I'm pretty cynical so I don't. I may post on a thread and wish someone well, but if it comes out they were lying I don't really care. I kind of expect it.
Its definitely different when you've been on a board for awhile and you do "get to know" the other posters, so you can tell who is genuine. If its a newbie, and they have an incredible sob story I guess I'm always a bit suspicious.
Anyway just a thought, I have no idea what thread you guys are talking about.

So sad someone would make something up like that. You all gave loads of support (the thread had over 1000 replies, right?) It's just weird how detailed all her accounts were, and how realistic it all seemed. I wonder how they worked out it was a fake. Would be nice if we could know why.

I assumed people weren't lying because I don't understand why lying to people you have never met (or will probably never meet) would be satisfying or rewarding. It's much more satisfying to lie to people you know well...preferably family!

The "7 months...." thread I'm assuming? I never trust any sob story threads if it's a new poster or someone saying "I post her frequently so I'm posting my sob story under a fake username...".

As for Christmas, I'm all set except for my oldest DD, my wife and food for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day breakfast.

As far as Christmas, I'm father along than I expected to be at this point. INside the ouse all decorated, trees up (regular one and Disney one), about 1/2 the shopping done (although I don't have a lot anymore and it's mostly gift cards & money at this point, with a cute little something so the recipient has something to open). Outdoor lights & 2 blow up Mickeys will go out this weekend.

I think there are some people who just need attention, and they go to some strange lengths to get it.

I gather it's the "I'm 7 months pregnant and..." thread. I also thought it was off from the beginning and never posted on it.

I have recently thought about making another user name, though, to tell my sob story. But I don't...I sometimes type up some stuff (like on some recent threads about 2012 grade and Not being ready for Christmas) and then delete it...it helps to just type it up and get it out.

So, NO, I am NOT ready for Xmas and am not sure how I'm going to get there.

Given that the OP said she moved countries, my guess (and it is only a guess) is that the IP didn't also move countries.

Like some others, something about that thread did seem a bit "off" from the beginning. And, no, I don't understand what people get from that sort of thing.

Today is our company's holiday lunch - always good food and some good prizes (which I've never won - but maybe this will be my year?). Cookie making weekend with my aunt, sister-in-law, and nephew - he's three, so there is always a lot of fun (and a lot of mess).

I admit I'd wondered about that thread from the very beginning - just smelled off. Too many pat cliche details or something.

I was thinking that myself, however, on the other hand -- if I were to post some things in my life that are 100% true -- I'm pretty sure I would be considered a fake (there was a year in there that I was thrilled I had already quit work or they were going to start questioning all my requests off for a death in the family!!! I felt like Klinger from MASH! We literally had 3 that qualified for needed a couple days off to attend the wake/funerals -- my maternal grandmother, my paternal grandmother & then my MIL all within a couple months of each other. They DID question my brother when he told them his Grandmother died -- they were like "wait your Grandmother just died a couple months ago?" -- Yes...this is my OTHER Grandmother. My MIL's was the weird one that if I weren't living it not sure I would believe it but it did make front page news but I tried to keep that one more quiet anyway so wouldn't have posted all the details at that time.)

Not that I know of.

Anyway -- as for Christmas shopping -- I only have 1 thing and since my DD just joined the DIS hoping to do the College Program I can't say much for presents. I have some ideas on what I want to get people but just haven't done it, nor am I sure when I'm going to do it. It will get done eventually one way or another.

Sounds like someone here got caught being a faker after much concern and support from the board. I find this very disappointing. Yes, I know this happens on the internet, it's still disappointing to me that anyone would think to do this. Oh well.

On a different note, how is everyone doing with their present shopping and holiday preparations? I've barely started and need to get a quick jumpstart.

Unfortunately, it happens. I won't waste my time trying to figure out why someone would do something like that. It's not worth my energy. Karma will catch up to them at some point.

Anyway, I am another one who just barely started shopping. I know exactly what I need to buy. I just have to get my little self to the store and get it done.

I posted once but wasn't emotionally invested in her story. I did believe her story right up UNTIL she posted about her new arrival. She wrote his weight and height and then said something along the lines of... "I don't know what else to say about him," and I knew then, FAKE.

Yes, early in the thread, some had some suspicion but chalked the lack of updates to the OP being busy getting her life in order.
