like to see the doctor that could best help me. The lady was so unhelpful. She kept saying that there are a bunch of doctors that could help me. I finally just said for her to pick one and didn't talk anymore. So she gave me the name of the doctor and the first appt available is this coming Friday (right before my 5k). I didn't feel too comfortable about the likelyhood of this being a great doctor so I looked him up online. Well, he went to pre-med, Med school, and did his residency at the University of Florida (I am a die hard Gator and know they have an awesome school so this made me feel better). Plus he's the Team physician for the University of Central Florida, Assistant team physician for the Orlando Magic, and Physician for the Orlando Ballet. So I feel a lot better about him!

I talked to my brother's girlfriend too who is an orthopedic surgeon. I told her where it was hurting and how and she said while she can't definitely say since she didn't examine me, it sounds like Patello-Femoral Syndrome (which I looked up and is Runner's Knee). She described 2 excersizes to do. So we'll see if it turns out to be that. I just want to run again but I'm scared at the same time.

IF I run the 5k this weekend and feel okay (doubt it since my knee hurts during stairs and bending down and other random times...can't imagine the running will feel good) but if it does, what should I do for my weekend runs? Do the 5k, then 6 miles, then 9 miles, then taper back? That doesn't take me near the 13 miles

Physically, you don't need the other 20 miler in order to be ready to complete the marathon distance (don't know if you have specific time goals or an aggressive training plan). Mentally, it's whatever you need to convince yourself you are ready to run. Don't be afraid to rest if your body needs it.

No time, just finish.

Will play by ear.

I was diagnosed with Runner's Knee in 2009...I remember stairs were a killer. My doctor recommended some $25 orthotics which solved the problem for me (I have flat-ish feet). I have since been able to ditch them thanks to following a strength training program. :) So if you actually do have Runner's Knee your bro's gf is on the right track.

Hope you feel better soon!

*snooze* I don't know the song is okay, but to pump me up to get ready to run 26 miles?!?! Not so much.

I agree, it's a nice song but... not my pre-race choice. Maybe they'll remix it. Anyway, I'll have my own music ready to go on the trusty iPhone. Still not sure what my personal race-start song will be. :)

Truthfully, I didn't like any of the 3 choices! I mean, they are ok songs but just nothing inspiring!

Do the PT work that you learned of. Your long distance diagnosis is more than likely what will be found Friday. Ask about a brace /sleeve that you can run in while at the doc. They may script one or they may send you off on your own. I am not a fan of runners running long term in a brace but this close to the A race it make perfect sense.

From this point, your miles will be about the mental side of the game as much as anything. Make your 9 a 9-10 and try for the 10; fail to the 9. That will leave you with a 5k on race day. A simple little 3 mile run with 1 mile of that in Epcot. Many plans stop off at the 9-10 mile range. Though sub optimal, a set of 6-7 mile runs will get your through the half in fine fashion, if that helps with the nerves.

Note that the PF syndrome is mostly inflammation and little or no damage. It is more of a nuisance especially when it comes to stairs. But you do need to have an hands on look to rule out other issues. He will more than likely ask that you not run the 5k and offer you a strong NSAID. This close to the race, an option is a cortisone injection. It will take a week or so to really wipe out the inflammation. However, since it is an injection, you need to want and ask for it as most docs assume you do not in the first visit.

Hang in there. We are almost at the race. You have more than enough miles to finish.

Maura's correct, you have more than enough miles under foot to finish. The issue is are your mentally ready. 20 miles seems daunting. I rarely run it in training as I get bored. I limit my long runs to 3 - 3.5 hours and call it good. Physically you are good to go but think about the mental side. Does running 7 unknown miles seem over whelming, or have you figured out enough mental games to get through those miles. While 7 miles seems like a long way from the couch, more than likely you have the tool set learned to get your current runs under foot to carry you through those miles. At Disney half of the 7 are in parks or along resorts so they are not really all that bad.

Hang in there.

Glad I am not the only one who is tired and achy and ready for January 14th......:rolleyes1

Between all the holiday stress, work stress and my plantar fasciitis being a PITA, I am having trouble getting runs done. I did my big 10/20 back to back runs, so I am okay that I have enough to get the Goofy done. But I know that I need to keep running between now and the race. I just don't wanna.:p

Life is a Highway is my official song of running through Cars Land in DL 1/2, so here's to hoping they dig the macarena back out. Was I the only person I could see in my corral at W&D who was totally doing the dance? Yes, and I loved every minute, I have no shame.

If it's any consolation....

The waivers are near! The waivers are near!

Not quite open for business but soon.

I have read elsewhere that bib numbers are often released several weeks in advance, and from your number, you can get a better idea as to what corral you were assigned to. So how is this info released? Emailed/snail mailed to you? Or do you have to go somewhere and look?

On runDisney's website the waivers will be posted, guessing tomorrow. On the waiver, your race number will be listed. Historically, corral placement has been a guess until the expo. However, in the Wine and Dine, Disney did post a table of bibs with corrals.

Added - You will receive an email from the Mouse about the same time the waivers are posted.

I think folks figured it out for the ToT race, too.

Lets hope they can remix a more upbeat version..

I agree - didn't like any of the 3 choices. :confused3 Oh well.

Some of the reactions on Facebook are pretty hilarious. "You're better than this, Disney!" "Is it too late to transfer?" (Hope that one was a joke.)

Love this response though:

Regardless of what song they play, I will be thankful I have my health to run, a spot to be able to participate, and I will be very thankful that I will be in such an amazing place surrounded by 25,000 other runners who will all share in the excitement of an amazing accomplishment.

Very well said. :thumbsup2

Woohoo!! :yay: I've already checked twice today...even though I know it's more likely that they will be posted tomorrow. :p
