I love Disney World. I am planning to rent a DVC place next fall for a potential "scouting trip" in WDW. However, I am up-in-the-air about where to stay. So my question is for people who love VGC what did you have the same love for in WDW?

VWL has the same style and atmosphere, I think the architect is the same. However if I were in you I would try something different.

If you like being at walking distance to the park, you should try BLT to be near the Magic Kingdom, or the Crescent lake resorts, BWV and BCV, thy are near Epcot and the Studios.

DL is great, the original but IMO you get more bang for your buck at WDW. I read somewhere that DL fits inside the parking lot for the MK at WDW.

Quite a bit size difference.

DL + DCA have nearly the same number of attractions than the sum of the 4 WDW parks.
DL is more compact, meaning less time traveling from a place to another. You can exit BTMRR, shop in DTD and jump on the ToT in 15 minutes.
WDW has wonderful resorts and many time the shopping and eating opportunities.
Shows are better in DL.
Some attractions are better in DL, others are better in WDW.
DL has Carsland. WDW has the new Fantasyland.

It's a different experience, I love both. And I love Disneyland Paris too. And sometime I'll go to Tokio DL too.
I know, Disney is my crack :rotfl2:

Exactly, and DL has some of their attractions built underground, like Pirates and Haunted Mansion, allowing the park are to put more attractions into a smaller area at ground level.

As zavandor noted, Wilderness Lodge had the same architect (who also designed Animal Kingdom Lodge). If you love heavy theming in your resort it's hard to go wrong with VWL or AKV.

But every DVC resort has its plusses and minuses, and really what works best for you is dependent on your priorities in a resort. Heavy theming? Proximity to specific parks? Views? Points per night? Restaurant amenities? Neat pool?

Enjoy the planning and trip! :)

Thank you all for your input. I really appreciate it.

It's not that I don't really like DL. It just feels like I can do everything in a shorter amount of time. We went to DL for Halloween and it was awesome. Besides RSR there were almost no lines on anything. But by the end of the 4 days i was thinking that was about the perfect amount of time. I spent 8 days in WDW and felt like I needed more time :goodvibes

I felt the same way when we were there. We got to see a lot and the lines were nice and short. You almost get spoiled. I'm not sure which resorts you may have narrowed down your choices to but as there is quite a bit to do in WDW, would you consider a resort like AKV? It is beautiful but different from VGC in that you have the savannah & can watch the animals. Just a thought to keep in mind.

One of the main reasons I like VGC so much is that it is so close to DCA/DL.
When I am at WDW, my faves are BCV, BWV and BLT. I like to be within walking distance to at least one park. :) BWV is great in that DH and I feel it is within easy walking distance to both DHS and EPCOT (although we don't care for the walk to DHS so much when it is hot out).

A little confused on the question....

Do you want resorts similar to VGC at WDW or are you comparing VGC as an option?

Here's why I ask. I see you are from Seattle, so maybe you go to DLR more often. I would buy there and use the points to stay at WDW every few years. We just tried getting into VGC at the 7 month mark and since it's so small, we had no luck.

However, if you want points specifically for WDW visits, then follow previous suggestions, starting with what is most important for you. Then buy where you want to stay.

That's probably because you spent 15-20% of your trip on buses, monorails, boats or walking from one destination to the next. One of the nice things about DL is there are no 20-30 minute walks or 45-60 minute bus rides from any resort to a park.

DL doesn't have anything to compare to Epcot's World Showcase or the safari at Animal Kingdom. But on an attraction-for-attraction basis, there's nearly as much to do at DL as WDW.

At WDW you need two days to visit Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. But California Adventure has just as many attractions as those two combined, and can be experienced in a single day when slow.
