IPAD with 16GB ?'s please advise

So on black friday I bought an IPAD retina display 16 GB. The price was right and now I am seconding guessing the purchase. I got it as a present for my two daughters to share. I expected them to use it for internet and to add some Apps on it? They may watch a movie but I don't expect them to store many movies on it.

A 32 GB is 180 dollars more and really more than I want to spend but 6 months from now I don't want to feel I wasted money either.

So if you have a 16GB, how is it for you? Did you fill it up quickly? Should I return it and just wait until I can afford one with larger memory?

I should state that each girl has their own IPOD for their music. One has a 32 and one has a 16 (we got this one for free).

I have a 16gb and it's fine for me BUT I don't store music or movies on it. I use spotify and netflix apps and that saves a lot of space.

I think as long as you aren't planning on storing several full length movies on there you'll be okay. And remember you can keep movies in iTunes and then download or remove from your iPad as much as you wish. :)

I think you will be fine. I've had my 16 for over a year and have tons of room still. Movies are what will take up a lot of space, if you can stream movies instead of downloading you will be fine

We're good with then16 too. I don't store music or movies on mine, though. We have lots of various apps since there are 4 of us sharing it....

I bought my son the 32g, and honestly wish I would have done the 16 and saved the $$. He has downloaded a ton, and I downloaded his therapy apps, a total of maybe 25 apps, and he has over 100 pics and last I checked we still had over 20g left!!

I recently struggled with this decision, and I ended up going with the 32GB for my DH. When talking to a salesperson at my local Apple store, he advised that if my DH will be downloading a lot of movies that I should go with the 32GB. He also mentioned that some of the apps being developed now are taking more storage space. I felt safer going with the 32GB. I didn't want to have regrets in the months to come, so the extra $100 was worth it to me.

Well, iPad apps are larger than iPhone apps, so there goes space right there. Also, approx. 2 GB are taken for the software, so you're left with 14 GB.

Coming from the perspective of a 32 GB iPod touch 4g owner...

Get the 32 GB. I've filled mine up in a year (last December), but almost half is photos and camera videos (14 GB). I'm sure mine would last practically forever without that, so I think the better investment would be the 32 GB. That is, unless you can sync things on quickly (I can't.)

HTH!

This is correct. Just move the movies on and off. They can stay on iTunes forever.

I have the 16 G and I am just fine. I must have 50 apps, music and a to. Of photos. I do not store movies and every once in a while I delete any apps I have not used in a while. I think you will be fine.

16 gigs in of itself is a huge amount of space for standard resolution media. But saving "HD" resolution media wont get you far.

As long as you don't plan to store movies, photos or music on it you won't have an issue with the 16gb. If you want to be able to store those things on it, definitely upgrade.

I have a 32 gb retina ipad and have 25 gb on it. 11gb of videos and 9 gb of music. You also get 5 gb of iCloud storage which I have not used. As you can see most of my space is taken up by music and videos. I really don't need to have them on my ipad but since I have the space I use it. 16 gb should be fine. I also have lots of apps and my whole Kindle library on my ipad.
S you can see its the videos that eat up the space.

I debated this and ended up buying my DD a Galaxy Tab 2 10" tablet. It has an SD card slot for up to 32GB. It is currently running about $299.

I should note that we are not really an apple invested family. The girls have old iPods and i have an iTouch that i keep in my car glove box hooked up to my car stereo solely to listen to books on tape during my commute. We have no/little $$ invested in iTunes apps, etc. So it wasn't hard to go with an Android tablet. We all have Galaxy S3 phones.

Sorry to jump in on your thread, but have ya'll used the Galaxy tablet yet? I bought 2 for my daughters for Christmas and just curious. We have a good bit invested in Android and Apple as we have an iPad and Toshiba Thrive, iPod touches, and a Galaxy phone....so I'm good with the Android system, but still just curious. And I bought the 7" and just as a heads up if you haven't used it, my understanding is that the SD card can only be used for data - like movies and music, not apps...just wanted to check.

It is wrapped and under the tree, so we haven't used it yet.

I read a lot of reviews and comparisons to iPad and they have all been favorable.

I was thinking the SD card would be used just for movies, etc. I figure she can put apps on the actual tablet.

For us, that would not be enough.

We got the 32gb and honestly, I wish I had gotten the 64gb!

The 32gb works for us, but it is close to full and we have had to delete things from it.

Really. I contemplated getting the 64 gb and was told that would be overkill. As I stated in my earlier post I have 25 videos and 837 songs ,numerous apps and all my kindle books on my Ipad and still have not filled it or had to delete anything. I have the newest ipad with 32 gb and 4g. I got the 4g just in case but haven't used it yet.
I also have not used any of my iCloud storage space yet. I didn't really want an Ipad as I was quite content with my android phone,IPod,Kindle Fire and my MacBook Pro but dh was so impressed by the new retina display he insisted on getting me this ipad 3. Now it is my favorite device and I take it with me everywhere. I also love the leather smart covers which I pair with the Keydex back covers. I also have the 3 yr AppleCare warranty with 2 screen replacements so no worries until aug 2015.

What kind of videos?

I have movies. They take up room. I also have a lot of photos, over 1,000. I download all my Kindle books to it, have about the same number of songs you do and probably over 50 apps on it.

My issue too is that my kids like to get those HUGE app games.....they take up ROOM!

My youngest son had taken over my 8gb ipod touch and had barely anything on it and it was full. He kept having to delete stuff. I just sold it this week and ordered a 64gb ipod touch for him. He will hopefully never have to delete anything again!
