Sheraton Park Resort Credit

Well after attempting and failing to rent points for GVC and being told there would be no senior discount for 2013, it looks like we will be at Sheraton Park. It is my understanding that there is a $25 per room per day resort credit. We will have two rooms, so we will have $50 per day. If you have stayed recently, do they have reasonable breakfast options. I see that Molly's Kitchen seems to be a little pricey, but they also have Cafasia which appears to be a grab and go. What was your experience dining at this hotel and/or using the resort credit. We are going to purchase the ART pass for transportation. I am mainly bummed about not having EMH's, but at least we will have one MM at DL. We will arrive in LA early on a Saturday morning (2nd week of June) and spend the afternoon sightseeing in Hollywood. We will spend the night near Universal Studios, and do that park on Sunday. We will check in Sheraton Park Sunday evening and leave the following Sunday. We are planning to do 5 park days at DL with a pool day in between. The pool looks pretty nice.

I've stayed twice at the Sheraton Park and had resort credit both time - two rooms so 25x2/per night. The breakfast place is quite pricey imo, and I think we only ate there twice. With that said I found the portions to be HUGE and you could probably share plates depending on your groups ages and appetites. My mom ( in her 70s ) must have her breakfast and used the small onsite cafe quite often for simple breakfast items like cereal, toast, bagels etc. However your gift cards are NOT valid at the cafe.

We stayed in late Sept/Oct most recently and it was very very hot and we spent a couple of hours by the pool each day. It's a nice pool area with a hot tub, a bar and you can order from a limited menu. The pool bar and all menu items ARE covered on the gift cards. Room service is also covered.

We were down for a week and with the two rooms we had a total of $400.00 in room credits and by the end of the week we had money left to blow... this included splurging on sundaes and banana splits being delivered to the room late one night lol

The Overland Grill is a decent enough restaurant, very large and a big menu. The portions are also huge. Some items seem pricey, others are quite reasonable. The fajitas are easily enough to share. Again, this is covered on your gift cards.

The ART stops right out front, we found that it arrived approx on the hour but definitely do not set your watch by the ART. If anything I would walk there and take the ART back after a long day. The walk is approx. 15minutes imo. You pass by a couple of convenience stores if you want to get drinks on your way to the Park.

The fridge in the room is not large but you can chill a few bottles of water in there. We ordered Vons and had no problem with the delivery. I notified the front desk that we were expecting a delivery and then went and chilled by the pool until they came to get me. We ordered a flat of water and some gatorade amongst other things and it was nice to have easy access to water. You do get two free bottles of water per room per day however, and the coffee is Starbucks and not bad. We asked for, and received adjoining rooms both times we stay. We also ask for a higher floor facing the park and you can see the fireworks from the room. We pretty much faced the back of Carsland and Tower of Terror each time we stayed. This overlooks the parking lot but it was pretty quite imo. A small balcony has a table and two chairs.

sorry for the huge size pics, these were from May 2011 before Carsland opened.

Thanks for the pics! We usually stay on property at WDW, but of course you can be "on property" there and still be 10 miles from the different parks. I had mutiny on my hands with the hubby and kids until I explained that we could see the Tower of Terror and fireworks from our room. So, even though this one is not as close as some we will still feel more like we are on property. And this hotel looks really nice! I am booking through Disney since I was able to do the HEB gift card deal to save money. Once I book, I will call and ask for upper level rooms with a view of the parks! I hope making the request by phone will work. Since we will be at Universal Studios the day we check in, I know we won't check in until 5 or so. Hope we can still get an awesome view!

I LOVE the Sheraton Park, I've stayed there twice in the past year, it's a great medium hotel between the pricey Disney hotels & cheap Harbor options. The room credit is great, on my last trip my friend and I ate at the cafe every morning for breakfast, always fast service & the individual items (fruit, bagel etc) were a good value. Our two (large) breakfasts were covered every morning & then some, we had to splurge on the last day too!

My best tip however is to walk across the street to the Toy Story parking lot & hop on their buses. It's totally allowed (I felt weird at first but no one minds!), 100% free, frequent, and convenient for those days you don't want to do the trek to the front gates. Swing a right out the front doors, cross the street at the lights and walk in the entrance. Easy, and so nice after a long day at the parks!

It's a gorgeous hotel, I hope you enjoy! :-D

I've never stayed and received the credits so I can't comment on those or how to use them but I can say that the grab and go area is great for breakfasts. It has both and interior and an exterior entrance and is on the corner closest to the parks so I usually walked in bought breakfast (muffin and a juice) and walked out the exterior door and on to the parks. I never used ART but I've only been on trips solo or with my sister so we don't mind the walk. I have also done the reverse of this. Coming in from the parks gone through the store to pick up a snack and breakfast for the next day and headed straight up to my room. I've always stayed with a park view and while I've never seen the fireworks from the room I hear the view is decent.

I love this hotel and hope you have a great stay!

We've stayed at the Sheraton Park several times and enjoyed our time there. Be aware that the hotel has changed its policy about park view rooms. You can request a high floor, no problem. But if you request a park view room, they will charge you $30 a night. If you are lucky, a nice staff member may give you the upgrade for free, but that is rare. We've never used ART from this hotel -- we just walk. It's not far, about 10 - 15 minutes depending on the lights (the signal at Katella and Harbor is a long one).

So these look like they are the places who serve breakfast:

CAFASIA
A full service snack shop offering a variety of grab and go snack from breakfast sandwiches, pizza, soda, beer, wine, stacked sandwiches, along with fresh baked good and convenience items.
Cuisine: Snacks
Hours: 6:45 AM - 10:45 PM

MOLLY'S KITCHEN
Good Eats served daily for breakfast and lunch. Known for our wide variety of omelets, fresh turkey sandwiches, old-fashioned milk shakes and malts.
Cuisine: American
Hours: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM

From what I am hearing, you can use the hotel credits at Molly's but not at the other cheaper place?

We stayed at the Sheraton Park Hotel in September and I thought it fit our needs perfectly. We are going back again in May.

The staff were great and the food was decent. We stayed at the club level on points so we got the free breakfest but no resort credit. We walked with a 3 year old and almost 2 year old every day, there and back and had no problems. It took about 10 minutes each way.

The only issue I had with the place was that the walls were thin. We usually passed out after returning each night, but I felt sorry for the people next dorr when my kids woke up at 5:30 each morning.

I would suggest you get to know the staff quickly if you are going to be there for a week. The staff were great for us and made the trip quite enjoyable for my DD.

That's correct, the grab and go place doesn't take credits. So it all depends on your family's eating and touring style whether you sit down for breakfast or not. But they do serve Starbucks! :P

and being told there would be no senior discount for 2013

Wait, wait! They're doing away with senior discounts at the DLR hotels? Forever? When did this happen? Is it official?

I will wait and see unless you "Bob" have it from Disney. Then I will accept it sadly.

I called twice and was told that no senior discount was being offered for 2013. Of course we know that means no unless we change our mind. I am used to getting some deep discounts at WDW or renting DVC so this has been an interesting process. My husband has told me to quit belly aching about "having" to stay at Sheraton Park.

But my plan was sooooo good! My sister, brother in law, and mom are coming. I was going to do GVC but tell everyone except hubby that we were staying at Sheraton. Then we would just pull up the little rented minivan to Grand Californian, and holler surprise! And everyone would hoot and holler and cry. It would just have been Disney magic! So of course there was no availability at the 7 month mark - owner's home resort is Old Key West. So then I found out about senior discount, and my mom is coming. So again we were all going to cry as we pulled up to PPH.

Well so far, I'm the only one crying!;)

At least I tried! I won't give up - if they offer it I will cancel and rebook! Or maybe I'll get a pin or something. I really want the crying and pixie dust!

For what it's worth, the second CM that I talked to told me they had a big meeting about it. So, I visualized Mickey standing at a podium and shaking his finger, "No 2013 senior discount!" and Mater and Lightening McQueen laughing diabolically in the background.

I guess they have plenty willing to pay full price, but it would be sweet to get that discount!

I also read on another DIS thread that in addition to the no senior discount for 2013, there will be no military discount either. Bah humbug!!

But anyway, OP, I have another possibility for you. Have you looked into the Anaheim Marriott? It is near the convention center. They have a Disney package that includes a $100 Disney gc each night. Now, the catch is that the rooms in that promotion are almost double the usual rate, running at about $239/night, but it does include free parking and shuttle to DL. I happen to have points for Marriott hotels so it's a great deal for me.

Just thought I'd mention this.

Wow! Things are changing, and not in a good way.
GREEDY!! They are becoming GREEDY! and I have been going there my whole life.
Sad

Can I book this as a good neighbor hotel with disney. I did the HEB deal so I have $4500 in Disney gift cards - I saved $750 so I only paid $3750! I was going to do Sheraton Park through disney. It doesn't come with the free meal like Costco but I figured the $750 savings was better!

Oh, wow! What's the HEB deal? Sounds like you have plenty of Disney GCs, LOL.

I doubt you could do the Marriott package through Disney, and you already have plenty of GCs so you're probably better off with what you have.

Of course, you COULD use the gc's for a Disney hotel!

HEB is a grocery store that occasionally offers a $300 gift card for $250! It ended this Tuesday, but last Friday I took the money for hotel and park tickets and went to buy 15 gift cards! It was a 16.777% discount so I thought that combined with the senior discount would have been awesome! I just can't justify paying more than a $100 per night more for each room. I was going to pay around $209 per night for GVC, and the senior discount would have made PPH reasonable. Oh well, we are still going. Sheraton Park will be nice and if they do come out with a discount, I will switch switch switch.
