December 7th What's New What's Next Press Event

WDW will be holding a press event on December 7th to announce what's new and what's next. Previous press events like this have been pretty uneventful with announcements of stuff we've aready heard with additional details we may not have heard. That's not to say something totally new will be announced. I'm just not expecting it.

Something big may or may not be announced on 12/7/12 but when Iger announces Disney had a "phenomenal third quarter, delivering the largest quarterly earnings in the history of our company" (as he did in August) and in the very next paragraph says:

Before Jay gets into the specifics about our quarter, Id like to spend a few minutes talking about the status of our capital spending in our parks and resorts as well as some of the acquisitions weve made in the last few years especially Marvel. These things are relevant to our Q3 results and will factor into our future performance as well. As you know, weve made significant investments in our parks and resorts over the past several years to create an even greater Disney experience for our guests and to drive long-term growth.
These include completely transforming Disney California Adventure, expanding Disneys fleet of cruise ships, and enhancing and increasing the size of Fantasyland at Walt Disney World.

I continue to believe Disney management believes capital spending in the parks pays off in the long run.

It may not be a fifth gate, or even Carsland at DHS, but starting an investor earnings call by recounting capex astounded me. Of course, Iger could have been paving the road for the Star Wars acquisition.

So, it seems Carsland is coming to DHS. Could be announced at this press event which is now called "Around the World".

Tom Staggs is on stage right now touting Cars Land in DCA during this presentation. Fingers crossed he'll announce it's coming east.

No announcement about Cars Land east. There was some discussion about Avatarland, but no details.

Karl Shultz is on stage now talking about DCL, Aulani, ABD etc.

Meg Crofton is on stage getting ready to discuss 'Limited Time Magic' for next year.

Sweet.....The Dapper Dans are on stage! They are singing various songls like 'Let me Call you Sweetheart' to promote Valentine's Week.

Talk about crowd pleasers!

That's it....The press and media are off next door to try out the new Splitsville bowling lanes.

That was it. They discussed a hidden Mickey that will be visible in the new Fantasyland. They will also be placing some new, historic artwork inside the American Adventure. They showed Imagineers along with James Cameron around a model of the new Avatarland, but Staggs said it was too early to give details. Nothing brand new....Just rehashed what is being done and what was done.

When will we learn? I've been reading the speculation on this thing for weeks. I know we love to speculate, but that can't even really be called a press release. They announced a hidden Mickey? Really? That'll teach us.
